Hello, MTGS thread readers! I'm pretty exclusively a BG/UB/mono-black player, and I wanna change things up in my meta and throw off my friends a little. I'm really hoping to make a Jhoira 60 card deck (modern preferred, but it's pretty laid back and casual in my group).
I already know I want to include a playset of Fury Charms, a couple Jhoiras, 2 or 3 Hypergenesises, (MAYBE) a copy or two of Aether Rift, obviously some fatties, and because I love the flavor of the card and I have yet to see it used, I would love a way to incorporate Isochron Scepter.
The deck doesn't have to have the scepter or the rift, but they're cool cards and I'd like to make an attempt at breaking them.
Can someone help me out with some decent beaters that are costed efficiently so this deck isn't just "Cast Jhoira, use her ability and hope she doesn't get removed or wiped"?
P.S.: This also needs a snarky/comical name, but I'm thinking "I'm cheating on Jhoira with some fatties" is what I'm going with.
I know I necro'd, so forgive me. But this has some definite late game potential in modern/casual as well. Using this in my next deck, so I figured I'd give credit where it's due. +1
Well, just going off of the whole Dragon Fodder/Krenko's Command isea, would it be viable to maybe go all out with goblins with rabblemaster, Krenko himself and some other relevant goblins, then top it off with Nobilis and Iroas? That might have some playability with Cathars' Crusade late game.
I had this idea for Assemble the Legion + Doubling Season (the price for some of the cards is irrelevant since my play group usually proxies until we find a batch we like then slowly replace the proxies until we have the whole 60) + Cathars' Crusade. I've never been against a load of strong tokens midgame. Plus, you could just make an elf deck for ramp into that with Rhys, Bloodbraid and the elf that adds r/g with each attack. Maybe I'm in Christmasland, but I might be onto something for casual.
And in regard to the numbers, I'm considering no more than maybe 2 of Iroas, and maybe 3 of the Bow. I like how it works, but I'm not going to make the deck dependent on it. I'd like to get token gen like Assemble the Legion, and maybe one of the green cards (the name is slipping me) that has a similar effect to Mana Flare just to speed things up.
Yeah, I was thinking casual myself. Not because the synergy isn't there, but because I have days where I want to be mean and crank out an infect deck or a storm deck, and then there are days where I like to compete still, but not squash people in 3-5 turns. My new group I play with are all casual anyways, and three color decks aren't all that competitive for the most part (exceptions duly noted, based on the builder's skill).
I'm just looking for something fun to pilot that isn't a snooze-fest, isn't too hard to have mana available to play on any given turn, and something that isn't going to make everyone hate me by game 3.
On a separate note (and correct me if I'm wrong), but Iroas doesn't need to be a creature for her ability to affect the board state, does he? I may or may not turn it into a Naya build, but I just came across the synergy/combo/whatever you'd like to call it, and I thought it'd be too fun to pass up casually.
I'm newer to Magic (within the past 8-9 months or so), and I remember coming across a peculiar creature from an earlier set than when I began (between Journey into the Nyx and M15) similar to the Warden of the First Tree from Fate Reforged. I know it was in Boros colors, but it was hybrid like the abilities that the Warden has. If anyone could point me in the direction of said creature (I know, it's vague information, but it's the best I've got without spending hours on Gatherer), I'd greatly appreciate it! Also, are there more creatures in all the guild colors (Orzhov, Azorius, Gruul, etc.) like the one I'm talking about?
So, just thought of throwing Iroas, God of Victory and Bow of Nylea together in a potential deck for late game shenanigans. Can anyone give me a hand for any other must-haves and some help on the land base? Try to keep it modern legal, but I'll consider it for other 60 card formats. Definitely want some instant speed pumps, but I wanna see what all else the community thinks and also to see if this a viable idea.

Most? What's an example of tokens adding devotion?
