I vote to remove Rancor AND primal rage and replace them with the more thematic and quite possibly better Garruk Wildspeaker.
Reason being: it gives all of your little token dudes an overrun, AND you can proliferate counters onto him.
Also, I vote to add 3x Chord of Calling. With all the tokens this deck seems to want to make, we can get our big guys very easily and at instant speed.
I may be more spikeish, but i tend to build little infinite combos into all of my decks. My maga deck is a heavy control deck that can finish with leyline/helm but it rarely goes for it.
My Jenara deck CAN make infinite tokens via squirrel or mesacraft, or with opposition/intruder alarm, etc.
I guess the ones that dont have combos are creature based aggro (monowhite and 5c slivers) but i try to build the best decks i can given my card stock, and if that means adding silly combos just to see how many squirrels i can create in one turn so be it. then again...i've always been a Johnny at heart and LOVE stupid combos.
So yeah...Apparently nobody has decided to take on this possible diamond in the rough, so I figured I would give it a go. The deck is mono-red control, many board sweepers, big dudes, etc. It can also go lock-out with 3sphere, sphere of resistance and any armageddon effect.
Of course, Suggestions are welcome, but please explain why you would add/remove what you suggest. Thanks!
Not a question that is general, but one about odd generals.
The cards would be those creatures that flip into legendary creatures, think Ichiga Who Topples Oaks, Tok-Tok Volcano Born, Azamuki, Treachery Incarnate, Kenzo the Hardhearted, etc.
Are these even playable in EDH as they do not start off as legends? Or would we simply put them into play flipped? How would one work these?
I meant main protagonist. Through Time Spiral it was Teferi then it was Jhoira who is UR and Venser. Odyssey and Onslaught both had Kamahl as the main protoganist. Kamigawa has Umezawa..
Read the Ice Age books. I would say Jodah is quite the protagonist
Remember my statement from earlier. These cards are simply box toppers, they are NOT legal in the newer formats as they are not actually in the sets they are topping.
It would be like sticking a Force of Will as a box topper into a box of shards of alara. It would generate box sales, because even though we Vintage people don't buy a heck of a lot of product, we DO draft (at least the Vintage players I know do) and to draft...you need packs.
I agree that proxies are good and bad. Wasn't it Stephen Menendian that wrote an article for Starcity that alluded to the same idea? I believe he stated that the reason that proxies are actually hurting American vintage is that the prizes become pointless if you allow proxies, but at the same time proxies allow that barrier to entry to Vintage to lessen quite a bit.
I have been reading other threads, and it seems that the general consensus is that those of us who don't already own power, would like to find them at a cheaper price than what they're worth right now. The big question is how to go about doing this without devaluing the original power cards.
A buddy of mine and I were talking this over one day, and we came upon the idea of replacing the old box topper cards with foil, alternate art versions of type one and legacy staples.
Think about it: You have a "mythic" rare, and 5 "rare" foil cards per case, and the boxtoppers are only legal in the formats that the original card is legal in. They are NOT a reprint to be played in standard, as they are not in whatever set is printed.
So, the idea goes as such:
Mythic Rarity (ultra rare, ghost rare, whatever you wanna call it)
Black Lotus
5 Moxes
Time Walk
Timetwister
Ancestral Recall
Rare (5 per case (not the same card, just 5 box toppers in 6 are of this rarity)
Original Dual Lands
Force of Will
Mishra's Workshop
Bazaar of Baghdad
Mana Drain
Grim Tutor
obviously any other ideas would be great, but these are what I could think of off the top of my head.
So, the standard players can trade their foil, ultra rare boxtoppers to vintage/legacy players for stuff that they need, and everyone's happy.
There will be enough printed to to make people happy, and now all you vintage stalwarts can have your foil alternate art japanese black lotuses, etc.
Nah. When in white Baneslayer is clearly better. It has the same "deal with me or die" but provides bigger lifeswings in the meantime. And it costs two less. And it deals with opposing Serra Angels/Air Elementals/... The only point in favor of Platinum is the fact that several removal spells are Auras, but I'd still rather have Baneslayer.
There's no card in the set you should *never* pass. There rarely is. Off the top of my head, I can only think of Jitte (bla bla foil+non-foil version... that's just nitpicking).
There was a card that you should NEVER pass, I am referring to, of course, MASTICORE (not the razormane variety, the bomb diggity daddy urza's destiny rare) Jitte would be a very close second in that category.
Set dependant, i would agree with fireball, and pestillence (US/US/US draft, maybe US/US/UL too) as well as Ballista Squad in masques block (easily splashed, very good removal in a creature attack heavy draft format)
In M10? Urk, i think you have hit the nail on the head here, fireball and Platz are about the only cards i would take over everything...and im not even sure about platz, it DOES cost 7, and doesn't auto win you the game.
