The time has come for me to take my leave of the site. I no longer have the time nor interest level that I once did regarding mafia and this site in general. As such, I am also relinquishing my seat on the mafia council. To those of you that I've played with in the past, thanks so much because you're the ones that make this game fun. To those of you that I've never played with, I do regret missing the chance to get to know you as it is the community here that makes mafia what it is.
I may be back sometime in the future, but for now, *tips hat and walks out of door*.
There's been some confusion in regards to how the forum rules as a whole affect the mafia forum. I thought it would be good for me to make it more clear how we try to moderate this sub. The only rules in that are moderated a little more loose are Spam and Trolling/Flaming rules due to the nature of how the game of mafia is played. To be clear:
1) In games, these rules still apply. However, they are allowed more leeway with regards to carding than in other areas of the forum.
2) Outside of games, these rules are applied fully. This includes posts after a game has completed.
If there are any questions, please feel free to PM any mods of this forum or use our helpdesks.
What happens if that player is NKed or lynched, anyway?
Ah, see here's the difference between Avalon and mafia. In Avalon, players are not eliminated. Drey is correct in that you would have to mark them as VT. I might post a summary of the rules of the game later today after I get home. It is a mafia-varient without kills for 5-10 players. My gaming group likes it better than mafia because people aren't eliminated and get to keep playing through the whole thing.
As you can see, didn't put much thought in the proposal to borrow the role o_O.
I see. Is that the ONLY role that exists in the game besides the scum?
You can have additional roles, but for a pure experience:
3 mafia, 9 town (1 of which knows all the mafia members)
No role shenanigans, just pure mafia play.
EDIT: To be clear, I was originally mentioning the idea just as a cop/tracker/watcher investigative replacement. However, your question prompted a potential different idea.
In talking of making basics more streamlined, I'd like to propose a role that I haven't seen done in them before, but which I think (with experience in playing the game of Avalon) is a lot less swingy than cop/tracker/watcher type roles. The role is simply thus: one player knows who all of the mafia are. However, at the end of the game, if the town would win, the mafia gets one chance to guess who this player was. If they are correct, they win instead.
To the Council: I implore you to reconsider my queue restructuring proposal to size-based instead of complexity-based. TCM's Normal sign-ups have been open for over a month, now, and other games are still having serious activity issues despite the holidays having been over for half a month, now. In addition, the last Normal was abandoned, largely due to activity issues with the playerbase. I suggest we blur the line between Specialty and Normal due to the fact that the two are largely becoming indistinguishable anyway.
...and yet again, I am still in favor of it. We also now have a couple more months of proof that our current system isn't cutting it and normals don't have anywhere near the popularity they once did. Once again, I am willing to listen to proposals on how to fix this issue (something people kept insisting was a non-issue), but this proposal seems like the best course of action. Additionally, it should be noted that I am only but one member of the council; my voice does not speak for our entirety.
Down at the bottom left-hand side of the page, in the box labeled "Posting Rules", there is a link marked "Smilies". If you click that, it will bring you to a page: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/misc.php?do=showsmilies which has a listing of all available smilies.
My opinion on the hosting list is the same as it was (that we should move to requiring those signed up to host have a setup ready, not necessarily reviewed or what they end up running, just something). We haven't discussed the issue behind closed doors largely because there is no reason for us in the council to. Anywho, that's my two cents.
Alright, the populace has spoken. We will keep nested quotes as the default for the mafia sub as well as attempt to add a pineapple ... er, make them optional.
Recently, quoting inside the mafia forum was changed from the forum default to nested quoting. If you have a dog in this race, please vote on whether or not you want this feature to stick around. We're working on making the nested quoting optional, but until then, what should be this sub's default behavior?

I'm fine with it within reason. As long as every post in this forum doesn't suddenly become links to the godfather game, I don't see an issue with it.
In regards to a shadow system, :thumbs up:
