I would like to make a request.
It's been a month, and it's been over a week since the time when NPCs could be signed up for the tournament.
Could the WPLs please begin signing up NPCs? I really don't want to have to wait two more months before this tournament starts.
Interesting idea, but I'm not sure about the flavor. Don't forget, Giant Flytrap will lose its own ability after one swallow--is that what you wanted?
Also, as a flytrap, it needs reach....
I see two types of execution here: the one-shot one and the cumulative one.
Giant Flytrap v13GG
Creature--Plant Mutant
Defender, reach
When Giant Flytrap v1 blocks a creature with converted mana cost 5 or less, exile that creature. If you do, Giant Flytrap becomes a copy of that creature and gains defender.

Giant Flytrap v23GG
Creature--Plant Mutant
Defender, reach
Imprint--When Giant Flytrap v1 blocks a creature with converted mana cost 5 or less, exile that creature.
Giant Flytrap has all creature types, colors, and abilities of creature cards exiled this way.
Giant Flytrap gets +X/+Y, where X is the total power of all creature cards and Y is the total toughness of creature cards exiled this way.

Bummer
By the way, I just realized--did you know about the three-spells-per-turn limit? Just wanted to check; you mentioned x4 Unholy Strength, and that's forbidden in this game.
Niadar considers. "I think you could certainly try," he said. "The worst that could happen is that you lose the first round, after all, and if you do it won't take much of your time. You'll have problems with red mages with your spell set, but you should be able to handle most others--I assume you know a spell to kill creatures?"
"If there was other work available, I'd say try that instead. But this tournament is what's open now, and the worst you could do is waste a bit of your time."
This is pretty much true. You should post in the Welcome/Discussion thread asking for a quest, because it looks like they're trying to make new ones, and a quest would be good for you right now. But until they make one, you might as well sign on for the tournament.
"I can understand your feelings. He is the one who made me crave power, power to avenge, to fight, to...end."
"Perhaps, one day, when you decide to go after her, we could go after her together. If you would deem me strong then, that is.
Perhaps, after this fight, which I do see, that, with my calculations, you had won from the beginning, we might venture something, after your tournament that is."
"JUDGE! I do hereby concede this match to the red...to Niadar." Forgotin says, catching himself.
Perhaps, if I am stronger, and learn more Magicks, I may be able to compete with him again Forgotin thinks to himself, and voices the same to Niadar.
"Perhaps, Niadar, when I am stronger of mind and of body, and most importantly, stronger in my Magicks, we may battle again?"
Forgotin waves his hands, sending his rats back to their home in the AEther. While his sphere fades, and his area of fetid land changes back to the warm earth it was before, and his ghouls fall back into the ground where they came from, Forgotin exits his circle, walks towards Niadar, and extends his arm in friendship.
Niadar shakes hands with Forgotin. "I look forward to it. And I hope to have you as an ally against Radiant."
"As for afterwards--I've been looking on notice boards in town, and I haven't found any other work available. Perhaps you could join the tournament too, at the beginner level?" Niadar grins briefly. "I can even recommend a spell you can use against other red mages..."
The spell's Extirpate, of course. You should have enough for a 1-cast, i think, and it's amazingly useful for black mages.
Also, to any WPLs reading this thread--what's with the massive lack of open quests? The Shadowmoor quest is the only open one, and I'm not high-level enough for it...and neither are most of the other people who need quests right now.
If you want, we can continue bantering for a bit longer; I don't have anything else to do until the tournament. But by my calculations, you're at 5--a Shock and an Incinerate will finish the game.
I'll cast them as soon as you're ready to wind up the discussion. That'll be my turn.
Niadar considers. "I'm glad your target is power. I can respect that; I'm working on the same thing myself--at least partly because of Radiant."
"Radiant was the leader of the white guild in this city. However, for reasons I don't fully know, she abandoned it and turned to Yawgmoth's side, betraying and murdering several of her comrades in the process. A fellow mage and I were sent to try to bring her back to Estark, dead or alive."
"We failed. She is far more powerful than we'd thought, and she had equally powerful allies. We managed to kill many of her minions, but we would have died if we hadn't managed to escape."
