Hey everyone, I have been playing magic off and on for ten years, mostly casually. I have played competitively in 4 different standards now, but that is the extent of my game experience.
I have been wanting to get into modern and want to grind store credit at my local store due to not having too much extra income for magic. I can trade for most of the cards in modern because I have a decent
staple collection. Only exception are too many 70+ dollar cards.
What I need help with is deciding on a deck that is good against both affinity, and tron.
I recently tried infect but I have a hard time beating affinity with a mono-green budget list that I borrowed. Tron is easy to beat, but I have a hard time beating affinity.
If you have any suggestions it would be extremely helpful, especially if it is good against affinity.
Last FNM someone said that when I was attacking, he blocked, then I used regenerate, that his creature didn't take damage. I was under the impression that it created a shield until the next source of lethal damage, but was stupid and didn't call a judge over and just let him have is way. Would my creature still have killed his through combat? Or does the mana regeneration ability immediately take it out of combat?
Say my board has 1 Kiora's Follower which reads untap target permanent.
I have x amount of lands and 2 copies of the new card "Jeskai's Ascendancy" Whenever you play a non-creature spell you may give all of your creatures +1+1 if you do, untap them.
Say i play any old spell and it resolves, the first instance of Jeskai's ascendancy resolves, Is it then possible to tap Kiora AGAIN before the second instance resolves allowing her to
untap again so that i may untap another land before the second instance of Jeskai's Ascendancy resolves?
Example. I have 4 lands, I tap three mana to play a spell, I then tap kiora in response to untap one of the lands, the spell resolves with 2 jeskai ascendancies on the stack.
One resolves untapping Kiora, then I tap her again before the second instance resolves, allowing me to untap another, and then the second instance resolves allowing me to
untap Kiora again.
If someone could clarify this interaction please let me know :). If I was unclear anywhere let me know and I will clarify.

Preferably the deck wouldn't be too expensive, but moderate expenses are fine.
