The card itself is nice, but the flavor is strong with this one.
Well, for those who were expecting an "Unmake" spell, you weren't wrong at all.
I'll try this deck... I run a similar deck focusing on pumps...
Only if you're running a deck with 4 Myth Realized and 56 plains.
The fact this can hit Goblin Rabblemaster is really something. Devouring Light was unrealiable. Reality shift was good, yes, but leaves a 2/2 body behind. Anyways, good news for those who wants to go U/W or mono W control.
I'm currently toying with this build on MTGO. From what I've tested so far, this deck can score a turn-3 KO. But the list is far from consistent. So, I'd like you to help me out:
Core Pieces
Token Makers
- 4 Raise the Alarm
- 4 Triplicate Spirits
- 2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
(I'm using 2x Mardu Hordechief instead of Brimaz due to budget reasons )Anthems
- 2 Spear of Heliod
- 2 Dictate of Heliod
With the help of Springleaf drums, Dictate of Heliod can be cast earlier than normal.Other Creatures
Spells
3x Devouring Light
Sample List:
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Selfless Cathar
4 Raise the Alarm
4 Triplicate Spirits
2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
2 Spear of Heliod
2 Dictate of Heliod
4 Soldier of Pantheon
2 Eidolon of Countless Battles
3 Devouring Light
4 Temple of Enlightenment
20 Plains
Drop threats, pump them with Anthems and swing for the win. The deck is linear, aggressive, and runs out of gas quickly. I've dealt 20+ damage because of Selfless Cathars. Stellar in the aggression, they can also be sac'd for protecting your dudes against Scouring Sands (but not anger of the gods or bile blight). Either way, I think there's some potential here. Some advices are needed.
Sideboard Options:
Abzan Advantage / Erase
Ephemeral Shields ---- USEFUL in conjunction with Ornithopter + 1st Drop -> for preventing those 1st turn kills that can destroy your tempo (Wild Slash)
4 Favored Hoplite
4 Lagonna-Band Trailblazer
4 Akroan Skyguard
3 Seeker of the Way
4 Fabled Hero
2 Dawnbringer Charioteers
4 Defiant Strike
4 Gods Willing
4 Feat of Resistance
2 Launch the Fleet
17 Plains
4 Radiant Fountain
2 Ordeal of Heliod
2 Dawnbringer Charioteers
1 Glimpse of the Sun God
1 Spear of Heliod
2 Launch the Fleet
1 Vanguard of Brimaz
2 Banishing Light
2 Erase
2 Devouring Light
Here, a more expensive version (4 Hero of Iroas), but with Heliod's Pilgrim toolbox.
4 Hero of Iroas
3 Heliod's Pilgrim
1 Lotus-Eye Mystics
3 Seeker of the Way
4 Akroan Skyguard
Auras
1 Eidolon of Countless Battles
3 Ordeal of Heliod
1 Sage's Reverie
1 Oppressive Rays
1 Gift of Immortality
Instants
4 Defiant Strike
1 Valorous Stance
1 Feat of Resistance
4 Gods Willing
1 Ajani's Presence
4 Radiant Fountain
2 Banishing Light
2 Erase
3 Glare of Heresy
1 Ordeal of Heliod
1 Ajani's Presence
2 Launch the Fleet
2 Dawnbringer Charioteers
1 Vanguard of Brimaz
Sage Reverie is a great addition (albeit with a expensive converted mana cost) for mono W because its one of the few cards that can draw more than 1 card.
If you can afford it, Monastery Mentor seems like an auto include for the deck. I'll run it alongside Phalanx Leader for better results.
I know, Dragon Throne of Tarkir has a steep cost and is mega-slow to activate, but the reward of activating it is oddly satisfying.
I chose the Token route because they benefit the most from +x/+x Anthem effects.
Without further ado, the deck:
1 Spear of Heliod
4 Oreskos Swiftclaw
4 Temur Charger
4 Alpine Grizzly
4 Triplicate Spirits
4 Aven Skirmirsher
4 Sunblade Elf
2 Dragonscale General
4 Blossoming Sands
2 Evolving Wilds
8 Forest
10 Plains
Sideboard could contain Suspension Field / Banishing Light.. stuff like that. Arashin Cleric for lifegain.
You can also go white/red. In red you have access to burn, Gore Swine and Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient, which can often double the Throne's buff.
Thoughts? Opinions?
Hypothetical playtest, providing the opponent does nothing to interfere with your gameplan:
Turn 1: Forest, Sunblade Elf
Turn 2: Plains, Attack for 2. Pass. EOT, Raise the Alarm
Turn 3: Land, Alpine Grizzly, Attack for 4.
Turn 4: Land, Dragon Throne of Tarkir, Attack for 8.
Turn 5: Land, Alpine Grizzly seats on the Throne, and gives +4/+4 and trample to three creatures. Attack to end the game. That's cute for a $5 deck.
