Now that all cards of Ixalan are spoiled, do we see other options besides Opt as 'potentials'?

    120% out of the box..

Now the meta has slowed down a little bit. Is something spicy like quicksilver fountain in combination with Oboro an option for our deck? Instead of spreading seas. The idea is too flood the board but not reaching a full flood because you can bounce Oboro.

    Something like this:

    13 Island
    4 Mutavault
3 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
    4 Aether Vial
    4 Cursecatcher
    3 Dismember
    4 Harbinger of the Tides
    4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
    4 Master of Waves
    4 Merrow Reejerey
    3 Quicksilver Fountain
    4 Silvergill Adept
    2 Smuggler's Copter

Kitchen table level or maybe even more? Wink

It indeed is a big kick in the fins. But maybe in some meta's playable?

    Oracle Text
When Sentinel Totem enters the battlefield, scry 1.

t, Exile Sentinel Totem: Exile all cards from graveyards.

What do you guys think of this card?

I think, to begin with, a 'free' scry helps our deck. Also we don't have tons of mana in our deck, so not having to leave mana open to 'crack' seems a plus as well.

But is it better than Relic? Relic can 'eat' graveyards slowly without having to sacrifice it. And it 'replaces' itself with the card draw bonus. But... in many situations we already need to leave mana open to have an active counter spell or removal in hand (or to bluff it).

Tormod's Crypt is also something to look at. The crypt is 'free' to cast. But does not 'shut' down Tarmogoyf or Scavenging Ooze. It also does not have card draw nor scrying.

My conclusion: It has different application than Relic and Tormod, but enough impact to give it a serious try.

Why do we not go up in copter count? For example 4? that way we can bring up the variety of tools (because of the looting). We can even go for a wider sideboard. Or am I 'over-valueing' copter now?

    4 Cursecatcher
    1 Dismember
    2 Harbinger of the Tides
    1 Kira, Great Glass-Spinner
    4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
    3 Master of Waves
    2 Merrow Reejerey
    4 Silvergill Adept
    4 Smuggler's Copter
    4 Spreading Seas
    2 Tidebinder Mage
    1 Vendilion Clique

    1 Cavern of souls in non-control meta's.

You can block non-flying x/4 creatures (and creatures with less toughness) with almost every merfolk (2/2 / 2/1) and kill it instead of chump blocking it. + you give your opponent extra things to 'play around' the mind **** is complete when having a vial open on 2. (yes I am overexaggerating a bit, it is not super powerful but adding extra complexity for an opponent is always good) ;-))

There are a lot of targets running around in tier 1 and 2.. And the downside is having 1 added colourless mana.

Did we ever try a one-of quicksand in the deck? Instead of a Cavern in a non-counter meta?

    Just for your information.
In Nikachus recent Vid there was quite some news/
Nikachu just got banned from MTGs so we won't hear from him in this forum anymore.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EssWUAE5Cfg

not only did he get banned. they went back through this thread and edited out all his links.

    this site sucks...

I am very interested in the reasoning behind it. Is it not allowed to share content that improves the ability of the overall community? Is merfolk getting too strong for mtgs?

That being said, i'm honestly not a fan building a deck tailored against just two decks. Try to keep a balanced deck in mind.

    I agree with @CoBTyrannon.

But if you do want to buy the cards (change your deck) for a local friend-meta, you can of course go all-out. Remove all 'normally stock' cards from it when they don't work (vapor snap, harbinger etc.) and add anti friend A + Friend B cards ;-). If you share the deck lists of your friends, we can go wild ;-).
