Hey folks, so I'm still running a Finkel list but lately I've been noticing more people at my LGS have been playing Abzan CoCo/Kiki Chord and I've been kind of lost on how to sideboard against them as well as the Fish players (though I honestly think Fish may just be a bad matchup and the way I sideboard for it is only half the problem).
Do you guys think it's worth it to switch our non Tarn fetches away from Deltas so that the Bx Eldrazi deck can't use our any of our lands with out an Urborg or is the minor edge of being able to pretend to be one of the Grixis decks or a Twin deck on turn 1 against other decks worth it?
@lordoftheshadows thanks for the feedback I will try your suggestions ay my LGSs next week
For Jund I was thinking about taking out a Scour or the Ravings but taking out a Grapeshot makes more sense. I was mostly concerned about the Lilis, at the time. And while value Grapeshotting them away is a decent play, I realise now that the chances of us having the spell density to do so before they start stripping our hand is pretty low.
Against burn in previous weeks I kept naturally drawing too many 4CMC cards (either double PiF or a Empty with a PiF without enough rituals) and wishing that they were anything else. Though in all my games, this week and previous, I feel like burn has just had a faster draw than me. But this could be me not realising I have other lines I could take given I've only been playing Storm for a only couple of months.
Any thoughts on my previous and intended updates to the sideboard?
How do you tag a card from a core set with a year? i.e. Lightning Bolt I've tried "M11," "Magic 2011," "Magic 2011(M11)," "Magic: the Gathering Core Set-2011" and "Magic: the Gathering- 2011." I've had the same problem with Scooze, and Grim Lavamancer (M12).
My LGS had matches today and I changed the sideboard to have the Volley over Dismember and I changed the Echoing Truth to a Shatterstorm. Though now that I think about it I might want that to be another Spree because Affinity is kind of not a thing and Chalice is a bigger concern for me since anyone can side it in and I think I have enough random splash to hit Affinity if someone were to show up with it.
Anyway here's how my matches went:
Match 1 Jund:
Game 1- I'm on the play and he does nothing his first turn after I cantrip. I actively run my Ascension into his Decay on turn 3. I have the turn 4 kill.
Game 2- He goes Inquisition into Thoughtseize into Lili then lands a Bob then finds a Choke but he can't find a second beater soon enough and when at 7 life sacrifices his Bob to Lili then finds a late Scavenging Ooze with me at 3 life. But the next turn I make 8 Goblins and an Goblin Electromancer and he scoops. In my opinion he scoops a bit early considering he could top deck a bolt or a kill spell to get his Ooze though and make me sac a defender with his planeswalker. I got pretty lucky.
Match 2 Burn:
Game 1- Turn one Goblin Guide. Turn 2 Eidolon and I don't have the Grapeshot to kill it soon enough.
Game 2- I Bolt an early Lavamancer which I probably could have saved then get locked out by an Eidolon and get Bolted to death.
Match 3 Grixis Control
Game 1- I start off slow but he has no pressure. By turn 5 I have a Goblin Electromancer on board and purposefully run my two Pyromancer Ascensions into Mana Leak and SnapMana Leak but find myself a mana short and just Grapeshot for 10 killing his Snap. Next turn I flashback one of the two Past in Flames in my grave and kill from there.
Hey I'm pretty new to Storm and playing constructed in general. I picked up this deck a few months back and have been playing at my LGSs on and off and I love it*.
My mainboard is pretty stock (Finkel) with the exception of the lands because I only have one Scalding Tarn. I also run a Bloodstained Mire over the 7th blue fetch and it's been working for me really nicely.
I took out a Shatterstorm because I wasn't seeing any Affinity the past few months though I might put it back in because I saw a few people play it last week. The Spree is for Chalice from the Tron deck I've seen quite often. Anger hits Fish which everyone keeps talking about at my main LGS and the splash for Affinity. I might take out the Echoing Truth(s) for Volley(s) because Twin is big around here, hence the Dismember. I don't have any Moons or Grids yet.
These numbers definitely need tweaking (and I probably need to get better at sideboarding). So if you could help that would be great.
If you want to hear about my matches from last week I have brief notes about them but can't remember how exactly I sideboarded.
So I too am interested in using Altar of the Brood as an only win con. But what are the main concerns when using it? I get that it's a win more card if you're running additional wincons. But at that point are we more concerned with milling ourselves or is it more of a time constraint problem or is it the fact that running Conjurer's Bauble means there's less synergy with our Ironworks.
Right now my sideboard looks like:
But if I were to go to a tourni it would probably have an extra Moon over a Dispel and another Shatterstorm over an Anger.

Game 2- He starts off with a Creeping Tar Pit. I cast Sleight of Hand. He says land go. I cast Serum Visions. He goes Blightning I discard Dispel and a land. While he's tapped out I Empty the Warrens for 10 goblins which is 7 too many for him to handle.
Final record 2-1
