This is also crappy storytelling. The Phyrexians were always OP, but their one weakness was the inability to planeswalk. So what do the writers do as soon as they bring them back? Make that no longer apply, so now they can brainwash and conquer anyone and anything they want with little recompense. As if having plot armor thicker than the Antarctic ice caps weren't enough. So I think I officially don't care about the lore anymore, and with it, possibly not any future sets (except maybe Un-sets). Have they ever heard of Too Bleak; Stopped Caring?

Well...you can always hope that Tamiyo gets the Seven of Nine treatment...

    7 of 9 is divine.

That said, am I the only one concerned with Tamiyo's three forbidden scrolls now in Phyrexians' hand?

Nope, and the story took its time to point out that Phyrexian Tamiyo is perfectly willing to use them for the glory of New Phyrexia if need be...

That's my hope as well. The problem with phyresis was always that it destroys the soul, therefore there is nothing to bring back once someone undergoes it. But since compleated planeswalkers keep their soul (otherwise they couldn't planeswalk) they might at least be able to undo the personality changes in some way, shape or form.

Well, I was right that Tamiyo would get a PW card... but at this point I'm not sure that I want to be right...

I think at this point Karn should be less worried about compleation and more worried that Tamiyo is known to carry a nuke in at least one of her scrolls. Of course, that could backfire on the Phyrexians, as I believe it was intimated to be the Sylex blast that ended the Brothers' War. If someone else can figure out how to use it, or if compleation can be undone....

... and they put extra emphasis in the story on compleated Tamiyo looking at the three scrolls she swore to never use and thinking "Well, in the name of protecting and nourishing Phyrexia I will do that gladly!" basically. Really seems like it will come into play rather sooner than later. Also I think it was hinted that the "nuke" scroll emulates the destruction of Serra's Realm. To conclude, poor Tamiyo, the Phyrexians couldn't have gotten their hands on a better planeswalker for now, what with her scrolls and knowledge of the multiverse. Oh and they warped her love and protective feelings for her family to loving and protecting Phyrexia. Really feels bad.

I didn't expect the stories to come out in this rapid-fire kind of fashion so I haven't had the time to properly read through them, but from what I've read so far I have to say that Kaito doesn't seem very blue-black characterization-wise. A lot of his reactions and motivations seem to be tied to strong emotions and doing things the way he wants to because he feels like it, which make him seem a lot more red-blue.

Also, I can't help but chuckle a bit whenever "Risona" comes up. Risona/Resona Bank is a major bank in Japan, and the idea of it heading some sort of uprising is really funny.

Emotions are not what seperates colors from each other. Color identity can have many facets quite frankly, and it overlaps more with ideologies than with character traits. In this case Kaito is very much a pragmatic (black) futurist (blue). His goal is solely finding his friend, which has nothing to do with his colors. Black and blue characters can just as easily build deep connections to people as others. His colors are way more pronounced in his conflict with his sister: He believes technology should be used if it is available, no matter the consequences (black), and that progress should not be hindered (blue).

nope im not buying it one bit the wanderer killd jin plus jin mentioned somthing about a second one of him

on top of that she probably didn't even strike right a phyrexian could easily survive that especially since vorinclex lost almost everything from entering the planar bridge

so either fakes his death or she killed a decoy

I don't think it was even stated that she killed him, only that she dealt a serious blow to him that incapacitated Jin. I wouldn't worry about him at all.
So the Phyrexians are once again studying planeswalkers and the spiritual, both of which have eluded their grasp in the past. That certainly doesn't bode well.

That probably makes a new Tamiyo card quite unlikely sadly, unless they print four planeswalkers this time around. Would have preferred her getting one instead of Tezzeret. Oh well, at least her son gets a card. Tezzeret's name seems to underline that he is fully in league with the Phyrexians by now. And yeah, they will likely continue to not give us a planeswalker type for the wandering emperor.

Unstable sold well probably due to the lands and nothing else.

    'buster

Maybe, who cares. If that's what it takes so that the people who like Unsets get that product, so be it. There is literally no harm in it.

Great news, now they can delay this trash indefinitely and print a real set. Seriously, paying money for cards that aren't legal is pure madness.

But some of them are legal this time, so that argument falls more flat than usual, and clearly people like it or they wouldn't be printing it. I'd rather have this than 100 more Secret Lairs or the next $15/pack limited set, or Double Feature.
they made some of the cards legal exactly because people were losing interest in unsets. this increases perceived value of set as people could sell cards potentially valuable for other formats. it's artificial increase of product value and it's a bad sign that they did this. i enjoyed ocasional unset draft but my lgss never sold even remotely close amount of unset product compared to normal sets.

Strange, from what I remember Unglued sold moderately well, Unhinged was a sale disaster because of overprinting as well as some bad designs and Unstable had to be reprinted multiple times because of the high demand. Were do you get 'people start to lose interest in unsets' out of that?

