The End of an Era

Well, if you think about the distinguishing features of lands, plains does have an earthy vibe.

Island - mainly focused on the surrounding sea and the winds that come from that
Forest - trees and more trees
Swamp - lots of critters and plants that causes sickness and murky water you might shouldn't drink
Mountain - red kinda focuses more on volcanoes whether the art depicts this or not with the fire and lighting

    and then we have plains:
Distinctive features are basically the earth, sun and barely alive grass.

Would Jotaro and Iggy from JoJo Bizarre Adventure be hero or anti-hero? They are both self interested and would likely be black if they were cards.

Casting Shadow of Doubt and activating ghost quarter in the same turn is really inefficient. Consider Rain of Tears which does the same thing, for the same mana at sorcery speed and is only one card. You also have to sacrifice ghost quarter. If you could catch your opponent activating a fetchland, and then SoD and ghost quarter another land in response, it'd be worth it. But that's a trick I think that would only work once. All in all, I'd rather just cast Smallpox.

There is a subtle difference. This combo is instant and you lose a land rather than a card out of your hand since it cantrips.
So the question is which is better: being down 1 card in your hand or down 1 land.
So then it sorta matters what else you are doing like say running a card with delve which welcomes and extra thing in the grave.

    Where did these come from?

Anyways, the second one looks like Bolas horns with his little floating diamond thing like he has.

The youtube teaser showed the land become lifeless and devoid so I figure the first set is fighting the Eldrazi and the second set is mourning the loss of Zendikar as it became a lifeless husk of a plane.

This is a worse sigarda, host of herons. I play a lot of casual multiplayer, and it'll be pretty lame for it to get doom bladed or whatever basically as soon as I end my turn.

I don't see the logic. These two do not do the same thing. Sigarda is protected from things like doomblade but when your opponent has counterspells she is the one you don't want to play and Dromoka is the one you do.

I think all you haters will be disappointed at how well this will still sell.

I am not so sure. The pre-order price on Starcitygames went from $300 to $249 overnight for a booster box. That is a dip of $50 simply because of the full spoiler. Many assume this is because of many canceled pre-orders.
It will probably sell ok but to say it will sell "well" I am not sure is the right wording.

  • posted a message on effect of a dissapointing (general opinion) Modern Master set: lets speculate
So I was just speculating on what the effect will be of a Modern Masters set the player base in general finds disappointing or nigh unworthy to buy packs for?

I see that it can have two mutually exclusive effects:

    1. With little packs being opened/bought, there is left over boxes to be opened by suppliers/shops causing a surplus in the money cards like Tarmogoyf and thus a drastic drop in their value.

    2. Money cards like Tarmogoyf actually increase partially from stores raising the prices to mitigate losses on boxes that didn't hold any value. Since players on their own didn't open packs as much, the extra supply is held by the shops who set the prices controlling the drop that would be expected.

Honestly I am not sure which effect I am more on the side of happening. What do you guys think? Any other effects you think might happen?

I don't see the legitimacy of complaints about "this is just things we already knew".

It is actually not. Infact many of the very questions people asked before (showing you didn't know it) have just now been answered.

Questions like: Has Sarkhan met with Ugin before Ugin left the plane?
Is Ugin just gonna leave Tarkir as it was?
What is Sarkhan going to be up to now?
How has time travel affected the multiverse?
How is Sarkhan still around despite timetravel shennigans?
    etc

Saying it is bad writing is one thing, but to say it gave us nothing we didn't already know is demonstrably false.

And so endeth the tales of Sarkhan and Narset...for now...

Having both of them do the whole "I'm not interested in touring planes right now" shtick is a convenient way of putting both of them on the shelf for a while so they can concentrate on other planeswalkers without any Vorthoses nagging them about why Sarkhan and Narset haven't shown up on Random Plane X in Random Set Y because said set was clearly tailor made for Dragon-boy and Kung-Fu girl. It's a bot of a copout, but it works.

Maybe for Narset, but Sarkhan's story really feels finished. He started in Alara searching for Dragons to worship and now he has come full circle explaining all the parts of his story like the voice in his head. But instead of worshipping dragons, he has become one himself more or less.
Him staying on Tarkir forever actually is consistent with his overall desires since he was created.

  • posted a message on set after Battle for Zendikar to not be on Zendikar
An interesting part of the story is that Emrakul and Kozilek have left Zendikar. It would be interesting to see this block become a follow up of the Eldrazi rather than a follow up of Zendikar itself. But I believe this is where they shift into 2 set blocks so they couldn't follow all three Eldrazi unless Emrakul and Kozilek went together.

So it would be like, cut to Zendikar where you have war against the Eldrazi, cut to other plane where you have an invading force of Eldrazi coming in.

Or perhaps they would dedicate 2 sets for Zendikar, then the 2 sets after them to where Kozilek is invading then the next 2 sets to where Emrakul is invading. If this happens I would think this might be one small factor that could have went into the idea of no more 3 set blocks since it would accomplish the idea of spending less time on a plane so you could make a cut here and there of invading forces. I guess this could work for future Phyrexian invasion forces too.

this would be a way to make high costing eldrazi more playable assuming they print more in the return to zendikar

    then manifest helps out too

  • posted a message on What do think are the chances the Commander 2014 Nahiri card gets printed in Standard?
The storyline of Return to Zendikar seems that it will follow Sorin in some fashion of finding Nahiri or what is "left of her".

Assuming she is alive and he finds her, do you think her card will be a new one completely or is it possible that the commander 2014 card will be used but without the text "can be used as a commander"?

  • posted a message on Could and Eldrazi Planeswalker be possible?
As far as I understand, any creature has the potential gain a spark. It could be that in the past
one of these got one or maybe one will ascend with the upcoming war against other planeswalkers.

Do you think this is possible? And what about likelihood?
