Well, to answer my own question, I just saw the most recent list of 5-0 decklists that wizards puts out, and KCI combo had 1 Spine of Ish Sah maindeck (along with 1 spellbomb) as wincons. Cool.

I dunno man. I just played a guy on MTGO and he absolutely lost his sh*t because I played Ish, claiming Ish was bad and I needed to cut it. Guy said it didn't win me the game so why play it? I mean, I blew up his board but I guess he's right: how could it possibly win me the game? Grin

There are a few good Queen Marchesa builds out there, as well as O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami, that are designed to do just that - punish anyone who hits you while not being overly aggressive until the end.

I might look into this, actually. Thank you!

If you don't mind, I'd like to understand how you "become the biggest threat on the field first". I, too, play with the same players most often rather than random pods. There's a lot of psychology and reputation at work in such environments. First, the basics:

What kind of decks do you play?

What percentage of games do you win?

I have an Eldrazi deck with Kozilek as my commander. I can usually ramp to about 12 mana by turn 4 and start casting my big stuff. Obviously everyone else is like, uh, we have to kill him or we are all dead. I also have a Boros Avacyn (flip) deck that blinks a lot of stuff and basically deals a lot of damage to all opponents. Basically flashing her in at the beginning on my opponent's end step and during main equipping her with something that pumps doesn't spell well for me.

I am one of the more knowledgeable players at the table (regarding rules), so sometimes that can bite me. I am definitely not the loudest or most boisterous. In fact, I'm probably the most quiet at the table.

So I play EDH with 3 other friends on a regular basis. What I'm finding is I usually go out first because I seem to become the biggest threat on the field first. I'm looking to assemble an EDH deck that basically let's me stay alive long enough to actually enjoy playing EDH.

I've narrowed down what I think I need in an EDH deck and need advice or someone to point me to a decklist:

    1) Lifegain
    2) Token generation (for chump-blocking)
    3) Something that makes my permanents indestructible
    4) Something that gives all my creatures death touch
    5) Primarily flying creatures (or reach)

Basically I'm looking for a deck that doesn't make me look like the biggest threat at the table (where I get ganged-up on) while at the same time gaining me life and making people think that they don't want to swing at me or mess with me. lol

    Advice appreciated!

That's actually pretty awesome. I guess I was overthinking the card. Literally just figure out how to do 7 damage to them and win.

    Thank you!

I've done some searching and I cannot find any solid decks trying to run this card. I remember when it came out everyone said this card would be amazing once pain lands rotated. Well, pain lands rotated and crickets.

Anyone running Triskaidekaphobia and don't mind sharing a deck list?

    Cheers!

  • posted a message on Eerie Interlude & Bruna/Gisela Interaction
Was playing commander last night with three friends and I had a Gisela, the Broken Blade on the battlefield. During my upkeep, an opponent tried to cast Utter End, so I responded by casting Eerie Interlude. During my main phase, I cast Bruna, the Fading Light.

At the beginning of the end step, I returned Gisela to the battlefield first from the delayed triggered from Eerie Interlude, then I resolved the trigger from Gisela and then proceeded to meld the two into Brisela, Voice of Nightmares.

I believe I played this correctly because of APNAP ordering on the stack. Two of my fiends insisted I was incorrect, that when Gisela returned to the battlefield it has already past the beginning of the end step. Basically their reason was that Gisela had to be present on the battlefield BEFORE the beginning of the end step; Gisela should have had to be present on the battlefield at the end of the post combat main phase.

I tried explaining APNAP ordering but they kept insisting that I had missed the beginning of the end step and the Gisela trigger would not happen. Thoughts?

  • posted a message on Standard Naya (?) Goldnight Choking Challenge
    Hi there!

I have this "great" idea of using the following cards in combo with each other:

    Dubious Challenge
    Goldnight Castigator
    &
    Choking Restraints

The idea behind the deck was to combo off of Dubious and get some Goldnights into play. From there, if my opponent chose it, I would combo with casting Choking Restraints to lock it down on my opponent's side, and then burn my opponent to the face with spells.

So far the idea is very sketchy. The deck is very inconsistent. Here is what I have so far as my maindeck:

    4 Goldnight Castigator
    4 Fiery Temper
    3 Skywhaler's Shot
    4 Dubious Challenge
    3 Burn from Within
    3 Collective Defiance
    2 Declaration in Stone
    4 Choking Restraints
    2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
    2 Dynavolt Tower

I haven't really worked out my lands but I've been running 3 Inspiring Vantage, 4 Fortified Village, and 1 Cinder Glade

Just need some help to move this deck in the right direction to be more consistent. The biggest problem I have is not drawing my key cards....ever. Thoughts?

Yes the Sidisi tokem will die but he still can sacrifice another creature for the exploit and tutor
This is incorrect. If he chooses to keep the original Sidisi and put the token in the graveyard because of the legend rule, sacrificing a creature to the token's exploit trigger does not allow him to tutor, because the token isn't there anymore and so its tutor trigger, which is a separate ability, doesn't exist. Exploit creatures all have two separate abilities, Exploit itself which only makes you sacrifice a creature, and another ability that triggers when you sacrifice a creature to that creature's Exploit trigger. The creature needs to still be on the battlefield as you sacrifice to its Exploit trigger for the second ability to trigger.

So would the exploit triggered ability from the Sidisi token hit the stack and resolve before state based actions are checked and he has to choose which copy to keep? Or would the legend rule make him put one in his graveyard before any abilities hit the stack?

Can you please explain how that works on the stack please?

My friend has in play Sidisi, Undead Vizier with Mirror Mockery attached to it. When he attacks, he chooses to make a copy of Sidisi.

He is saying he will still get to use the Sidisi token's exploit trigger even though state-based actions will make him choose one to keep (because legendary rule).

    Is this correct?

I was under the impression that as soon as the token is generated, state-based actions are checked and he must choose which Sidisi to keep BEFORE any triggered abilities hit the stack.

Basically my argument to him was that making a token of Sidisi is pointless because the token will die due to state based actions.

Just need some clarification. Thanks! Smile

  • posted a message on My friend loves counter decks...
    Tonight was the final straw.

I've played with this friend...we shall call him Bob...and ever since I started playing Magic, Bob has always loved to play counter decks. Not even just decks with a playset of counters. He wants to pack every card know to Standard that can counter, cause hate/frustration, or basically stop his opponent from playing the game to the extreme.

The current deck he runs consists of U/W and playsets of Myth Realized, Essense Flux, Reflector Mage, Mirror Mockery, Spell Queller, Ojutai's Exemplars, Clash of Wills, and Ojutai's Command just to name a few.

His strategy consists of countering everything you play to pump his Myth Realized. Any creatures that land get bounced. Mirror Mockery makes more Reflector Mages and such. His deck is such a pain in the butt that no one besides me wants to keep playing against him.

Tonight was the last straw. I'm so tired of playing (or not playing!) against counter decks that I was curious what decks out there smash counter decks? If I have to build a pure counter deck to beat a counter deck, what would you recommend?

    Thanks!
