First, I've never posted here on MTG Salvation, so if this is the wrong place for this question, please direct me to where I can post it. Thanks!

I started playing when Magic was released way back in the day, but had to stop playing as there was no efficient way to play online, and there was no possibility of playing locally. I've been back for about two months, have a complete playset of Khans, and most of Theros, Gods, and Journey. My older collection was based around what generally did well in tournaments (the last that I attended was the "PTQ" in 98/99), so it's a hodge-podge of cards from Alpha to I think the Rath/Tempest blocks (or around there). Trying to build a modern deck is a bit hard, as nearly everything I have is from the current Standard or Legacy/Vintage, so all the goodies over the past decade are things that I need to pick up where I can.

I've been doing very good with running a Standard Whip deck, generally having a better-than-average win rate against all decks at my local gathering, with the exception of one deck: mono-green hydra "counters". I've won 1 out of about 50 games against this damned deck, and no one at the local FNM group has been able to beat it. It basically gets a bunch of hydras with counters, that double whenever another hydra attacks, turns lands into big stompies, and produces hydra tokens that also tend to get very big. Once it hits about 6 mana, the game gets very ugly. Eventually it plays a creature that prevents the player's life total from going above/below 7, so without hard removal, the game just goes on until either it swings at you enough to kill you, or until someone runs out of cards.

The only win that I've been able to get so far was to use Polymorphist's Jest to turn all of it's creatures into 1/1 blue frogs just as it would swing for game, then use Bile Blight to kill them all and try to deal enough damage to kill it before it gets more creatures out. But this is only if I get lucky and get Bile Blight + Polymorphist's Jest in hand with lands enough to give 1UUBB (so, turn 5, assuming I get the lands played by that time). I was thinking of throwing a few of my old Spike Cannibals in there, but those aren't legal in Modern.

So what are your opinions on surviving and beating this kind of deck, community?

Edit: Can't post links, but the deck generally runs these:

    Ramp:
    Karametra's Acolyte
    Elvish Mystic
    Voyaging Satyr

    Big Fat Stompy Monsters
    Elderscale Wurm
    Mistcutter Hydra
    Polukranos, World Eater
    Kalonian Hydra
    Garruk, Caller of Beasts
    Renegade Krasis
    Phytotitan
    Primeval Titan
