Hello. I'm stopping in here from the Hosting Signup Thread. Iso suggested I ask here if I can open a thread with a poll to see if there is enough interest in playing a 30 player mafia game before having my set up checked. I know that 30 players is a lot. That's why I'm asking that this be a Player's Choice Game. If I can get 35+ of the sites 70+ active players interested in playing the game within 7 days, I would like permission to have someone check it over and begin the game as soon as is reasonable.

Just a piece of friendly advice: Games that have a first digit in the number of players of 2 or more have a history of needing replacements and modkills due to inactivity. I would recommend to anyone designing a game to keep it under 20 players. That's not to say that we won't allow games to be larger, we will, but experience has taught me that even though there may be vocal interest in something, that doesn't really map onto the reality of the situation well.

No user that has I've talked to that has modded a game Art has been in since he was put on probation seems to have reservations about removing him from the probation list. That said, I would take that as proof that he's on the right track, and would desire a couple more months of this continued improvement before being willing to remove him from the probation list. (At least half a year of marked improvement)

Aritifice, would you mind providing me a list of all the games you've played in since being put on probation and/or the mods that ran them?

What if there was a Chrome extension that handled certain mafia tasks you think are important? Marking posts as important, coloring known scum/town usernames, etc. This is something I'm brainstorming specifically because Ahlysis brought up his question about the thank system.

Is this something mods would have no issues with, as long as the tool was restricted to bookkeeping tasks?

I think that would be nifty. I currently use a note tool that allows me to more or less put post-it-notes on pages so that I can make notes about players right on the thread. I don't see any issue in bookkeeping tools.

Just because he doesn't want to unify every stickied thread and you disagree means we need a second secretary?

I have no issues with the amount of stickied threads and I'm okay with adding more. People should be using the subscription feature for their games anyway.

I like the prefix colors how they are.

Are you guys sure you're not just over-legislating things that don't need changing?

The issue really isn't in regards to people that are already playing. It's in regards to new players to the forum. When all the threads 'above the fold' are stickies, I would think it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Right now, our set of stickies is a disjointed mess.

In regards to the clan game/other game prefix, I'm open to color suggestions (preferably the color hex code) that look reasonable on all skins. As soon as I find one that works well, I can put that request in.

Prefix tag colors: It has come to my attention that some people in the sub find the multiple prefix colors an eyesore. Another informal poll, keep them as they are or change all to a uniform color?

Council, is it alright if we sticky this: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=437647 ?

For the time-being, I see no problem with stickifying the thread. I want to explore other avenues as we're running a lot of stickies and I don't know about anyone else, but that just seems/looks wrong to me.

What happened was that while i was playing, the computer just shut down completely. I saw i flash of some blue or black screen with white text on it, but it was gone before i could read it.
When i tried to reboot, i got a "No bootable device - please connect a (something something)" error screen.

Sorry for my woeful knowledge of computers. =)

Also, the computer showed up after i started this thread, so i'll try and post the specs tomorrow.

    EDIT:
    Manufacturer and model:Acer model AO722
    Processor:AMD C-60 APU with Radeon(tm) HD graphics 100 GHz
    System type: 64-bit Operating system
    RAM: 2 gigs (1.73 usable)
    Hard drive: HDD 320GB 5400RPM SATA 2 8MB 2

Hope that helps, if there's anything else i should add please let me know.

There's still an uncountable number of things that could have been wrong/could be wrong to cause something like that. It sounds like you just got a couple bad harddrives. There could also be an electrical short somewhere inside, for example.

Dwarf Fortress is an entirely free, completely user-supported, indie world-building sim/roguelike.
It's all in ASCII, but there are user created tilesets to make it look better.
I have no idea what this thread is about, other than general discussion.

On a side note, i have an Acer AspireOne netbook that i downloaded this game onto. After about 5 days of playing, my hard drive completely crashed while the game was running. Wouldn't even go to system recovery. Luckily the warranty was still in effect, so it went back to the factory, where the hard drive was fixed. Got the netbook back, didn't redownload it, then a couple weeks later, it crashes again. Gets shipped back to tech support, and is on k
it's way back now. So my question is, what happened?

There's nowhere near enough detail in that paragraph to diagnose what happened. It could be any number of things.

I only had 2 gigs of RAM on it, did it just run out?

    No

    Was there a virus?

    Possible, but not likely.

And most importantly, if i download this game onto a USB stick, and it crashes, will my hard drive be affected?

It's highly unlikely that it would be.

TL; DR: After this game messes up my hard drive, can i play it on a USB stick without fear of more hard drive problems?

    Thanks.

You are assuming the game messed up your hard drive which is almost certainly not the case. Playing off a USB stick should be fine.

You can, but in my experience there's a tendency there for the tail to wag the dog. People want first and foremost a good game experience. There's nothing wrong with, say, wanting to do a particular game theme, or have particular characters, but you have to avoid overdoing it.

I happen to agree with Xyre. Not even that, but I find it much easier to work on the gameplay of the game with 'generic' flavored roles then after all that is done, figure out a flavor that can be fit.

I'll add that if Xyre, king of flavor, is advocating design before flavor, it's worth sitting up and taking notice.

Perhaps a werewolf that flips based upon the number of wolves or werewolves in play?

Pffft, you've seen nothing yet. I'm on the specialty list after all.

    This game is perfectly normal.

    EDIT

    Right, CCC time...

    NAME 3GR
    Creature - Human Werewolf

Whenever this creature enters the battlefield or transforms into ~, destroy all lands on the battlefield.

At the beginning of each upkeep, if no spells were cast last turn, transform Afflicted Deserter.

    2/2

    //

    NAME
    Creature - Werewolf

Whenever ~ attacks, it gains +1/+1 for each land on the battlefield.

At the beginning of each upkeep, if a player cast two or more spells last turn, transform Howlpack of Estwald.

    2/2

Hate to be a poo-pooer of ideas, but I'm not a huge fan of this. Destroy all lands at 5 is overpowerd and doesn't really fit flavorfully with the idea of a werewolf. Not only that, but once it's in play, if two spells are played in a turn, destroy all lands again. This card alone makes the game unfun and stalematey.

Updating With The New color tags and Moving the Old Signup threads to the Archive.
But if we are listing random things It would be great for have Mafia Sec to work on I would say Player Roster.

Yeah, plan to start that long and arduous process this weekend. I'm also considering (counter to what I thought before), adding closed sign-ups to the new sub and only moving them out if replacements are required as they also tend to clutter up the space. But maybe that's just my perception of things.

I think the Numbers are necessary. I don't understand why the new tagging feature stops us from Numbering Basics(HTML wizardry?)

Nothing stops you from numbering them, but the numbering will not get the same nice formatting as the "Basic" prefix. Yes, this is due to HTML wizardry. The prefixes are only there to denote specific thread types. If you go up to the search thread feature, you can now search by prefix. In this case, that means you'll eventually be able to search by game-type. If we were to create a new tag for every basic, not only would that become unweildy in the tool, it would screw up the search functionality too.
