Right, the artifact lands would be purely for enabling metalcraft. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I said that in my last post. Good call on Pentad Prism though, it sounds like a strong addition. Since I'm not a very good deck builder, would you have any ideas for a brew that we could try putting together? Anything I came up with wouldn't be very good but I'm definitely willing to try a version of it!

I like the idea, although I don't know if Mycosynth Wellspring is good enough. It's still card advantage + color fixing and deck thinning though, so it might work. We'll have to test Metallic Rebuke to see if at the very worst it's basically a Mana Leak, as being a 3CMC soft counter it's not the best worst case scenario. Blue also opens up Gearseeker Serpent and Bastion Inventor as finishers.

Red offers the Lightning Bolt + Galvanic Blast combo which deals with anything up to Gurmag Angler, on top of Kuldotha Rebirth which destroys a Wellspring in the process while generating three bodies, which is a lot of card advantage for such a cheap cost. Plus you can never go really wrong with a counterburn deck, do you?

Finally, a third color could be considered thanks to Mycosynth, but it shouldn't be a main color. Something like Black for Bleak Coven Vampires and some Flashback cost + sideboard options should suffice.

Thanks for the ideas, Zephyr! I guess you're right about Metallic Rebuke, we have to make sure the critical mass of artifacts is enough to make it worth it. Luckily, I think with the artifact lands it can work. I also planned on red for Galvanic Blast.

The main reason Mycosynth was in the deck is because I wanted to get some value out of sacrificing permanents to Perilous Research. Are there any better options for that? Also, if we start sacrificing artifacts for both Perilous Research and Kuldotha Rebirth, is that enough to get green in it for Fangren Marauder?

Hey all, I am not really an active poster on these forums (usually I lurk) but I wanted to bring up a collection of cards that I am interested in brewing with, because I haven't seen them put together in this way yet. Please keep in mind, I am not a strong deck builder, so this may not lead to anything of value. These are the cards I'm interested in:

The wellsprings + perilous research would allow for a strong card advantage engine, while Mycosynth Wellspring would help you play multiple colors. With the printing of Metallic Rebuke (and Improvise in general), the wellsprings could be used to generate mana. Use of other artifacts / affinity creatures / removal in other colors could lead to an interesting control deck. Anyone think this could be a good idea? I'm looking for input. Thanks!

So guys, I know this has probably been brought up before, but I'm making this thread to discuss the possibility of sanction pauper events in paper magic.

    *****WARNING*****
This post is only based off of a "friend of a friend" type of rumor. I know that it's unlikely to be true, but it caught my interest so I'm posting about it anyway. Please don't hate me for my lack of credible sources, as that's what baseless speculation is all about!
    *****WARNING*****

Now that that's out of the way... I have a friend who knows a high level judge. High level judge that is flown around to big events, that kind of thing. According to him, his high level judge friend said sanctioned pauper matches are coming to paper magic. Is it true? No idea. Is my source credible? Not really. Could he be BSing me? Yea, duh. Regardless, I found the idea interesting. What do y'all think? Would you guys like to see paper pauper tournaments? Do you think this could actually be a thing that's happening?

I know that it's been a while for this thread, but I don't see any other discussion about Pauper Slivers. Is this deck still viable for the current meta? I'm looking for another pauper deck (not delver) and slivers caught my eye.

I have a question for the Delver players... Has anyone tested out mana denial in delver? I know it wouldn't be good vs some decks, but it does generate tempo to bounce lands, especially if you're swinging with a delver when you do it. It's also a strategy that Legacy delver uses with Stifle although our options aren't as powerful. The two main cards that I can see to stall / deny lands are Boomerang and Hoodwink. Like I said, I'm just curious if people have tested this before. If it's worthless, lemme know, but it seems to me that it could be good. Any opinions? Smile

My apologies for the double post, but I have renewed interest in testing this deck. I was wondering if anyone who still plays this deck could post me an updated sample list? I'm looking for a good place to start for the current meta, but I'm not sure what's good any more. From what I understand this is where I should start:

