My husband and I play casually - and this morning he had a deck that has Icefall Regent in it. He brought it out, tapped one of my creatures. My question is, can I then use something like War Flare to untap my creature for an attack? If so, once I attack with it, would it then stay tapped due to Icefall Regent still being in play?
Thank you everyone - this conversation has been very helpful. I was thinking this was a B/G deck, but stratus dancer just made me wonder if I could splash blue. Stratus dancer was a great card for me at pre-release (different pool of cards), so I was just trying to include it here. But I think it's more consistent without trying to force blue in there as well.
Which brings me to a question - is it generally better to try to limit to two colors when you can in limited?
So I think I'm a pretty bad deck builder. I picked up a Silumgar pre-release kit and I'm a bit lost at how to build this deck. It's supposed to be U/B, but it has some really good green, so... How to build it?
How can I not put green in for Deathmist Raptor and possibly Temur War Shaman? Do I cut blue? But I think Stratus Dancer is really good as well. What would you do with this pool of cards?
I went Saturday at noon and went 2-2. So not spectacular, but not the worst either. I picked Ojutai hoping I could get a few good cards with rebound. Nope, not meant to be. My promo was stratus dancer. I pulled another in one of my packs, then Dragonlord Dromoka and whisperwood elemental. With some help from other players my deck ended up green/blue with a splash of white for Dromoka. And I mean a splash - he was the only card I had that needed white mana. Luckily enough, I was always able to play him when I had him in my hand. One of the highlights for me was using Whispering Elemental to manifest stratus dancer, not once but twice. And then being able to flip him over to keep him from sacking dromoka. I still ended up losing that round due to a really dumb mistake on my part. But it was a fun game anyway.
The other highlight was my opponent played a Sunscorch Regent. I played quite a few creature cards (megamorph actually) pumping him way up, then sacked him with a reality shift. A bit of a risk, cause he could have manifested a better card, but he didn't. Next turn I flipped my Monastery Loremaster grabbed Reality Shift, sacked his remaining flyer and swooped in with my flyers for the win.
One thing - either I am a really slow player, or I don't know what, but I was only able to finish one game each round. The second game always went to 5 turns.
So to answer your question of what we make of the kids behavior - I have a different point of view. The kid might be autistic. Kids that are on the spectrum generally are a stickler for rules. If the rules say X, then you do X. And he may not have have known the rules for pre-release were different. And he perseverated on it (which is a tendency for autistic kids). Plus they have no social skills. I'm a mom to a kid on the spectrum, and we work continuously on things like turn taking. Not to mention things like not saying "you're a looser" when you win.
This is just conjecture - I wasn't there. And he could just be a jerky awkward kid.
I definitely made many newbie mistakes - like tapping my opponents creature and then not attacking. yup, I did that. :). That's where practice will help - but we don't get to play much with a four year old. Although I do hope that I will be able to take him to a pre-release when he's old enough.
Thanks everyone for your feedback. This will hopefully help me with building my next deck.
Pretty much after we got home and talked about it, I realized that both of the Lightforms should have been in. As for why I didn't win any games - I just didn't have any luck that day. With all the games that I played that day, I never once drew Warden of the First Tree. Although I did win a for fun game against my second opponent. So it wasn't all bad. Considering it was the first time that I had ever played anyone other than my husband, I'm ok with how I did.
I'm a pretty new player (only ever played some duel decks with my husband). We unexpectedly had the chance to go to the Fate Reforged Pre-release last weekend. (We have a 4 year old, so we generally don't get to do these types of things). Anyway, we both lost all of our games (but still had a lot of fun playing!). I was hoping to get feedback on the deck I built as we don't have any friends that play to help us in that area. I picked the Abzan clan and stuck to the white/black/green color in my deck. I figured that would be easiest for a first time. I don't just need to know that I should have played x instead of y - but I need to know some of the why behind the cards you would have chosen. I appreciate any feedback you can provide!
I know I didn't play the fetch land - but it only had one of my colors. Also, I don't know if you play that instead of a land or instead of a spell. I'm also wondering if I made the right call in sticking with my Azban colors. Anyway, any and all feedback is welcome! I want to learn to build decks so I at least have a chance of winning a game next time!
I'm a newbie player. Actually, I've known about the game since '95, but never really had anyone to play with. Then life got in the way. Recently my husband and I decided to finally take the plunge with some duel decks. I've also been playing a bit of duels of the plainswalkers 2015.
Being brand new to actually playing, we went to the pre-release this past weekend. We both lost (and had to duck out before all the rounds were over since we have a 4 year old at home). Even though we both lost all our games, we had a good time.
I do want to get some feedback on the deck I built - where is the best place to post about that? And would it better to show a couple of pictures of all the cards I had to choose from? Or list out all the cards?
Thanks!
By the way, what does u/w mean? I ran into the acronym in another thread and haven't been able to fine what it means.
Thanks for any help!

Edited - Sorry I was having posting issues.
