Cards you already own
Most anything modern (all fetches, etc). assume I'm able to access most anything but would prefer not to invest into staples that won't retain a good fraction of their value once rotated (Jace, Deathmist, Den protector, Gideon etc)
Colors you like to play
Anything. I'm a spike. I am that guy.
Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue)
See above
Budget you have
Going to have to trade/borrow most of this so budget is a consideration but see point #1.
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq)
I've been out of standard since Khans - ptq.
Store I've just moved to has 50% dromoka's command decks, 25% esper control and 25% garbage. as I've been out of the meta so long, no idea of what beats what. Help?
Has anyone tried unified will with yp? Tempo decks are often ahead on guys against non aggro, and the excess 1/1's generated for later should mean that this is a hard counter for 2
I'm from a fairly rural area with 3 lgs within a 20 min drive, with 2 confirming that there will be some drafting of MM.
Store one is doing a draft, where you buy a box, open 3 packs, no cost to draft (but you must buy a complete box yourself). Prizes are: a card from the reserve list (from distributor) and maybe something else. Box cost is I know but likely close to ssg (300).
Store 2 is trying to figure out price point: 50$ is the current suggestion for the draft, with 2 packs per person going into the prize pool.
Store 3 has said nothing other than "we'll do something"
What are your local stores doing for cost/prizing for MM events or drafts?
Trying to make Lilly + squee + fauna shaman work right now. It's still very much a work in progress, but the ability to g1 tutor for magus of the moon vs tron is crazy.
Smallpox is the card that makes it work. It solves the "they play a guy" bit. Boom is your other option for t2 ld, but the only card that makes it good is citadel.
Also, playing first.
You also have to run a finisher with a quick clock that resists bolt and path. I'm currently using phyrexian crusader and a pike. I've used magnivore in the past and it's been decent but if the opponent is smart and doesn't path the deathrite it's a much longer game. I'd live to run something else as a finisher as the deck has "adds up" dmg (them using fetchlands, taking shock lands untapped trying to get a foothold) a lot but the protection has been nothing short of amazing. You could always run wildfire emissary or something (pro white with a 4 back end)
I think one of the great possibilities in this is that with this wizards could easily push out modern promos as fnm rewards and lower the costs on some stoles without cratering the market, eg redo bloodbraid/finks/path, add inquisition of kozilek, to alleviate prices.
Who knows, maybe they'll rethink the "common/uncommon" only level and print a large run of staples in order to keep prices down. Vendillion clique is not eternally popular and has shot up to a huge price quietly, despite seeing almost no play outside modern.
I don't see a ton of notes on any of the RTR stuff, is there anything worth looking at?
Does Lotleth troll potentially have a spot? it's one more but the upside is that it's quite a bit more effective at attacking with than imp or tribe.
of the LED less lists I see very few playing sphinx - is that just a reflection of "it's slower so don't go all in?"
on that note, isn't Sphinx of the Chimes a strictly better replacement? by controlling what you dredge, you should have the ability to just chain your library.
One of the things to think about is that they could simply print this again next year (2014) to move the costs down: at some point goyf becomes prime titian
If the set is limited allocated and stores aren't selling just drafting, expect a market flood with the next one.
I know, it's not really feasible to put out the t1 trini. But fetchland into shaman means you can on t2, same as birds. The problem becomes Jund, who can just kill your t1/t2 and out advantage you that way.

Curtly working on a reanimator shell.

Ben, the lady who's on the phones to answers questions and resolve concerns about online orders does a very good job. You should tell her that.
