Alright guys. I got some cards coming soon, and I changed the deck to "Mardu Tokens" after having play tested this deck finally.
Problem is, I ordered too many good cards and I don't know which ones to keep and also which of my current cards to keep. This is where you guys hopefully chime in to help me out.
Here is what I ordered. After having time to really think about it, I figured to keep 4x of Hordeling Outburst and Raise the Alarm and that's it for tokens... especially since I have 2x Mardu Charms in there that can interchangeably kill a creature or produce them.
Im pretty dead set on Mardu atm, since FNM is tonight and last minute big changes like switching to mono black or monored could mess with my head, plus my black collection is not that great. Maybe after today I could switch it up, but I really like the butchers... and crackling dooms. Also playing over and over... (by my lonesome), I have seen that, as long as I get the 3 colors of mana, I'm golden. I just took out the scouts and desperate stands and will replace them with token gens. Don't own thunderbreak but maybe some black/red drag like Boltwing Marauder would be good? I have two of those. I think Coat with Venom is good just because it's one mana and on turn 2 I can get extra damage or kill a creature and live, I may take them out for the extra space to add in token gens. What do you mean by fixing? and how do I "fix" it?
I guess I could try and get some trades to get a mana confluence or fetch land.
I've play tested this and made several changes like 6 times last night and I still feel it's not right. The lands I get sometimes are not the ones I need and also if I get the tapped lands, my early game suffers. I'm not that experienced enough to know which ratio of lands would be best for a deck like this as this is my first tri color deck that I actually have taken a liking to. I have more black stuff and have noticed that I would need more swamps, and so I put in more above the rest, but sometimes I get way too many swamps. UGH! Anyways. I have playsets for almost every card in here except for pain lands, I tried to get as much of those as possible, but for right now, it's what I got. Any advice is he appreciated.
Thanks for the reply, yeah I'll check him out, and I see what you mean and it is inconsistent, so I guess I just gotta really see who is important and when. If I had the fetches or duels I definitely would, but I am just coming back to the game after so long, so I have some buying to do.
Hey guys, just getting back into magic again after years of not playing it (Rise of the Eldrazi and lower down to Odyssey).
The Tarkir block is brand new to me and I bought some cards and have been playing and deck building for 2 weeks. For 14 years of playing, I'd say my deck building is below average and could use some critiquing.
In the past two weeks, I've bought a box of Dragons, a fatty from Fate Reforged, and bought/won about ~12 boosters from Khans. Next box I buy will be from Khans.... ANYWAYS...
---------
I have the playset for most of these cards, but I went 2-3 on some because I have 3 colors and it's hard for me to choose so I went a couple on all the ones I needed to fight against mono-red, enchantments that exile deck, and dragons of any sort that are played at my FNMs. My goal with this deck is to get my lands quick so that I can curve out to my big scary guys while trying to combat all of these archetypes from creatures little to big and to fight off enchantments that exile. Feed the clan mainly to counter the quick pain I will take from mono red while my spells pin their creatures down, same for plummets for dragons. Thought about adding two Hidden Dragonslayer but for now they are in my sideboard.
Isn't net decking frowned upon? I'm afraid everyone would know that I net decked if I competed at an FNM lol. I did buy some cards last week however to make a deck that I seen on the net. It's really good, I like the play style. I was debating on taking my own deck to this week's FNM or a high chance of winning net deck.
I've been playing MTG for 14 years casually, did some tournies early on in the first five years. Fell out of love with the game after that and was on and off buying magic cards here and there every year. But now I'm getting back into it and I want to compete at FNMs.
One thing about me that is pathetic that I've noticed about myself, is that for a 14 year player, I have never created decks like the ones I see high level players playing that have playing for a shorter amount of time than me. You know... the cool "combo" logically sound, and stylish winning decks.
Do you have to be a smart person to create these decks? Do you have to have your brain wired differently to be able to see strategies to create awesome deck themes? Sort of like how certain people can naturally draw and do mathematics no problem their whole life.
I've just always had mediocre themed decks. I look at some of the high priced cards and also see cards that people play, and I'm thinking "I would never even use that card" some of these cards just have abilities and effects that I don't think are that good, and then they get used amazingly in a deck at a tournament. So how does that person see that card differently than I see that card? I just look for cards that sound like they have cool or awesome effects. Like for example... paying one health to use a mana, is not something I would enjoy having in my deck... but apparently it's all the rage these days.
How do I stop being a Timmy/Spike player and step up to the big leagues? I just bought a booster box of Dragons and so far this block is impressive, there are awesome new abilities like exploit, manifest, dash... yadda yadda, but I don't know where to begin, with what theme, and even if I do begin to build a deck around an effect, I usually end up putting in mediocre creatures with high costs and spells that just help creatures out. The easy answer would be to NOT do any of that, but that's all I know really... "just put cool spells with cool creatures... make a deck".
Problem is, I ordered too many good cards and I don't know which ones to keep and also which of my current cards to keep. This is where you guys hopefully chime in to help me out.
Here is what I'm keeping from the original deck.
4x Butcher of the Horde
4x Crackling Doom
2x Mardu Charm
1x Sorin, Solemn Visitor
2x Ultimate Price????
Here is what I ordered. After having time to really think about it, I figured to keep 4x of Hordeling Outburst and Raise the Alarm and that's it for tokens... especially since I have 2x Mardu Charms in there that can interchangeably kill a creature or produce them.
4xHordeling Outburst
4x Raise the Alarm
4x Triplicate Spirits
4x Spear of Heliod
4x Searing Blood
2x Flamewake Phoenix
4x Dauntless Onslaught
4x Coordinated Assault
4x Akroan Crusader
4x Vanguard of Brimaz
4x Seeker of the Way
4x Arc Lightning
4x Oppressive Rays
4x Rise to the Challenge
Lands ordered
1x Caves of Koilos
1x Battlefield Forge
4x Nomad Outpost... already have two... 1 before I ordered... 1 after I opened a pack of khans after I ordered.... go figure
Lands in the deck after receiving them will be.
22 lands:
4x Mountain
2x Swamp
2x Plains
4x Nomad Outpost
2x Caves of Koilos
2x Battlefield Forge
2x Evolving Wilds
2x Wind-Scarred Crag
2x Scoured Barrens
I have a playset of the mardu and 2 secure the wastes.
I could add more duals like Wind-Scarred Crag, Bloodfell Caves, and Scoured Barrens but the only reason I took most of them out was because of the tapped slowing my gameplay.
I guess I could try and get some trades to get a mana confluence or fetch land.
4x Mardu Shadowspear
4x Gurmag Swiftwing
2x Mardu Scout
3x Ambuscade Shaman
4x Reckless Imp
4x Butcher of the Horde
Planeswalkers 1
1x Sorin, Solemn Visitor
2x Pacifism
2x Ultimate Price
2x Desperate Stand
3x Mardu Charm
3x Foul-Tongue Invocation
4x Coat with Venom
4x Crackling Doom
1x Nomad Outpost
1x Caves of Koilos
1x Scoured Barrens
1x Battlefield Forge
1x Wind-Scarred Crag
2x Evolving Wilds
4x Plains
5x Mountain
6x Swamp
Should I add in more duals? less singles? How are the creatures and spells? Sideboard suggestions? I have like 40 sideboard cards and Idk what to use.
