solforge recently made a jump. from giving out a miser's lot of tickets to join draft for free to play users, they are now giving out 1 ticket every day by winning a random online match. needing 7 tickets for draft but winning NINE if you 3-0, 5 if you 2-1 and 3 if you 1-2, its like one draft every 3 days if you split between 2-1s and 1-2s so i feel this is a good gaming experience to try out now and then if you think you like it, its a good game to sink your teeth into =)
Tried it a few months back. The technical side is well done, but I wasn't impressed by the game itself.
The main problem is that you discard your hand each turn and draw a new one. This almost entirely eliminates future planning. Unlike in Magic and most similar games, you can't plan something like, "I'll play this card now, follow it up with this other card next turn, and save this removal for later."
Without medium-term/long-term planning, the game loses most of its strategic depth.
Hello fnord!
If your familiar with arboris grove guardian, it's one of the legendaries that need for you to be at over 100 life for his effect to trigger.
There are 2 creatures great at giving you life - glow stride stag, which has a citp effect, and bright tusk cleric, which has an upkeep effect. I only have 1 arboris since he's so hard to get. But if I see a bright tusk cleric on my opening hand and not my arboris, I play the cleric immediately even if I have larger alternative creatures. Most of the time, I DO see the arboris in 1 or 2 turns
I also glow stride arboris on the same turn hehe
There's also death seeker, a 1/1 critter that when it dies, lays down a 5/5 token in its place. I usuallyut down two of that and then come back next turn with 2 cards requiring me to sacrifice. There are a ton out there. Cohesive deck will make each turn and draw combo out!
its a great magic clone, you can play offline, and you can try it out for free. they give out free draft entries over a couple of weeks, free cards via daily rewards and you can play against other players online. all for free if you just wanna try this game out.
its on ios and PC, and they are on alpha for android.

Legendary Creature - Human Soldier
~ can't be blocked by creatures of power 3 or greater.
Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, exile the top card of that player's library. You gain life equal to that card's converted mana cost. Until the end of the turn, you may cast that card and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast it.
2/2
from the PAX World Building Panel.
this plus a way to make it bigger and trample is not fair hahaha
How exactly will they inevitably power creep duals, gaea's cradle, karakas, etc.? I didn't realize this was the baseless speculation thread...
you just need some imagination
ok, actually sometimes people don't even see it coming.
yes, much of the dust has settled and wotc now knows what power limits are in cards, but who would've thunk that ernham djinn would be nerfed by imperiosaur?
did you ever see the alara tri lands come into being printed? will having enough "comes into play tapped" cards and a functional reprint of amulet of vigor make for a stable "comes into play tapped" deck? if it happened, the tri color lands could be better than duals. ok, not strictly better, but still.
would they print a card like
3uu
counter target spell. you may exile a multicolored blue card from your hand instead of paying cardname's mana cost.
yes force is not reserved but from survival to fauna shaman, you get the idea
What do you think? People said I was insane to sell my collection last September, at the height of Modern hype. What I sold lost 20% overall since then.
You shouldn't do what strangers on the internet say. Just follow your gut.
this is a lot like playing stocks.
TODAY your cards lost 20% of their value. but what happens when a modern pro tour is created?
although i agree with your last statement to just follow your gut. if that happens, no regrets.
you can look at it as glass half full instead of half empty
You realize that if they did do this, it would drive the overall price of legacy up. You would introduce a supply of many cards people want, but not ALL of the cards. That would make the reserve list cards that much more scarce, and drive the prices up due to increased demand but decreasing supply.
that's until they power creep the reserved cards out of playability.
WOTC does not support the Legacy format and unless they renege on their promise with the reserved list I can't really see a set like this anyways.
As for expensive uncommon staples it'll be interesting to see how the market reacts. It's a large set so I'm sure will be seeing some of them.
i just have to say that when wotc says they won't support legacy, i think that power creep is the only thing that we need to be worried about.
the more creep sets in, say when they reprint survival of the fittest thru fauna shaman and such, the more likely legacy staples will get reprinted one way or another.
im not saying shaman is anywhere near survival, but if creep goes up, its just all the more likely that they won'[t need to renege on their promise.
I haven't decided how I feel about this. At smaller costs, it will probably be outclassed by Honor the Pure (Unless there are +1/+1 or -1/-1 counter effects in Innistrad). At higher costs, you might rather attack than tap it to pump your creatures. The best part of this is probably that this can either pump up your creatures, or be fat, or both, and while it's not fantastic at either, either option will be available to you.
if the next block after inn is a return ot rav, they should bring back graft hahaha

wtf kinda wording is that? tap it?
this plus a way to make it bigger and trample is not fair hahaha
what a waste for an uncommon slot
you just need some imagination

which they will inevitably do.
wait for them to become modern legal
of course it wont happen im just saying wotc has the full power to say "you're modern legal but i won't print you"
they can dictate what price what cards will become.
if the legacy duals drop, imagine the backlash
what will be the assurance that your mindsculptor or tarmo will not follow suit?
they have something vested to protect and they will protect it
