Hero of Oxid Ridge and Vengevine both have a few things in common. They're crazy good 4 drops, they haste into opponents, they synergize if they're out at the same time, preventing standard's many walls from doing their job and swinging for 9.
So, in an attempt to put these guys together into one deck i'm tempted to play with either lead the stampede or genesis wave. I think in the right build stampede can be much more powerful.
so here's the rough draft, tell me what you think.
just wanted to say sorry for your luck. Here's to hoping you got plenty of the regular rare playables this time. Fortunately this set's mythics arent that highly priced in value and there are lots of 'regular' rare playables.
cheer's mate
As for me, I opened 2 boxes... got two thruns, 1 sword , 2 heros of oxid ridge, 1 blightsteel, 1 glyssa, and none of the rest. so 7 mythics across 2 boxes seems average since a box should net with this set 3.5 mythics per box.
if myr welder removes an equipment, will you be able to equip myr welder onto stuff? If so... well... what?
I presume it only copies any activated abilities. the equipcost and anything else on the equipment with a : on it. but no bonuses, special abilities, etc.
I find this a very depressing change after years and years of this.
I know that at my local store where I help out, players are very concerned about their player rewards cards. We have some players who will come to a 5 dollar standard event on FNM just to be able to play a couple of rounds "Just because I get player rewards points."
not providing something that compensates players in a similar fashion is a mistake.
Truth is, if they gave something to retailers to give out at EVERY event, or EVERY fnm... bigger and badder than the gateway kits... then this would be using an already 'in place' system and would remove an obsoleted one.
But without the options of earning big name cards like textless foil ***'s, cryptic commands and the like... it will pale by comparision.
I know a lot of folks who will greatly miss this part of magic, myself included.
One of the easiest ways I had of hooking a player and having them return multiple times is by saying "if you signup for player rewards you'll get free cards almost every time you come back here to play!"
The problem is that alot of stuff like that is intended for newer players but won't reach them.
Hi, I'm 17, been playing magic for 3 years. I have about 800 cards. My most expensive card is my ~foil~ Malfegor I opened in a pack, it was awesome. I heard there'll be a new box set coming out with those really cool old cards that have a new frame so they'll look like the rest of my cards but it's 35$ not sure if I can afford it, my allowance sucks...
Hi, im 51, I've been playing since Alpha and got like 7 Black Lotii, 2 from beta, 2 from alpha and 3 from revised. I might have around 72 000 cards, mostly in boxes in the basement. I have a completed playset of the cards in like almost all the sets. Wizards is publishing something that'd give me more of the old cards I have, so I'll buy all my LGS have and sell them for profit on ebay. This is going to rock.
See how it goes? I'm 17, I have an allowance but no job even if I do tend to save up for stuff. Don't have a foil Malfegor. Opened a Koth like a week or two ago. Don't know how many cards I have but not over 2000. Thats basicly how the things for younger/newer players are.
I work at my local gaming shop as a judge, and this product is a VERY welcomed product. I can tell you the EXACT demographic it targets and its a much needed demographic.
Someone comes in and says one of the following:
I used to play a long time ago and want to jump back in.
I've been playing casually at home and want to try a tournament, but dont want to get stomped constantly.
I'm looking to try competitive play.
This is a perfect place for them. Normally we'd recommend they start with a precon that fits their needs/desires and that they'd need to improve heavily on it. That's 12 bucks + some boosters.
Or we'll recommend buying a box if they can afford it, but even then, you cant expect to get 4 l.bolts, 4 nighthawks, etc... the things you'd want for a deck.
This is a PERFECT jumping off point for a guy who comes in on thursday and wants to try our standard FNM on friday. It happens way more than you think.
I think that one of the markets for this product, similar to slivers, is to make people go "Wow!" and "I remember those!" and "Its a whole sliver deck!" or "its a whole burn deck!"
putting cards into the front that people fondly remember using, seeing, talking about, etc, are all key to the product.
So, seeing something like chain lightning and jackal pup, while they may not be 'tournament staples' add to that nostalgia and wow factor, and will pull players back into the fold to own this deck and want to find someone to play it against.
overall its a smart product and while its certainly not for tournament players, or even a lot of competitive players of any sorts, it scratches a very needed itch for casual players, edh players, and the like.
Ultimately, however, 35 bucks for that crowd is steep. Which is why you can still find sliver decks on walmart shelves for 20 bucks.
Just wanted to come in and say that affinity is an intersting choice and if designed/used correctly could/would be fun and interesting.
Affinity for Planeswalkers
Affinity for basic lands
Affinity for white creatures
Affinity for tokens on permanents you control
Affinity for creatures with lifelink
there's beautiful design space here, and, if balanced by making sure that the colorelss portion of the spells allow only a 1-3 cost reduction, balanced.
1 PUPU
Counter Target Spell.
simple as that. Perfect spell
I'll try your build
Flux: My thought was a 2/1 for 2 is rarely bad, feeds all of the other cards in the deck, and in the invent of death thins the deck.

so here's the rough draft, tell me what you think.
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Goblin Guide
4 Fauna Shaman
4 Lotus Cobra
4 Viridian Emmissary
4 Vengevine
4 Hero of Oxid Ridge
1 Gaea's Revenge
4 Rootbound Crag
4 Raging Ravine
4 Evolving Wilds
6 Forest
5 Mountain

sorry to hear yours was under par
I figure this will come up several times this weekend as people open welders

thank you
Jace, the Mind Sculptor 2UU
Artifact Planeswalker Creature - Jace
His usual abilities
Loyalty = whatever his loyalty currently is
5/5 power/toughness
at least that's my thinking. not 100% sure based on my understanding of the rules that tezzeret's second ability would remove any types or supertypes.

he said playable. that one is overcosted and circumstantial at best, compared to... oh... about a million other black sweepers.
mutilate, damnation, so forth and so on.
I dont know anything about this product and unfortunately found nothing about it here (please forgive me and lock if i simply overlooked it, thanks!)
Anyone have any more information? I think quite a lot of us would like to get our hands on one of these.
