A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

When I got back into Magic sometime between M14 and Theros, one of the first things I did was rebuild an old Necro deck that was still mostly together. After doing some looking at new to me cards on Gatherer, I made some changes and the end result has really annoyed a lot of my friends to the point that I only play the deck maybe five times a month because it's just not fun to be on the losing end of it.

My first addition to the deck was Sanguine Bond because I thought if the Library of Leng lets me pick up as much as I want (assuming I have the life to do it) and the Ivory Tower gives me life for the cards in my hand, why not deal damage for the life I gain off the Tower. That led me to searching out lifelink creatures, but it really came together when Theros came out and gave me the Whip of Erebos.

I'd like to find a better two drop than the Black Knight but the first strike is nice early game. Originally I had four Black Knights because they're an old school black staple, but the Nantuko Shade looked like it would fit and be a good mana dump on the attack or block.

The deck is nimble and quick enough to win easily without any of the combo hitting the board. But when the full combo is out, it gets pretty crazy.

I love standard and play in pre-releases and the occasional FNM, but the kitchen table is where it's at for me and I love decks like this. It was fun to build and I can proudly say I didn't netdeck it or any of my decks (as long as you don't count the old Necro/Ivory Tower/Library of Leng combo... but I got that out of a magazine back in 1995).

I'd love to hear feedback on it or any suggestions. I'm perfectly pleased with the way it works now, but would be open to anything for the two drop spot to replace Black Knight.

    Thanks for looking.

I've been running a fairly similar deck for about fifteen years. Mine runs four Sandstalkers and two Sandscouts. I do like Glitterfang but I dumped them in favor of Goblin Arsonist.

You use more bouncy creatures than I do but the basic premise is the same. I think if my deck went against yours it'd be a fun game. Mine wins probably seven out of ten games.

It looks like a fun deck.
