I think it really depends on the format and what you are trying to force. Personally in Allegiance, I need to focus more on drafting a 2-colour consistent decks than trying to force Gates. It does suck when someone crushes you because they got presented multiple Colossi, Rams, and Angels, and used 13 draft slots for lands. When I have tried to force it, it has gone spectacularly bad.

I have noticed in my experiences that certain lack-luster rares seem to be more present and continually in my pools. Currently in M19 drafts, of the 9 first pick rares/mythics presented over 3 runs, 4 have been "One with the Machine", with a couple more being presented in later picks.

The Rank seasons are only for the month. At the start of every month you will be assigned a new rank based on how you finished the previous month.

Also depends on if you want a foil or not. Personally, I like the new art though, and that is coming from someone who played Show and Tell back in Urza's Block.

Not that it is really any good compared to modern cards, but Viashivan Dragon is the original R/G Dragon. Plus you get the two drakes (Kyscu Drake and Spitting Drake) that helps bring your curve down a bit. Also there is Jugan, the Rising Star that has a nice effect to place on Atarka.

    Serra Angel is an uncommon.
Also, with both Suspension Field and Banishing Light being in your deck, you may want to consider Warden of the Beyond.

I'm not sure if this deck has the reach to go up against some of the fat that Green/Red has to offer. You have the removal, but you might need something like Serra Angel or the like to help close out games.

That Ice Age Plains is part of a mural with the 3 other Plains art, showcasing all 4 "Seasons". I believe that was representing Spring. It is actually a very nice scene when viewed all together.

If you want opponents creatures to do nothing, use Arrest.

Brilliant Halo is a good replacement for Holy Strength, in that it is repeatable. If you wanted to add a few more heroic cards, Flickering Ward could be a monster addition.

I'd probably be changing the Ember Haulers for something like hellspark elemental

  • posted a message on So what killed Extended?
It mostly had to do with people having cards for 2 sets of rotations, Standard and Extended (then everything becoming Legacy/Vintage) and trying to maintain it. The reasoning behind the large card pool is really interesting coming from an R&D member, considering soon Modern will have more cards in its pool than Extended would have at any rotation. Extended was lots of fun though, I was disappointed it got cancelled to make way for Modern. I think the thing that made me upset the most about the switch was thinking to myself I'd probably never play a FTK competitively again.

It's kind of like the old Urza's Bauble theory. If you draw the card immediately, everyone would run 4 copies to make their deck effectively 56 cards, hence why it is drawn in the next upkeep (same with Mishara's Bauble as well). Probe lets you run 56 cards at the cost of 8 life (if you are unable to produce blue). A smaller deck size means you see the cards you want/need to see with more frequency. If your deck can afford potentially starting at 12 life, a 56 card deck will run a lot smoother.

Are you allowed to cut the deck after an opponent shuffles it?

Nope, but you can call a judge if you suspect something might be wrong with the way your opponent shuffled your deck. There isn't a judge in the world who wouldn't at least re-shuffle your deck for you after you've voiced such a concern.

When did they change this? I stopped playing around Zendikar in competitive magic, but up until then, if your opponent shuffled your deck (not cut), you were allowed one final cut of your own deck.

Back in the olden days of judging, when you were table judging for a feature match, we used to have to keep track of all land drops and when. At around Llorwyn, they (WotC) told us to stop this practice. I can't remember the reasoning why they wanted us to stop either.
