I went 2-2. R1, won against Free Win Red. R2, Won against Hatebears. R3 Lost against Merfolk. Seriously burn that deck into the ground (I'm 0-8 against it since I've been keeping track.). R4 lost to burn. It was a bit disappointing to go 2-0 then 0-2.
how do you guys settle things with infect and burn?
I've found that thalia is a powerhouse in both matchups, but without her and/or land destruction-engine on the game is tragic.
And will we have to cut burrenton forge tender now that they have printed a pyroclasm that isn't red? kozilek's return
I've found that infect is difficult because of Blighted Agent, which requires removal to deal with.
I'm surprised that burn is troubling you. Dromoka's Command is such an incredible blowout against them that I actually find this matchup very difficult to lose.
I know that Moderately Played cards typically don't go for full value, but what is a typical reduction in price for moderately played cards? I just have no idea what would be considered "fair."
Anyway, what do people think of Pia and Kiran Nalaar? They enter the battlefield three times and they can throw Myr tokens at stuff for only three mana. Seems fairly decent late-game as a 4drop.
I've been testing this deck a lot lately on Untap.in, and while i do love it, there are some serious meta problems right now. Splinter twin was one of our best matchups, and now the game is flooded with affinity, jund, tron, eldrazi, and infect decks. A lot of these decks really aren't great matchups for us. I, like a lot of people on here, have been experimenting with impact tremors, and have cut out the pridemates and a bunch of the sisters, since the sisters are so weak to any form of removal, and often early lifegain doesn't mean much if the opponent takes control of the board. I also found the problem with pridemates is that to draw them early, with no sisters, is often asking to lose control of the board early, and running too many sisters in the deck gives the opponent time to set up his ultimate strategy, be it tron or infect damage or a swarmy affinity board. I've tried running small hatebear packages of thalia/magus of the moon in the deck, and while sometimes that really makes a difference, some matchups just crush right over that.
Is this deck basically dead competitively in the format with the loss of splinter twin?
Really? I've always thought Twin was by far our worst matchup. I could never beat the Grixis Twin decks at my store because their creature removal suite was so spectacular, and I frequently got 2-for-1ed with Kommand, kill a dude and shatter your Genesis Chamber.
Any idea on the list with tremors? I've been trying to cut champions and pridemates, but I feel the only thing that can handle the board is chamber. Maybe something in the middle with chambers and one of those I just mentioned?
I'm actually using all of these. 4 impact tremors, 4 champions, 3 pridemates and 4 genesis chambers. I like having the creature threats, as they can get out of hand fairly quickly and provide pressure even when you don't have tremors
You could try Spirit Bonds if you like flooding the board.
Also, what do people think of Blade Splicer? It's a human that enters the battlefield twice and is a general pain in the butt.
Am I the only one underwhelmed by Aven Mindcensor? Nobody at my LGS ever falls for it and it's a 3drop with mediocre stats. I replaced it with 2x Kitchen Finks but if URW KikiResto becomes popular I might switch to 2x Archangel of Tithes. I wasthinking about that anyway because I have a hard time beating Lingering Souls and Blade Splicer.
Anyone have any advice for facing Hatebears? One popped up in my local meta last night and I wasn't sure how to play against it.
You need to be prepared post-board, with cards like Searing Blood, also, kill Thalia because she buys them enough time to beat face with creatures. And watch out for getting blown out by Dromoka's Command.
The matchup is nearly impossible and you just have to hope.
I was a bit skeptical about Kitchen Finks at first, but the more I play it, the more I start to like it. I now always have two in the main, with sometimes a 3rd in the sideboard. It is a great card versus Burn, which is quite prominent in my meta. It's also quite good versus agressive decks with a lower curve, such as Zoo and even (to some extend) Affinity, where it can help to survive those critical first turns. I also like it versus 'fair' 1-for-1 decks as Jund, since it's pretty good at not being 1-for-1'd (except for Path, Relic of Progenitus and some other exile effects). Yes, sometimes you just want to beat face, and then Smiter is better. But in cases where we're not the beatdown deck (which is still quite often in my experience), Finks is often very good.
Also: I'm going to switch out CoCo in my testing for Oath of Nissa's to see if I like it. I'm still not convinced, but I do see it's potential. Also makes it less of a deal to run a couple of 4-drops.
I used to Run 2 Wild-Lief Lieges and a Thrun, which was quite good in my meta. But with the bannings of Twin and rise of the Eldrazi decks (pun intended), I am probably going to try Restoration Angel instead of Thrun.
Running Ponder (ie Oath of Nissa) has been pretty good in my experiences. My SB now has Kataki instead of Stony Silence but it's still been okay vs tron.
Restoration Angel is good with Finks but nothing else. Finks also encourages running WLL because it makes it a 5/4, which is huge, so I like WLL over resto.
For BGx, I have a Sigarda, Host of Herons in the board because she doesn't die to Languish or Liliana, and uncounterable is not as relevant.
I didn't like Finks in the main because it looked really stupid against Twin. They would either Remand it, Twin off, or just stick a 1/4 in front and block. Now, we don't really have to deal with that. With the rise of burn, I think a 2-of in the main makes sense.
Well. With the ban Auriok Champion shouldn't be as powerful as before, with Twin disappearing and Jund losing is best matchup. Tons of Trons, Eldrazi, Affinity and decks that beat those (hopefully for us burn is one of them) are awaiting us.
Stony Silence is becoming much more powerful (and its price is a strong signal of that), but I don't know which sb cards are good against Eldrazi atm, maybe Crumble to Dust?
We have to evolve a little bit, but we should wait the PT i think.
I feel Genesis Chamber is pretty good vs Eldrazis, but we would need answers to Affinity. I guess the Impact Tremors build can be good again.
For tron and eldrazis, we can try the boom/bust tech with Flagstones

The idea is that it's worth it to hit our scoozes and pridemages in order to shut everything they have down. (Also it doesn't hit Hierarch.)

Ghost Quarter is strip mine against Eldrazi and Tron basically. Against affinity, you board out chambers and bring in Dismember, Wear//Tear, and any Celestial Flare or Mana Tithe you might be running.