Niadar's flames flare darkly for a moment. "Someday, I will have enough power that i can face her in a real battle--I'm seeking that power with every decision I make, now. And when I do, I plan to rip her apart and incinerate her corpse." Forgotin can almost feel the waves of hatred coming from Niadar.
the quest can be found here. Our battle with Radiant starts on page 7.
"You still don't get it." Niadar shook his head.
"Yawgmoth is Estark's greatest enemy. Anyone in this city who finds out that you're planning to be one of his minions will try to kill you. House Shimia will close its doors to you. At the minimum, no one will trust you or want to quest with you."
I don't actually know if any of that is true, but Niadar thinks it is.
"You should either rethink your ambition or--" Niadar paused, struggling with his next words--"keep it a secret. I won't spread it around, because I hope you'll rethink this foolishness. But others will not be so hopeful."
"This duel is about to end, though." Niadar pushes with both hands, and the flames in his arms jet out of them in a helix, blasting into Forgotin. "Did you have any questions?" he shouted over the crackle of the flames. "I do like helping new mages, even if they're on the wrong path..."
At end of turn, Niadar casts 2x Incinerate, targeting Forgotin. That should take him into burn range for next turn, but I'll wait. I do, actually, like helping new people...
"That's odd. I had to learn to use each of these spells I cast, practicing with lore and combat until I could connect with my mountains and channel their energy. I guess different mages work different ways."
"You do know that if you join Yawgmoth, you'll become an enemy of this city and the House you want to enter, right?"
You can finish your turn. My actions happen at the end step.
"Well, if you look at it that way, I can see why you'd want to serve Yawgmoth." Niadar ponders that for a moment, shrugging as more memories are pulled from him.
"But to me, my magic is something I use. Sure, I may defeat you now with my fire magic, but that's a personal triumph. Fire magic alone is uncontrolled and could never have done the deed. To me, magic is a tool, and I am its wielder. I joined my House because I wanted a place to stay, not because, as a red mage, I felt it necessary."
"What of you? Did you develop your black magic skills because you wanted black magic, or because you felt that black magic was part of you already?"
Niadar crosses his arms, waiting for an answer. The ground beneath him rumbles as more reddish rock begins to surface...
I hope the verbal battle doesn't bother you. I'm having as much fun with that as with the arena fight
If it annoys you, though, I'll stop.
Niadar shook his head. "You don't get it."
"The magic we use is a means, not an end. Just because I use fire magic doesn't make me a slave to chaos. In fact, since I control the magic, you could say it makes chaos my slave. As long as I control the magic, I can control the direction of it--like this." He grabs two balls of sparking energy out of the air and throws them at Forgotin. "That was destructive...but was it chaotic?"
He concentrated, frowning. "And now for your creatures...." A wave of fire burst from his hands, immolating the rat and the shade.
Played 2x Shock, targeting you, during the end step.
Since your turn's over, I'll take my next one. If I skipped an action you wanted to take, I'll edit this.
----Turn 3----
Played 1x Mountain.
Played 1x Pyroclasm
End turn.
I'm trying to dig up the backstory about Radiant. I'll post a link if I find it. Basically, she had led the white guild, but she turned traitor and serves Yawgmoth now.
Proceed with your turn; my actions can wait until it ends.
Niadar's face darkens. "I'm a mage of fire, not chaos. If you wish to serve him, you and I will probably become enemies and may fight more seriously in the future."
Niadar's jaw tightens. "This one wouldn't be a friend. He was a minion of Radiant and Yawgmoth, and he was as evil as they come. I respect dark powers, but not twisted minds, and he had both."
His flames flicker briefly as the rat grabs at his mind, but he shrugs off the mental attack. "You'll have to do better than that..." The ground shudders as more earth bulges upward.
"Oh, a black mage?" Niadar tosses back the hood of his cloak, looking carefully at the rotten material. "I've fought black magic before--should make this interesting."
He pulls his own mana sources towards him, and a small mound of rock shoves its way out of the dirt of the Arena.

OOC: Can you manage posting once a day? If you can't it's okay, but it's kind of the standard and it'd keep this battle moving.
"I'm...Niadar. I thought we did that already."
He nods to his opponent. "You may have the first move."
Also, I can only generally post mornings and evenings--is that a problem?
