That's perfect. And yeah I meant 8 times just for the tokens. Thanks.

Guess another question: If I attack with three creatures while an Archangel of Thune is under my Windbrisk Heights, can I activate the windbrisk heights after blockers are declared but before damage, casting angel and triggering the lifegain from Soul Warden and counters from Archangel to pump the attacking creatures? Gives me a headache to think about.

If someone has a Soul Warden on the field and the opponent casts Master of Waves for say 8 devotion, 8 tokens, does that cause Soul Warden's effect to trigger 8 times?

Yes I can see I walk into counters somewhat often. Usually don't see it coming even if it's right in front of me. Either way I'm sticking to my current build as I have a fairly decent win rate with it. Might test with Martyr and Hawks again at some point but this build seems to be working well.

I don't understand how this is possible. Unless you're playing martyr without open mana (which is a serious n00b play error) they can't stop you unless they're running trickbind or squelch, which is basically nobody.

I mean, I realize that playing a turn 1 ascendant into turn 2 martyr is a very risky play, and that's why I almost never go for it.

Regardless, if you're skipping martyr and going for 4x archangel (which would be a different but possibly equally viable deck) I would go to 23-24 lands for sure. I'd also very, very seriously consider the black splash for lingering souls and vault of the archangel. Tokens are amazeballs with archangel as I'm sure you know, and vault makes this deck unbeatable late game by anything that lacks sweepers.

When playing against decks with counters or removal(provided when I have no mana up, which happens occasionally) it's just immediately gone. Probably 9/10 games I got zero use out of it.

Still doing fine with the angels though. Only running one tec edge, flagstones of trokair, windbrisks, and plains. Working out so far. Just needs more setting up compared to other builds.

See played another few games with all 4 Archangels in. Cast one, resolved. Had another under windbrisk, attacked with tokens and sisters, second one dropped, they used removal, drop Brave the Elements, they scoop. I agree getting one or two to the field pretty much ends the game unless they have an abundance of removal. But with 2-3 sisters on the field and dropping Spectral procession right after Archangel is a thing of beauty.

I was thinking of cutting Archangel of Thune down to 2 but I have yet to be punished by running 4 so I hadn't yet. I mostly get lucky and drop one under windbrisk and end up Spectral Processioning then triggering it next turn. Mainly wanted the deck to be less about throwing everything in their face and more about dropping a board full of heavy threats in 1-2 turns to the point that if they don't have sweepers then they lose the turn after. One of those "When it works, WOW" type things. I'll keep testing.

I decided not to run Martyr because any deck that has ANY sort of removal knows exactly what's going to happen so they immediately kill it. I've triggered it maybe twice in the time I've played the deck.

Squadron Hawk I had in originally with Martyr but again rarely ever got the Martyr to go off.

Honor of the Pure may as well take a couple of my last spots.

And yes I figured I'd go to 22 lands, cutting a couple plains and adding in 4 Flagstones of Trokair. Minor thinning might be good.

Working on a budget-y Soul Sisters to take to shops and whatnot. Looking to fill a couple spots or take advice on what is already here. Been testing it a bit and it works fairly well with what I've been switching in and out of it but doesn't feel done yet.

    So far I've got:

I've been dropping a couple Auriok Champions in now and then with mixed results. They're mostly not needed in the games I play so I ended up cutting them. The creature base at first looks a bit greedy in a way but I've had no problems with it really. Mostly concerned with what to do with mana base. I've seen a wealth of advice on running Flagstones of Trokair to try and thin the deck or Ghost Quarter for obvious reasons. As for spells people have been scorning me for not using Proclamation of Rebirth but I think it's too situational if you're ahead, which is fairly often. Also wondering about opinions on adding in Kitchen Finks. This is basically just a beefier version of the Soul Sisters Shell. Good fun but needs worked on.

    Any advice is appreciated.

Ah, I didn't know how the triggers stacked. All makes sense now. Deck looks like fun. Looks to be extremely vulnerable to discard spells though.

