I've had a 'God Pack' of Worldwake once, of sorts: Instead of Uncommons I got an Abyssal Persecutor, Lodestone Golem, and Death's Shadow with a Jace for my 'rare' slot Smile Still had the commons and token, not that it mattered that much that day hehe.

Possibly to deal with situations where both Borborygmos are in play, this specifically says which deals the damage. There could be rules issues that come up if that is not specified I guess. Although, your argument is certainly very valid as well.

I'm inclined to agree with you, Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius has the same templating of the full name in the card text below.
edit: just citing a very current example, Akroma is an excellent case point, too.

the_cardfather hit most of the points I was gonna type up; like I told my friends who were worried about the servers shutting down, by the time that happens MtG is most likely dead in the water and WotC being liquidated to Uwe Boll Entertainment or something equally Not Good™ so it wouldn't matter much to me at all.

Regarding the new client, though, it can definitely give you a more in-tune perspective on the online experience, to see if that helps or hinders your decision to drop paper, or at least in my case extremely minimize it, or if you'd rather just play something else entirely. When I first got into MTGO I hated the client interface, and while it's grown on me it has done so only begrudgingly on my behalf. I do enjoy the new client quite a bit (it's in Wide Beta so if you guys wanna give it a whirl it's a free download), there's a few quirks that they really need to hammer out (like what the heck is up with all these damn pop-up windows to do different things like chat? just give me one dang window with everything in it so I can alt-tab like a sane man again!) but there's a lot of good to it which I think will help sell the idea of gaming with that interface for those who are thinking of dropping paper altogether.

I'll never fully give up paper though, 99.9% sure, but I'm still keeping and tweaking 2 decks (Thrax-EDH and my Legacy Enchantress), everything else can take a hike on eBay Smile Selling a few cards today in fact to pay for more drafts Grin

dave78pdx, take heart man... the memories were good, the gaming was fun, but if you still love the game at its core at least now you will have a venue through which you can enjoy it. It's literally 10x easier for me, speaking from a conscience-POV and financially, to start in an event draft at 11pm when my son is asleep than it is for me to finagle some half-hearted attempt at playing for an hour downtown on a Saturday and then having to leave after spending $12 on boosters and $6 on gas heh.

Wow, Dave78pdx you almost exactly like me Smile My son was born in 2011, just about 15 months old, and I think the last time I actually got to play with paper MtG was the April before he was born. Since then I haven't played a single game of real-life MtG, although the crack is hard to give up and I find myself buying a pack here, a pack there, opening it, smelling the cardboard o_O, and filing it away. I've finally stopped and told myself that I'll only buy a couple boosters of real life cards every set and that's it... which is hard since I've been playing since 1994.

My move to MTGO this past weekend though was just awesome. I sold off a ton of my chaffe real life stuff since I knew, realistically, that I'd never really have time to fully use those cards again to their fullest potential (mostly Legacy things like duals, etc.) and just started up booster drafting; I can't explain this but I just *do not like at all* real life drafting but absolutely *love* digital drafting...weird... Kekeke Like others have noted a monumental strength of the format, you can play whenever it fits your schedule. You don't have to be at a shop at 4pm and stay till 10pm to finish, you don't have to be at the LGS only on Saturdays because that's the only day they play format 'x'. I'm in love with this because as you know well it lets folks with different schedules and commitments a means to still be able to enjoy our crack, albeit in pixel-form now.

I'm home every single night, heck I get to take my son with me to work (family business, gogogo!) half of the week anyways, but I'm always home to take care of my boy. Once he goes to bed, and thankfully he goes to bed quick and stays asleep unless teething, the gloves are off and it's game time Smile The thing about my wife, too, though is that she's not clingy and not needy; if we're both home and we both have things we want to do then she has no qualms at all if we're in separate parts of the house doing whatevers. She can watch HGTV and work on her crafting, I can go play MTGO or Starcraft, no problem at all. So this augments even more so how great MTGO is and why I, now, have zero qualms about leaving behind a majority of paper Magic.

...that said I have a closet with thousands of cards and I'm so looking forward to sharing this wonderful game with my son one day.... one day... Smile Good luck man, know that you're not alone in your plight.

Why do people come to a design conclusion based solely on the art and the name of this thread? Was the art named mox or something?

I think the vantage point of the art piece lends a lot to the speculation that it's a Mox of some kind. Virtually all of Braga's Mox pieces are from the perspective of the beholder and this piece has some similarities to that theme; it's definitely not 1 for 1, the Braga Moxen tend to look down upon the Mox cusped by 2 hands, including the more recent Mox Opal, so while the vantage point is similar, it doesn't line up exactly with the viewpoint of the beholder nor does it have 2 hands clasping the artifact.

I think that starts the fire and imagination provides much of the fuel. We latch onto the familiar to generate iterations of what might be, but in the end it most likely will be just Prophetic Prism Smile

I'm of 2 minds regarding this...

Logical mind : It's Prophetic Prism. The perspective doesn't necessarily matter if it's newly commissioned art, it's prism-like being held in the palm of an outstretched hand, similar in thematic to the original card but presented from a new vantage point with a proper Ravnica background to match.

Hopeful mind : This is a Mox Prism Grin

    Mox Prism
    0
    Legendary Artifact - Mythic rare
Imprint -- If Mox Prism would enter the battlefield you may exile any number of cards from your hand. Mox Prism may tap for 1 mana of any color of any mana symbol appearing on cards exiled this way.

