The Dos and Don'ts of Silver-Border Commander

"Dinosaur spells" are only spells that have Dinosaur in their type line or have the Changeling ability, as they are all creature types at all times. So the only non-creature spells that these two cards will reduce the cost of are Nameless Inversion and Crib Swap.

So, Commune with Dinosaurs and Dinosaur Stampede will NOT have their costs reduced by Kinjalli's Caller or Otepec Huntmaster.

    Hope that helps.

That id not exact, also Blades of Velis Vel, Ego Erasure and Wings of Velis Vel will get their costs reduced.

Both Commune with Dinosaurs and Dinosaur Stampede do NOT have the dinosaur tipe so they do NOT get the discount, while a creature, like Bellowing Aegisaur, that is a dinosaur gets the discount and a spell that is a dinosaur, like Crib Swap that have all creature tipes, get the discount.

From the card Chart a Course's flavour text it seems that there is a character named Captain Parrish, he/she may be a blue legendary creature and "Captain Parrish" fits the number crunch.

What are the mistakes you made in EDH that made you learn? For me, I was playing Edric, Spymaster of Trest deck. I asked my opponent whether he has fliers to block my fliers. He said no. I whacked all with my fliers. He blocks with a reach creature. Lost an attacker. So, from then onwards, I ask my opponents 'Do you have fliers AND reach?' Never got into the problem again.

    What about you?
It seems like he's not a friendly player, the right term for such a player would get me Mods attention. But still why would someone do such a thing to deceive the opponent? Was it during a tournament?

Answering your question: I learned to never underestimate Krenko, mob boss even when he is in the command zone, he closed a 4 players game in the 5 turn! That's wrong! Never underestimate mono-red again!

It is only an uncommon, though. Probably will be good in limited.

I'd also imagine that there will be a lot of tribal pirate support in Ixalan.

I hope so, I NEED to build a pirate-themed commander.

    the ****?

what card shop were you guys buying any masters anything packs at at under $12 minimum?

products like these... given their print run, and whats included, msrp is irrelevant. wotc could set a price of literally $1, but if the run and the cards included warrant it then your shop will charge $20.
In Italy for MM2 the price per pack was 15€ that is roughly 17,60$ (with today's change), luckly for Eternal Masters the price has been lowered to 12€, but still that is a lot for a set full of crappy (ok, maybe not a lot) reprints.

Magic card availability is becoming more and more prevailing. I'm unsure how long you've been playing for but magic did change its printing policy during the start of Return to Ravnica block. Prior to that time a set would only be printed for a few limited months when that set was the newest. After RtR the sets are now printed on demand until two years later when the set rotates out of standard. This printing process has allowed far more cards to be issued and collected. Cards like snapcaster mage and liliana of the veil never dropped below 30 when that block rotated out, but even though they were a reprint all shock lands never stayed above 10 when they rotated. Watery grave is still a 15 dollar card after being released 5 years ago. Cards have become affordable, but unfortunately every single card they've ever printed cannot become affordable otherwise what's the point to magic being a collectible anyways?

I've been playing since 2000, and intrinsic value is one of the things that has always kept players around. What's the point of spending money on cards if there's no return value? What the point of playing a game where you get nothing back? As we move foreword magic has to, and is evolving to accommodate the ever growing number of players vs the demand for cards which in my opinion has been handled quite well. With an MSRP of 3.99 a pack there has to be some form of value there, otherwise who would buy them? Just like in life everybody can't afford to do the same thing everyone else can. Unfortunately modern, and legacy should very well be left to the players who have worked hard at gaining their collection and want something to show for it. Eventually wizards will make another non rotating format to compensate for modern prices.

No, please no. You're saying that modern is a format for "elite" players (like yourself) that "work hard" (=Spend a lot of money) to have a deck?
If it where like you're saying not a lot of people would play modern, who would you play against?

The value of an opened pack is almost non-existent, just think of the lastest set "Hour of Devastation" where it's really hard to get back the value of the pack.

Also Wizards does not really care about non-rotating formats, for them is all about limited and standard where they do a lot more money.

My mistake, goes to show that I've never really played with Mind's Desire before.

Mind's desire is an incredible fun card, I play it in my Mizzix storm EDH, and I can say that even with the randomness it can be crazy powerful.

From what I've seen in this very forum so far Mairsil, the Pretender is going to be one of the most misgendered characters ever.
Don't forget that Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is tecnically a man that dresses like a woman.
Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is a trans woman. Your description of her is pretty offensive.
Don't even start. Mods will close the thread. If you really want to tell me what in my overly-simplistic description is wrong, do so in a private message.

Wasitora is in the set because they wanted a cicle of dual-tipes creatures, they then abandoned the idea keeping just two of them: Bloodline Necromancer (for wizard - vampire) and Wasitora, Nekoru Queen (for cat - dragon). Only after they desinged the cards they found out that Wasitora existed (while searching for a cat dragon in the multiverse).

So in Animar (with its best friend), this is effectively Magus of the Surge? Yeah there are a lot of differences like no lands, actually casting the spells and being able to use sorceries/instants, but let's face it, all those differences don't matter in most Animar decks when you reach the "use entire library" stage - it's all about the creatures.

Of course, needless to say this is better than Surge and Mind's Desire in the deck, simply by being a creature. Both of the spells were more or less dead weight in the hand when you couldn't pull them off and Surge probably bored some people who played it when it goes off (I know I was, at least) and while Mind's Desire could still be useful when used "midway", the limited randomness doesn't lead to a guarantee success that Animar, being Animar probably has a good other couple ways to ensure anyway. (Unless you're running a dedicated storm Animar deck, then you appreciate both, but I'm referring to the typical "casual" battlecruiser ones).

Infinitely more useful simply being a creature - sure, it's ability paints a target on it, although by logic Animar itself (along with pretty much most large creatures in the deck) should be similar, if not larger targets anyway.

Plus (with haste, or past a turn), you can activate him in response for a free chance at the top of your deck (while nullifying removal if its targeted), if you manipulated the topdeck nicely, then that's guaranteed value. Considering some Maelstrom Wanderer decks are topdeck manipulation heavy and the Wanderer can cascade to the Magus and grant it haste, it's swell in there too.
You have to shuffle your library as the resolution of the effect.
