Since I'm going to GenCon this year, I'm trying to decide which cards I'd want them to sign or alter in some way. I'd buy a card for them if I don't have it already, but I don't want to buy a card that's more than 5 dollars since I'm already spending a lot on this trip. Any ideas?
I completely agree with GRRM on this topic. The Sad Puppies think that one thing is happening but looking at the nominated and the winners of the Hugos in the time they are complaining about, the political views and social views are varied and different and I don't see any indication of there being some sort of voting based on similar ideology going on.
People vote for who they like the best. It makes for a popularity contest, but that's the same with every awards system. It's the same with the Oscars even. The Academy votes for who they like best. The Puppies I think, don't really have a leg to stand on. And now they're sort of conspiring to vote and nominate together to give awards to the authors they like best, which while not against any rules, is really just in bad taste.
I'm just going to leave this here and then back away because I'm probably one of those tumblr SJWs that people love to hate (at least I have a tumblr and I do talk about things that effect me like sexism and homophobia).
Let's not generalize "tumblr" when it comes to this. Tumblr is a vast and varied place. There are some kids, some older people, a lot of porn, a lot of fandom stuff and gifs, and actually a pretty big neo nazi community. And a lot of the stuff you'd see sometimes is actually anti feminist troll blogs. So there's a lot of different opinions.
Hey MTG Salvation! I've been using your forums for a while now for deck ideas and such, yet I haven't actually made an account yet. I'm Shelley and I've been playing Magic since mid-2010 (Magic 2011). I actually had no idea what magic was until then since I mostly played Dungeons and Dragons and other table top games but my boyfriend at the time was really into it and got me into it as well. I took a break after Innistrad to focus on college and school and all that other important school/life stuff but recently came back around Fate Reforged/Dragons.
I mostly play limited formats and casual with friends. Although we aren't exactly casual about it since our games can get pretty brutal. But I don't go to many tournaments or anything. I usually go to Friday Night Magic and Pre-release events. I'm still kind of an amateur in that I don't know all the terms for anything, even though I've been playing a while. I've won Friday Night Magic a couple of times, but only because I'm an incredibly lucky drafter and have pulled some Atarkas.
I'm about to graduate from college in the winter, and I don't really have the cash to play anything but proxies and budget decks, but I really want to get into deckbuilding because it seems so fun. Anyway I'll be around, lurking. Or not!