Something like that, my templating is weaksauce but you get the idea Wink If it's not the Prophetic Prism then I think they might opt for something like that.

I'm definitely not as hardcore as some (a lot? hah) of you folks, but I collect Legends Flash Counters... I think I have about 60 or 70 now. If I see it online when I'm ordering stuff or if it shows up in a trade binder I'll ask to throw it in. I have this odd affinity for that card, actually used it in the first tournament I played in.

it's all downhill from here... Brushwaggs for all! Wink

I'm very excited about this set, normally I'm very casual about MTGO in general (most of my decks are about 5-7 tixx) but I'm seriously considering investing a bit more in MED4.

I pray to $deity I'm wrong about the Brushwaggs.

Needless to say the input capabilities of a multitouch display more than make up for the lack of screen real estate. I think people are discounting the possibility because they're thinking 'modo on a 3.5 inch screen', which is NOT the way mobile apps (or at least good ones) are developed.

Being a developer myself this is pretty much truth Smile That said though, a lot of apps I've seen worked on (and things I'm working on myself) tend not to be based on larger, esetablished games with intricate interactions that traditionally required a lot of space. Icons I'm working on now are 32x32 and even that's a pretty tiny footprint to aim for with your fingertip; IMHO the format he has right now is suboptimal, it should be landscape form with multitouch zoom in/out, but as it stands his touch targets are incredibly small.

If it were Magic Lite or something, real basics with some of the meat and potatoes of the game built in, basic strategies but nothing that requires tapping or land management, it might work well as it stands. But to try to shoehorn the entirety of MtG into a small screen like that makes me think of that whole "forcing a square peg into a round hole" kinda deal. Cool in initial proof of concept as an idea but right now it's not there as far as execution goes.

    Does anyone know more?

This project is private, not published to the App Store, and seeks approval from Wizards of the Coast before going any further.

So it's 'real' in the sense that a developer has made a playable version but as far as being legit, right now it is not; if it were actually being licensed my wager would be that would be a reason for the lack of updates but I would think that corporate would prefer to keep such a thing under wraps until it's closer to release.

Like Sidestepper mentioned, I'm not sure if you can do something like MtG on a device if 2 players are sharing 1 device... unless you really, really, really trust your opponent Wink It does make responding to spells trickier in that case but conversely I don't see why you couldn't design it to play as a 1P game with Coop/2P mode added in for extra devices.

Personal preference but for a game like MtG I would have gone for a landscape view rather than portrait since generally the field (and your hand) is viewed as expanding horizontally more than vertically. He could also introduce, say, a combat view overlay onto the field, zooming in more to handle combat but still being able to 'tap' back to the regular board to assess the situation. It's a good start and while I'd love for it to go further I'm thinking that WotC might have issues with the current deployment as well as needing to reassess his solutions for various issues that would come up such as targeting size for touch targets, handling combat efficiently, etc.

Foil Sliver Overlord, like the one in the Premium Deck, is about 11~14 or 11~23 depending on whether it's from Scourge or not.

Actually if you check everyone's favorite auction site there are a bunch in the $6-8 (shipped, too) range. I think even prior to the Premium deck shipping I don't recall seeing the Scourge one go for more than $12-15 tops.

I enjoy these Premium decks, they're pretty fun to play out of the box, even if it's just casually with friends not even to collect. Foil versions of Kaevek's Torch, Mana Flare, and Burnout (and Chain Lighthing hehe) would be nice additions to have for my Cube Kekeke

  • posted a message on MtG Tactics Art (Possibly M11 Art...?)
I'm not 100% on development coming up with the art after the 3D models since the in-game Serra looks quite different from the card art: Things like blonde vs. brunette, very different armor, etc. There are a significant amount of differences between the two, which leads me to think that 1) the 3D model is either very early in production and/or 2) it's based off of the current Serra Angel image and/or 3) the illustration is similar but not a direct representation of the in-game model, possibly coming from a different source. Usually with game development you concept out the 2D before you work on the 3D work since 3D work tends to take considerable more time and resources.

If it is, in fact, just art for the game it just strikes me as strange that the final 3D model would differ so much from the 2D image which they're using since they could just recommission a new piece to be done up (or would/should have just made the 3D model based on the 2D image in the first place)

That said, the article Masked Rider linked shows an image of Reya (I assume) who looks a bit more similar to the in-game card art than the in-game Serra Angel does when compared to her in-game card art...

ugh..time for coffee Smile I think I'm babbling

Nice, new Reya Dawnbringer art, too... I really hope that's in M11... and in Foil... haha Kekeke

Moobeat, the funny thing about BSA's art is that originally it actually was supposed to be a Serra Angel art piece but I guess they wanted to go with Staples' iconic piece and give her her own card Smile

My friend linked me the MtG:Tactics game that's coming out for the PS3/PC but I noticed a few of the card images in the Collection screen were new, not recycled to my knowledge. I'm not sure what is/isn't in M11 (I think Healing Salve is out, Serra Angel is in? Actually I see no room in M11's spoiler for Guided Strike, possibly Sacred Ground though?) but the art looks pretty good and I have a feeling they wouldn't make commission a bunch of new art for this game when they'd have some quality ones on tap (say, for M11 or something), and I'm not sure how much disparity they'd make between this upcoming game and whatever is in M11/standard.

Anyways sorry if this has been posted already, heh, or if it falls off as turning out to be, well, unimportant Smile
