dude.. u cant just post about a possible counterspell spoiled and then leave us hanging! feed me! what website!?!

It was from a vendor in Asia. Their facebook page often has the spoiler cards very fast. I saw it and then went to look if anyone was talking about it, I couldn't find discussion and then saw that they had removed the card image from the facebook feed.

Anyway, I was just wondering if others got a chance to see this? Could be fake, or leaked too early but I only got a quick look. Card seemed really cool.

The reason the card interested me is because the way the mechanic of the card worked. If you were on the draw and they T1 Thoughtseize you, you could play this card to counter it. Even if they have the mana to pay for it you could still "hide" your best card on top of your library. Seems really sweet.

I saw a card image for a blue counterspell in the Dragons set. It's exactly the same as Daze except instead of returning an island to your hand you put a card from your hand on top of your library.

The card was posted and quickly removed from the site. Everything looked legit so I'm wondering if he got asked to remove the early spoiler.

Remember this is for a control deck. I run Wraths and 4x Dreadbore main so I don't need my Dragon to kill opposing tokens or Walkers, I have other ways of dealing with that. What I need is a finisher that won't hit the field and immediately eat a Path. Granted I feel like I have a strong Abzan matchup so being weak to Path isn't really that big of a deal. Stormbreath is so much better than Thundermaw against U/W/r though especially with its Monstrous ability is also really good. Once it resolves there isn't much they can do to remove it save a sweeper. It also avoids the random Resto Angel being flashed in to block it.

I can't really think of any other matchup where Thundermaw offers me something that is so good that I'd rather have it over Stormbreath. Its going in a deck alongside Geralf's Messenger so I have the direct damage thing down, I just need a strong "drop it and ride" finisher and Stormbreath does that better than Thundermaw because of its protection from Path. Otherwise I think I'd rather have Sarkhan over Thundermaw because its more resilient there too. Sarkhan dodges all "Destroy Creature" effects and sorcery speed "Exile Creature" effects being weak only to Dismember and things which remove any permanent such as Maelstrom Pulse.

The only thing I can think of that would really sway my decision is Galvanic Blast and Flame Slash. Against those I would rather have Sarkhan. In a meta with more Path I would rather have Stormbreath. I really think Stormbreath is where I want to be.

Well it sounds like you've already made your decision. Stormbreath and Sarkham are much worse than Thundermaw in modern but whatever floats your boat.

He was also a bit salty as he said he could never shake hands with someone who uses Polar Kraken and Illusionary Mask in the same deck. Frown

I was playing at my local store and my opponent had a mana crypt in play. Everything was fine until I "flipped up" Polar Kraken with my Illusionary Mask and started releasing the Kraken on my opponent. Things are going smooth as silk until I get him down to 3 life. He goes for the Mana Crypt flip and the coin hits the table and is going to land on tails (he called heads), it's doing that thing where it's still hasn't stopped moving but will stay on tails and my opponent let's out a well-aimed sneeze. Blowing the coin from the table. I didn't think much of it until the next turn where the same thing happens and the sneeze seems more like forcefully blowing air at the coin.

I called a judge over and he told me I should have more sympathy for someone who is that sick and having a tough time and such.

Would you have called the judge? Is this considered cheating at lower REL?

Elvish Archers were also "good" aggro creatures along with Ironclaw orcs.

I'm currently trying the 4c version and Souls are awesome in this meta (yesterday they gave 2 games against Sultai that otherwise I wouldn't have won), they also make Boggles, Affinity, Infect and of course Junk a much better matchup.

Affinity and infect are great match ups for this deck you don't need souls to beat them. I don't see how souls is good versus bogles. You're still drawing dead unless you have main deck hallowed burial, engineered explosives, or cackling doom.

It gives you more game versus liliana, but people are shaving lilianas since she's bad versus everyone playing lingering souls.

Correct, Lingering Souls are not good against Boggles.

