They all have the name "Elemental' and will all be exiled.

I don't have the exact citation handy, but whenever a token is created, unless a name is specified, its name is the type of token it is, IE Elemental, Beast, etc.

Some places consider the "draft" aspect of MTG to be the reasons its gambling. Pokémon doesn't have draft and technically yugioh doesn't have an official draft setup. But Mtg does and its a prime format so the whole game is labeled.

Don't expect to see mtg here again for 10+ years. unless the old guard is replaced or wotc finds out what is exactly making them label it and try to abide to it. Which I don't think will happen.

Also, Pokemon World Championships give out scholarships, not actual cash. I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Nope, you're qualified for Born of the Gods twice (assuming that is what both feed).

Of note: If you get a pro tour invite by placing high enough in a GP to get enough pro points to get to silver level (20), you are invited to the next Pro Tour unless you are already invited, then it defers.

But to your specific question, you will only be q'ed for Born of the Gods.

This is still awful. It's not that hard to competently design a product such that it never crashes in the first place.

For what it is worth, you'll never be able to design a system that never crashes unless you put a limit to how many people can be logged on at a time. WotC will never do that.

That being said, the fact that this is now the 4th MOCS to crash and I can't even count how many PTQs, something clearly needs to be done. There needs to be a better plan in place that isn't "well, I guess we can reschedule." I feel like the MTGO team doesn't want to admit that it is possible for their system to crash. Why else wouldn't you already have that plan in place. Also, announcements need to be made in a more public place. A blog that no one reads is not the correct forum to do that.

    Quote from DrewReaLee
Thanks guys I really appreciate the answers. I thought the DCI card was essential because of the bar code, but I guess just the number is needed. There were some really great ways to improvise the DCI number that I would have never thought it. Thanks again.

Your LGS should only need your number once, anyway. WER has a "local player database" that they should be able to store you in. Then they can just enroll you in a tournament from there. You don't need to scan it every time.

But agreed with everyone else, it is the same length as a phone number. If you really need it that often, memorize it (a good thing to do regardless), and if you can't do that, store it in your phone.

Also, for what it is worth, my plastic judge DCI card seems to be holding up fine, but the last MPR one I got (The Sarkhan one) was completely unreadable in like 3 days.

Are we going to have to re-download the whole torrent every time a new set comes out? Seems inconvenient to have to download 15 gigs for the 1% of it you actually need.

Plus, you're also potentially getting into outside assistance by using your phone to look things up on the internet. Sure, you can find the ruling, but there is also potentially strategy advice that goes along with it.

Question so are you saying that if someone tries to spend a counterspell on something that isnt counterable, they get to keep the counterspell and untap the land?

What about someone magma jetting my thassa then mizzium morter it cause they didn't realize it was indestructible? Should i tell them after the first spell or let them keep casting?

No. That interaction is different than the pro a color one (which is somewhat unintuitive, I know). You cast Last Word. I cast Counterspell. My counterspell still has a legal target. So it resolves. However, when it resolves, it does nothing. But you still did everything legally.

Now, at casual games, opponents will often let you take it back. At a competitive tournament, they often won't.

As far as the magma jet, Thasa...that's really up to you. Maybe they have other plans in mind...you don't really know what's happening from just a Magma Jet. From a rules perspective, though, everything happened legally.

Slagstorm gives you options. Volcanic Fallout is uncounterable if that matters. Earthquake sort of works.

Well, doom blade really can't target that guy.

But yes, you are required to maintain game state. As to "how do you know if player B was actually cheating or just didn't realize it himself?" That's a pretty fine line to walk. Had a situation like that come up at a competitive REL tournament I was judging over the weekend. Creature that was enchanted by a bestow creature died and both ended up in the graveyard. Wasn't noticed until a few turns later.

An investigation will happen, as it did on Saturday. Since it is a "my word vs. theirs" sort of situation, most judges will be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt the first time. (Especially at a pre-release where you're playing the cards for the first time, and the setting is much more casual. I don't ever want to DQ someone out of a pre-release). However, if this happens at any tournament run above Casual REL, your name will go in the Head Judge's notebook and you will be watched pretty carefully for the rest of the day.

I remember reading that they were originally supposed to only show up once a block, if that. But they tested so well that WoTC feels the need to put one in every set now. Also, they're mythic rares that sell packs, so obviously WoTC wants as many as possible.

I don't like the life total solution, as there are quite a few games where that does not indicate who is actually winning.

    Cheers

Regardless, this is the official method specified for this type of situation. It is the one that should be used.

Coin-flipping to determine a winner is not fair to either player, and should never be used.

  • posted a message on First Draft, what should I know?!
    Quote from Neuroticneurok
Simply put, don't draft. Unless you're an experienced drafting Spike, you're just throwing away your money.

It's a fun experience, I'll grant you, but the point of a draft is to win the draft.

This is quite possibly the worst advice possible. That being said, don't expect to 3-0 the draft. Be ok with going 0-3 and knowing that you want to us it as a learning experience.

It can be overwhelming at first. You open 14 cards and go "Oh my god, what do I take?" Pick order usually follows the BREAD system -
B - Bombs. It is hard to nail down a formula for bombs, exactly, but these are the big swingy cards that just win games on their own. Usually they are hard to answer threats (Abhorrent Overlord), or things that let you back into the game if you're behind (Sea God's Revenge).
R - Removal. Cards that kill your opponent's bombs. This set is a little odd in the fact that the normal removal is actually pretty bad. Sip of Hemlock is extremely overcosted for what it does, as are the -4/-4 black spell and the 4 damage scry red spell. But cards like Sedge Scorpion and Lightning Strike are very effecient removal spells and should be taken highly. Also, blue's bounce cards Griptide, the Unsummon with scry (sorry, can't remember it's name) and Sea God's Revenge can all be blowouts -- especially in response to Monstrous activations.
E - Evasion. Usually creatures that fly or are unblockable, but really any creature that is difficult to block effeciently.
A - Average/Attackers. Usually around picks 7-8 of the pack is where you start to get into the "A" category. These are your Yoked Oxes and Hill Giants. Usually creatures that you are somewhat decently costed or do relatively helpful things (even if only swinging for 2).
D - Dregs. The unplayables. Only draft them when they are the only cards left in the pack.

Figuring out which card fits in which category is indeed something that you will only learn by practice.

Honestly, the best piece of advice is to have fun. Understand that it is a game, and it is something that you'll get better at. Don't worry about your record so much as making the right plays, and learning what cards are good in certain situations.

Edit: Looks like my bread explanation got 'nathed by the two posts above me.

They explained the reasoning for which ones they printed in the article that spoiled them. All 10 color combos will have this exact land. They printed the 5 they did in Theros because they are the Gatecrash color combos, which had their shocks spend less time in Standard than the RTR ones. So they're trying to balance that out a little.

The other 5 will show up in some combination over the last two sets of the block.