Seems that power and electricity are generated directly via drawing magic from the spirit realm. Supplementary to Clarke's Third Law: Sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology. Also kind of heartwarming that Boseiju is doing all it can to remain the highest point in the city so that people don't forget about where all of this is coming from.

Also, love all the different art styles for the sagas!

Got to agree with HighHolder, they could delay this set indefinitely for all I care.

Still don't understand that some people seem to really think that their own likes or dislikes are the only ones that matter and that only those should be reflected in Wizards policies. Unstable sold extremely well, so there are obviously a lot of people who don't think like you do. Just let us have our fun with the Unsets.
    ?
I merely expressed that I don't care for the set and thus its delay. Where did you read that I proclaimed my likes and dislikes as the only ones that matter?

You agreed with HighHolder, whose comment definitely went into that direction, so it was not strange of me to assume that you hold similar positions. If I was mistaken about your own personal stance, then I am sorry that I included you in this. My point still stands.

Well, after the last story (Shattered States) I simply accept that they are retconning things left and right.

you know potentially the answer is within the leaks why they are severely retconning the story’s

So they can get tezzert and Jin gitaxias in the story and maybe the wanderer

Alternatively it is pretty much an oversight or intentional because these are in-universe history lessons that might or might not be accurate. We just don't know yet. I will look into my Saviors of Kamigawa book again to see whether Michiko was explicitely described as immortal and permanently bonded to Kyodai. If not, then all of these stories are perfectly fine without retcon, and only the appearance of the sisters before Bolas is problematic (though not unexplainable). I think they really did read every single Kamigawa story as they said, but might have forgotten about Kamigawa's small cameo roles in other stories.

    Ok…

    https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/shattered-states-era-2022-01-18

They completely changed everything about michiko and kyodai…

Konda's are banned to be emperor's so the absent emperor is not a konda

with that out of the way now where we’re we with that theory azusa is the wanderer.

Small nitpick, they are not banned, it's just that their bloodline doesn't inherit the throne anymore. Instead it seems to be a kami-based elected monarchy now, where everyone with the proper character traits might become emperor (including a Konda).

I wonder about Michiko and Kyodai. The one thing that bothers me still is their implicit appearance in Future Sight (I think it was there). There was no direct indication that their Sisters form was permanent or that Michiko wasn't still mortal (though obviously empowered). Maybe an overlook? If they only read the Kamigawa stories they could easily get to the story as told without retconning much, but that darn appearance in front of Bolas...

    It's not dismissive, it's descriptive.
An underlying logic that doesn't actually work for everyone (since there are people like me who don't agree with this uncannny valley effect explanation and also don't feel it) is still irrational. There are no objective reasons for it, that's all that means. A rational argument would work without subjective feelings. And that's ok, I am not saying that an irrational argument can't have merit, but it also only has that for the people feeling like this.
And my bad if I misinterpreted it as goalpost moving, just felt that way because the same people gave these different answers over time and didn't really answer to my objections to them (or simply dismissed them). But you are right, it could be that they simply have trouble describing the problem.
I personally don't feel your points, but it's ok. I guess we simply have to agree to disagree.
I guess we do. You're using a very scientific definition of logic, where something built on it has be reproduceable for 100% of the people. I'm not sure how much merit this has considering the thing we are talking about ... art, which is inherently subjective (and even MtG game design in a broader sense, which has a lot more technical aspects, is often influenced by how designers or playtesters feel about stuff). When I'm using "logic" here, I mean "a well-reasoned description of cause and effect that resonates with the biggest possible amount of people who are having a certain reaction to something." (Which does seem to fit your "descriptive" comment.) The traditional uncanny valley effect (related to human-like robots/androids/etc.) is generally accepted as "a thing," but I bet that there are people out there who don't get it at all. We're not talking about an exact science here, but if that's what you meant with "irrational" I can accept that.

Edit: I'm still kind of curious how the people that are fine with the DJ art would react to a card art featuring a weapon that is, in terms of outward appearance, a real-world glock, but shoots little fireballs instead of bullets ... and its user is wearing some big pauldron fantasy armor.

    That's what I meant.

I would have nothing against firearms in Magic. They wouldn't even have to make it that 'magic-y'. The crossbows of Innistrad were pretty normal looking too after all. I always thought of these lines as rather arbitrary. In a wild west world I would actually love if they get over their gun-phobia. I would appreciate it if they made the guns a bit more fantastic than normal guns, but the whole 'guns are absolutely the line that must not be crossed' thing is weird. They do have to fit the world in which they appear though (as I said, wild west for example). Again, this is my opinion, and I understand that other people feel different. But these are not hard, objective lines that somehow define what is fantasy or acceptable in Magic and what is not. It's people's opinions and tastes, and those can as we all know differ wildly.
