Hello, I'm looking for some critic on my Prime Speaker Zegana deck. A link to it is below:

    http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/17-04-15-prime-speaker-zegana/

The deck runs on the idea of trying to keep myself in a generally favourable position through spot removal, card draw and mana ramp. It keeps up that pace until the deck either reaches a point when I draw an overrun effect and can use it effectively or I can attack effectively without the overrun effect.

One of the main ideas that I was encouraged by when I made this deck was the use of clone cards. The clones can be used in two ways, the first is to clone either my own or my opponent's creatures thus filling up my field and also triggering some of my more useful ETB effects. The second way they work is through Zegana as the secondary source of card advantage, I clone her then kill off the token with the legendary rule but I still draw a nice new hand of cards from the cloned Zegana's effect. The main inspiration of this idea though is for a fun factor, I wanted something that could be fun without ruining the fun for the other players in the game.

I don't have many concerns with this deck I've been refining it a lot with help from a lot of people but I felt it couldn't hurt to go ahead and get some more people to have a look at it before I buy it. Thanks guys.

On a side note I have not included a mana base yet, that is a very low concern of mine as I'm quite certain that I can fill that spot out on my own but if anyone wants to throw out suggestions I'll hear them.

Hello, I'm going to link my tappedout page with everything in it, I hope that you guys can help me improve on the deck.

There is a description within that you can reference for a general overview but I'd be more than happy to answer questions. In general though I'm trying to find out if this deck is any good, how political it can be and if it looks like a fun deck or not.

    Thanks kindly all.

To be honest I was tired and forgot those were an option for me until just now haha. I did a lot of playtesting with Nantuko and Hexmage who are my two favourites however I can't decide between the two, they both are so useful. I also binned my Diabolic Servitude in favor of a Diabolic Tutor, I think that was a solid swap.

I'm very conflicted about these last picks, call me fussy but I enjoy a nice clean mana curve and it would annoy me to run more four drops and muck that up.

Thanks so much you two for all the effort in your comments, I had intended to reply to each point individually however given the scale I thought I'd just summarise my feelings and show you what I've come up with. So I really like black, yeah. I was thinking long and hard when I was deciding what colour my first vintage deck would be since it would invariably be the basis for any future decks. So with that said I decided some staples would be good investments and not possible dead cards, cards like Volrath's Stonghold, Demonic Tutor and Necropotence are all going in. I also took to heart a lot of what you guys were saying regarding my creatures picks, powerful draw spells, instant win combos and powerful non-basic land.

What I've come up with this my basic idea of what I think would be good based on the suggestions you guys have given. It's a tad pricey though I can afford it next week which is good so I'd like to hear what you guys think about it.

You might notice that I'm short two cards, I was unsure what to put in given that my deck's mana curve is starting to look a little jolty if that makes sense. I'm not insanely comfortable with a jolty or a wonky mana curve so I could use suggestions on what to do with my last two card slots along with general feedback. Thank so you much again guys, especially Prid3 for all the effort you put in.

So starting off, thank you so much for helping, I was beginning to think that I'd never hear anything.

I totally agree on the Demonic Tutor and Mana Vault picks, I've found in my play testing that Innocent Blood is a good pick for the mean time but something that I would absolutely swap out for stronger cards. With that in mind I'd probably drop the four Innocent Blood and one Mind stone then add a Demonic Tutor, Mind Vault and Mutilate, following that I'd use the last two spots based on how I felt the deck ran after that. I love the Necropotence pick too however I'm holding off on that one for the mean time since I did just fork out $50 on Japanese deck boxes haha. The same goes for Demonic Tutor and Mana Vault since I just can't afford them now. Make no mistake though I can absolutely see the benefit of the swap and will probably do it inside a few weeks.

I'm hesitant to run much spot removal though, the meta where I live employs mass heavy creatures, everyone does it and single target removal just isn't very effective outside of standard. The most common plays I see which include spot removal usually involve some kind of creature coming into play, Scourge of Valkas for example. On another note I'm also hesitant to run Dark Ritual, initially when I started play testing this deck I ran it for a short while and it almost always didn't help, it just came at inopportune times or was only slightly useful. A card I am considering and could use some advice on is Volrath's Stronghold, I thought an extra graveyard revival might be very useful in a pinch even with the price tag. I can also see myself running this in other decks if I rotate because of how useful it is so it seems like a solid investment though I could use a second opinion.

Another thing I considered was dropping to 23 lands since I often get mana flooded, I also thought about Cabal Coffers but I don't know if it will work very well with my Ghasts, so I could use advice on those picks too. Thanks again I really appreciate the help.

    Edit:
I just saw your Leyline of Obedience comment and that is the funniest combo I've ever seen, I'm absolutely going to sideboard that in just for if I'm getting annoyed at my friends however I won't mainboard it because it could ruin the fun a bit. After all what is multiplayer for if not fun.

    No one? Any thoughts?

Starting off I'd like to explain how the deck plays, first the deck tries to slow the opponent's early game via sacrifices and efficient creatures whilst speeding up my own early game with mana rocks. Towards the mid game I try and get one of my big hit combos out. The first is a combination of Crypt Ghast and Exsanguinate to do enormous direct damage to my opponents and the second is devotion based with Grey Merchant of Asphodel. Overall this deck is designed for and will be used almost exclusively in multiplayer games so I think I have a good set up to keep me alive for the long game however I always have doubts.

So I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about my deck, please understand that I can't afford anything over $15 however I'd take the suggestions happily and note them down for the future. Thanks kindly.
