What if the blue art is a new Planeswalker?

When a creature A deals lethal damage to creature B in combat, is creature B "destroyed" by creature A in the same way, say, Cobra Trap checks the source of a permanent's destruction?

That is to say, would a card like this trigger on lethal combat damage?

    Fighter 2G
    Creature - Monkey
Whenever Fighter destroys a creature, draw a card.

  • posted a message on Colored Artifacts?
    Quote from Devils Advocate
Colored artifacts only serve flavor purpose. Giving an artifact a colored mana cost defeats the point of it being an artifact (a tool any mage or planeswalker can make use of, regardless of his/her colors.) If you take that away, there's virtually no point in it being an artifact besides flavor.

I guess this is my gripe with the lack of colored artifacts; when looking at the flavor of the cards, there is no real explanation of why metal grafted onto Esper creatures makes them artifacts while metal grafted onto Mirrodin creatures doesn't.
I wasn't necessarily a big fan of colored artifacts in Shards block, but the inconsistency of introducing them and then ignoring them completely bothers me much more.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that there are 0 colored artifacts in this set?

Yet flavorwise, if we follow from Esper's criteria for colored artifacts, there seem to be a number of nonartifact creatures that could easily have been artifact creatures.

I really hope this is addressed on mtg.com at some point.

    Quote from Stroggoii
Imagine what white's schemes would be:

Oh, I'll just say you can't play this colour, none of you.
Oh, yeah and you can't play from the graveyard, in fact I'll remove your graveyards from the game.
Oh, and of course you cannot untap more than one creature per turn.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, all my creatures have haste, trample, first strike, vigilance, protection from red and from black.

You know what, I'd quit and go play against the zombies.

These actually seem like quite reasonable and fun effects. Shutting off a color for a turn doesn't completely neuter your opponents, nor does limiting them to untapping one creature, or the other effects you've hypothesized.

There does seem to be one "white scheme", with 'Choose Your Champion' but I agree with OP. A White scheme deck would've definitely been cool and catered to my playing style.

I only wish that Wizards was capable of putting together a blue deck for one of these promo items that wasn't based around artifacts. Slant

    Quote from Zeale
This is really wierd, I actually had that exact combo of cards. Magosi, Ob Nixilis, Rite of Replication (clone w/ kicker) and Sphinx of lost truth. I went 2-0, 2-0, 2-0, 1-2 (land flood TWICE, damnit), and 2-0. Took second place out of 32. Blue/black is fantastic with the right card pool.

I think there's a run here. I opened Ob Nixilis, Rite of Replication, Sphinx of Lost Truth as well! Same with another player at the prerelease with those exact same three rares.

I...believe him. Folks here are so quick to dismiss out-there ideas, but this seems like something Wizards might do and now that they have a monopoly on rumors, they can contain the secret, unlike the TS playtest fiasco.
I don't think he'd put his store and WoTC support on the line to support a random rumor and this syncs up with the other rumors that have popped up on here, along with the new section in the tournament rules about only being allowed to play with cards belonging to the set of the booster.
And it makes sense with 'Priceless Treasures...'

Put me down as a believer, and let's see how it goes after this weekend.

Looking at his posts, it seems like he could have been dyslexic? My girlfriend has dyslexia and she makes similar errors via msn or email messages.

But if he's been banned, I guess it's just spilled milk.

Seems like that they've been given an opportunity to put together a deck that interacts with its planes with all the cards of MTG to choose from and they've thrown together what is essentially, a Mirrodin Block Precon with Shards block sprinkled in. Just a total waste, especially if they're trying to make sales to anyone who played during Mirrodin and probably has all the cards anyway.

What do you guys think of Maindecking Great Sable Stag in this meta?

On the one hand, the mirror gets more use out of their sweepers so they may play better post-board anyway, but it seems like it would be useful in every matchup, except for Elves and maybe Kithkin. It holds off Leeches, ruins Faeries, uncounterable in the mirror and if Baneslayer Lark starts gaining popularity, it could be 3 damage a turn against them as well.

I've been playing this deck for awhile and I must say, if you've already got Pithing Needles in the side for Cascade Swans, then they should definitely be brought in against BW Tokens and GB Elves. Manlands can be a real problem in the GB matchup and shutting down their Treetops can take care of that. Against Tokens, shutting down their Windbrisks and their Ajanis slows them down a bit.
