I am relatively new to Magic, I have been seriously playing since Born of the Gods came out. The prerelease was my first Magic event. I have been working on building a collection but only for the purposes of building decks and trading for cards that I need. I have had some success in Limited formats like Sealed and Draft but I am having issues understanding the ins and outs of building competently in other formats like Standard and EDH. I have so far only taken deck lists from online and building the decks with some alterations due to cards that I can get. This approach has had some success but not what I am looking for. I need help to understand how to build a deck for different formats but I do not want to break the bank doing it. I have a limited budget at my disposal and I have some time to research cards and combos but not to the Nth degree. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you for the suggestions. I already have a Standard deck that I have used. I have not have many opportunities to use it.
