  • posted a message on Extended officially being retired
Wow, haven't posted in forever, but I had to reply to this. I played a LOT of Extended when I got back into Magic in 2005, so it holds quite a bit of nostalgia for me. I loved playing White Weenie, Wake, Rock, RG Madness, and even Goblins. When they lowered the set size to 4, they basically neutered it, and Modern just finished it off. Sad stuff, but I've transitioned over to Modern, so it's just another way the game evolves. But farewell Extended, you were a good friend.

  • posted a message on The "Complain about Standard prices" thread
I don't post much on here, but I totally agree that Standard is entirely too expensive. Mistakes like Tarmogoyf plus the creation of the Mythic Rare rarity has shamelessly turned Standard into a pricey investment rather than a hobby.I really don't bother with Standard (or Magic altogether, though I still keep up with rumors) mainly for this reason.

I think that this, plus many other comments made by forum members, is much more than senseless complaining and is instead substantiated reasons. Therefore, I think this the title of this thread should be changed from "complaining" to "discussion", because calling it complaining is writing off any honest concern as whining, and gives gaming elitists a false sense of power over those of us who don't have the money to play Standard and those of us (like me) who simply refuse to pay $80+ for a card that is still in print.

Just my two cents. Thanks to those who read and take my discussion seriously. :-D

  • posted a message on [MPR] Player Rewards Discontinued
Well I stopped playing Magic some time ago (but still keep up with the game obviously), but had been wanting to get back into it but was on the fence about it. But now that MPR, the thing I liked the most about playing organized tournaments, has been dissolved for some bizarro reason, the decision has essentially been made for me. :-(

    Quote from Kajillion
The promo Garruk Wildspeakers that they gave you for buying DotP had an XBox360 controller as the expansion symbol.

The promo you got has nothing to do with the precon. You'd not even know about the promo had you not purchased the Xbox 360 game and got the redemption code. There's no 360 logo or 360 controller-shaped expansion symbol on the box; there's no way to make the connection other than the title (which should still have a "based on..." next to it).

Christ, what's wrong with half the people on these forums? Everyone seems to love to flex their e-***** when something is said that they don't agree with. Is that REALLY worth it? Really?!? Anyways, on topic, if these decks are truly meant to transition people from the Xbox 360 game to the paper game, then instead of the large picture of the planeswalker (because after playing the game for a while I kinda disassociated the planeswalker with the deck and referred to each one as "the green deck" or "the blue and white deck", etc., and I'm sure some other people did too. The people I played with online sure did.), why not show, I dunno, the Xbox 360 logo on it? or even an "as seen in the Xbox 360 game" blurb on it somewhere? If they wish to have the connection, why not make it directly? Without it, this just looks like a janky precon. Not every new player wants crappy cards because they're easier. And not everyone who plays the 360 game is new to Magic. And most people I played online, new or not, understood which cards in the game were garbage. They could've bridged this gap by including the better cards from each deck, and turned it up a notch by including some more expert level cards from sets released after the game - not anything huge, perhaps keeping the same rares or swapping out some of the worse ones for similar-valued current ones. I dunno, it seems like with a set up like that, more people would be attracted to it.

  • posted a message on Did you watch the WWF during 1997-2001?
I started to get into wrestling in the early 90's. The Attitude Era was hands down the best time to be a wrestling fan. DX, Austin, Rock, Foley, hardcore everything, and an actual tag team division (with the likes of the Hardyz, Edge/Christian, Dudleys, T&A, Too Cool, NAO, Jeff Jarret/Owen Hart (RIP)). Since there is no more Monday ratings war and much of the business is exposed, WWE doesn't have the same impact for me as it did back then. I still watch though, and I plan to lock myself in my house and watch Wrestlemania 25 this weekend. Grin

Yeah it really is a shame about Test. I remember when he first was on TV as Motley Crue's bouncer during an episode of RAW, lol. He was a pretty good wrestler, and T&A was a decent tag team (I miss the great tag team wrestling of the early 2000's). His stint in ECW was easily forgettable, but then again much of everything in ECW is that way.

I'm sure drugs were somehow involved in his death, but they could be anything from HGH to painkillers. Either way it's sad when a guy who was only 33 passes away so suddenly.

  • posted a message on Ten and Gone: The Rise and Fall of the Old Core Set
This was one of the finest articles I've ever read on this site. 5th came out right as I started playing, so I didn't know too much of what happened with previous core sets until later on, but Chronicles was a decent set solely for the fact that in my area the stores were flooded with packs so my friends and I were able to start up a collection right away. And I'm glad that the core set is becoming relevant again. Silence seems awesome, I'm glad BoP is back again, and I look forward to new cards in core sets. Again, awesome article!

OMG?!? All multi?!? My God that is really awesome! It seems that they are going out on a limb to make ARB a set to remember. You think they'll toss some lands in there for good measure?

I got it the other day. It's a refreshing take on puzzle games. I think it's worth all 1200 points, which says a lot.

  • posted a message on RIP George Carlin
I first saw George Carlin on TV back in 1992, I truly considered it a turning point in my life because he showed me a whole different way to look at the media, politics, and life in general. I thankfully saw him live on my 21st birthday, and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life. Today hits me really hard, and I will never ever forget him.

    Hey all,

So I don't have to go through the entire thread: Most people seem to have dropped Garruk Wildspeaker from their builds. How come? Too slow?

    Hey all,

I've been playing around with the options on here, and I can't seem to find this so pardon my ignorance, but is there any way to change the default font color? I want to be able to go in and type up a thread and not have to change my color every time. Thanks in advance.