Especially for controlling decks, I generally tend to prefer Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker over both Stormbreath and Thundermaw because Sarkhan the Red can kill opposing creatures, which Stormbreath and Thundermaw can't (always) do. Thundermaw kills opposing flying 1/1's, sure, but what if you really need to off Deceiver Exarch, that 3/4 Goyf, an Ornithopter with a Cranial Plating, or that Blighted Agent?

I don't really buy this. Unless you are playing Relic or something, there is absolutely no way Goyf is 3/4 on turn 5. And Sarkhan misses everything else important in Junk, including Tas, Rhino, Souls tokens, and often Lilly (deals 1 less damage than Thundermaw, stonewalled by Spirits). Sarkhan killing Exarch is notable, but then he just dies to Bolt, Mite, Tiago, and/or Electrolyze. The Affinity example is also super corner case, although the Infect one is a little better.

Thundermaw seems like the clear winner right now. It can block and kill the average Goyf or Rhino/Tas, it kills Souls and then probably kills Lilly, and it kills Pestermites/Cliques. The only thing Thundermaw is soft to is Path, but Sarkhan also gets wrecked by PtE so that's not giving him any bonus points either. Stormbreath dodges Path and also probably connects with Lilly even against Souls (pro white), but on turn 5 it's not a kill on her if she already got up to 5 loyalty. Sure, she couldn't -2 to kill Dragon at that point (she'd be at 4 loyalty), but now you've committed 2 turns to killing her and still haven't affected any other aspect of the board.

    I agree with this analysis.

If you only have Standard cards for your modern deck than I would say Stormbreath Dragon, otherwise Thundermaw Hellkite.

If there are any BW tokens players in your meta Stormbreath is better. If it's just Junk and Esper, then Thundermaw has merit. I don't think Sarkhan is very effective compared to the other two.

Actually Thundermaw is much better against the token decks. You wipe their whole board when it enters the battlefield. They both end up dieing to Murderous Cut, Dismember, Go for the Throat, etc. So I prefer Thundermaw as a free one-sided wrath against tokens, also bigger.

That planeswalker goes in a creature-less control deck. It has no value in a faeries deck, not sure why anyone is even suggesting it.

Are there any good blue or white spells to give rebound to though? Can't think of any...
There are almost no white spells that you would want to rebound. Several blue ones though. Even Brainstorm and friends are nice to rebound, since they become pure card advantage (and help set up the top of your library for Narset's next turn). The real meat lies in red or black, so she is more like a Jeskai/Grixis hybrid than a pure Azorius card.

Rebounding a wrath means you get 2 turns of reprise. Rebounding Dig though Time or Treasure Cruise...nuff said

Wait, who told you a handshake means "congratulations"? Now we're just getting to new levels of absurdity. I don't think I've ever given a congratulations handshake. I've said "congratulations" but I don't think it was accompanied by a handshake.

I will offer the handshake, win or lose and say good game. If you freak out I will call a judge on you for unsportsmanlike conduct and then there can be a record of your childish behavior. Eventually a ban might keep you away from the polite and kind members of the MTG community.

Maybe if it would cost 5 and had hexproof.
For real, though. The best thing about the other Silumgar was that he had hexproof. Now they take that away and I just see little reason to play him.

I understand that a less good volition reins on a 3/5 flying deathtouch in a color of tribal that seems viable in standard is good, but then again so does simply casting Radiant Purge in response.

On the topic of UB fae, however. As mentioned this is WAYYYY to expensive for fae. Anything after 4 mana is not happening. It's bad enough we sometimes have to get to 5 mana to mistbind our mutavault.

I disagree that 5 and 6 mana spells are impossible. They just have to do the right things.
In this particular deck I find them to be improbable. Perhaps that was the word I should have originally chosen. Improbable.

You would be wrong then. People play Batterskull, sometimes maindeck, very often in the sideboard of U/B Faeries. Playing a Jace's Ingenuity would also be fine as a maindeck card draw spell. I'm sure there are plenty more.