Was looking at annoying decks to play against and a near overwhelming response was the amulet of vigor combo decks. Turn 2 or 3 Primeval Titans are pretty annoying. Was going to ask about it though.

When you play the bounce lands, can you tap the land you have to bounce in response to it's effect so that you float mana or would you tap the land for mana BEFORE dropping the bounce land? I've never seen the deck played only looked at deck lists so I'm not entirely sure how it all works, just that there is some insane ramp into Titans.

I love all tribal decks. Tribal-ish Merfolk is my favorite though because I like blue and like the beatdown+control style those decks bring.

Hate: Kithkin. Not a lot of Kithkin decks running around but when I face a good one it's usually devastating.

How many cards do people typically run in their modern burn? I'm running 65 in mine and think it's a bit excessive but I've been seeing people all the way to 75 and still getting good results. Is there a sweet spot or does it really matter with burn?

Yeah I tried the same thing. They weren't having it though so I told them to shove it and that I wouldn't be coming back. Nearly a 50 dollar screw up and they replied with "Well we'll send you a M15 booster pack for compensation". So...that's....that's something I guess. Lol

So last night I bought a couple singles from some place on TCG. Was a few bucks lower than some so figured it was a good price. Bought two. This morning I check my email to see that they refunded my order almost immediately saying "There was an error in our system displaying prices incorrectly". So they jacked the price of it up and then said "You may try purchasing again or look for the item elsewhere" or something to that effect. To me it just looks like someone didn't input the price correctly so I wasn't able to buy them at the advertised price.

I'm sure they're within their rights to do this...I think. But it is still sad. Mad

  • posted a message on Duel deck card legality & Master/phantasmal image
So I'm building a fairly standard Modern Merfolk deck to have something to play in Modern. And I love Merfolk. Anyway. Decided to buy a playset of Remand. I bought the version that was reprinted in the duel deck(like 3 dollars cheaper per card) version rather than the first printing of it, which really ticks me off because I like the original art anyway. Returning them isn't an option but a friend said that since it's a duel deck printing that it isn't legal in Modern. As far as I know, aren't cards legal from duel decks as long as their original printing is legal within the format? In this case Modern.

Secondly. More of an "If I do this" question. If you have Master of Waves on the field already and Phantasmal Image it, does it trigger Master of Waves' ability again to swarm even more tokens?

Might sound like simple questions but asking nonetheless. Thanks in advance.

Hopefully this would be the right place for this. Not looking for deck tech discussions or anything of that sort, just poking around to see people's personal opinions on what types of decks would be decent to build for the purpose of FNM and possibly upgrading in the future for more serious ventures. Currently I'm thinking of three different ways to go. Obviously this is all subjective to each individual's play style but let me know nonetheless.

Soul Sisters: This would be the cheapest and probably least likely option for me. Price is usually a factor for me and this is by far the cheapest option I could go. Deck is fun to play but does get beaten quite a bit. Rough cost: $150

B/W Tokens: I see a ton of these decks since the Modern Event Deck was released. The event deck itself wasn't that great, I know, but I did play around with some deck building sites to make a pretty threatening deck out of it.(Plus got it for like 40 bucks, figured why not?) Pumping some money into it and taking out the terrible cards actually makes the deck pretty dang good. This would be the second cheapest option as I already have some bones of the deck. Rough cost: $280

Merfolk: I've always had some strange draw to Merfolk cards. I have no idea. They're fish people, what is there to love about fish people? I just...like them. I enjoy the beat down style of a good Merfolk deck. With so many options for Merfolk based decks there are some amazing decks that can come out of it. This would be the most expensive option as I would be starting from scratch. Rough cost: $500

Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm a terribly indecisive person and while my style of play is most likely different from others, I'd still like to see opinions. Also any opinions on decks of similar cost are welcome as well. Just looking for something competitive to take to the shops.