    4x Crypt Rats
    4x Gnaw to the Bone
    4x Songs of the Damned
    4x Monstrous Carabid
    4x Street Wraith
    4x Architects of Will
20-23x Land (this part I can probably figure out)

Where essentially Crypt Rats / Gnaw / Songs is ultimately the win condition. I know that I need more cycling creatures and stuff like that, but what are some other good card choices for the meta? I'm just not experienced enough with this list. Any help with main deck / sideboard cards would be awesome. Thanks guys <3

Containment priest isn't even good against Delver, which is a gigantic behemoth of the meta now thanks to Treasure Cruise. A sideboard only card isn't exactly going to be dominating formats, let's get serious here.

It's rather insane to think this card will be a problem compared to actual offenders like Treasure Cruise and, well, Delver of Secrets itself. Delver's printing was an awful mistake and it remains one.

    QFT

Treasure Cruise needs a banning in multiple formats. It isn't fun to play against and it's powerful enough to be warping almost every format, especially modern and legacy. I play 1 in my UB Teachings deck in pauper, and I feel like I win every single game that I cast it. I would be happier if it was banned from pauper, even though I currently use one.

To remain on topic: Since Containment Priest doesn't currently hate on the big cruise decks, I feel it won't be nearly as devastating to legacy as some think. It basically only hates on combo decks, and we all know how Wizards feels about combo right now. If anything is gunna cause enough problems to get banned, it'll be Cruise, not Containment Priest.

Another interesting note: This card gives a lot of incidental hate towards dredge without interacting with the graveyard. It won't stop bridges from making tokens, but it'll stop them from getting creatures out of the yard to make tokens with. Incidental hate against dredge is always a good thing imo.

Cool, that's what I thought would happen. Thanks Smile if I think of any other weird ones I'll ask here.

What formats are the commander cards legal in? Is it only Legacy and Vintage, or are they also legal in Modern?

I have a question about this card and legacy... How does Containment Priest interact with Dryad Arbor? It's a creature, but a land, so are you "casting" it when you play it from your hand? Also, am I correct to assume that it would stop people from using fetchlands to grab their Dryad Arbor?

It also stops Natural Order and Aether Vial, so that's cool.

I've also been doing some research and I think Hungerstriker is correct. Siding in Maul Splicer and Duress looks like the best option. Maul Splicer is good against all of our removal except Crypt Rats and Duress hits all but 4 of our non-land cards. The earliest that Teachings can tutor up and cast Crypt Incursion is turn 5, so take the counters and try to combo by then (If the deck can combo that early... I don't know how fast it is). If they draw it naturally your Duress can just take the Crypt Incursion instead.

So, basically, do what Hungerstriker said.

Sorry to double post, but I have some info to report. Up until now, I would win games every once in a while with this deck, but never a full match. Yesterday, after reading your advice, I went 2-0 against MBC and 2-0 against a mono red tron deck. I also went 1-0 against RUG tron, but my wife's birthday was yesterday and I had to leave in the middle of game 2. I was stabilized, had the engine running, and everything was set up for me to win. MBC and RUG tron are two decks that I've lost miserably to before. Thanks a lot, obZen, for the deck list and the help with play decisions. It has helped a lot and I finally feel ready to do some actual daily events with the deck. Let me know when you get your UB Teachings guide up, if you're still working on it :).

Hey thanks for the quick response :). Those are definitely some good tips. I have a history of playing control in Magic, but I have never played with Mystical Teachings before this. I do also have some specific questions.

    1. Is it correct to Teachings for card draw if I'm not under a lot of pressure?
    2. You say to Teachings for your next play. Does that mean I should usually cast Teachings if I don't have another card to cast, even if I could wait for more information?
    3. In terms of using Grim Harvest, should I try to always wait until I can pay for the recover cost before I put it at risk of getting exiled? This is the card that I'm the least sure about using. I know it's powerful, but I just haven't used anything like it before.

I'll probably have more questions, but that's all for now :). Thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it.
