Needless to say, I won the draft 4-0 playing against GW aggro, GR aggro, BUw control(That's where my Frozen Solids went :(), and some weird WRgu thing o_O.
I'm just wondering, why did you pick Steamcore Weird over Gruul Guildmage? I mean, I know mono-colored cards are better than multis at first pick, but Gruul Guildmage is easily the 5th best, just a little lower than Dimir, Rakdos, Selesnya, or Azorious.
This week...
Round 1: RG Aggro
Game 1: Pretty easy. Countered his early spells. Wrathed field and then Weirding lock for game.
Game 2: This one was hard. Kird Ape + Scab-Clan +Burning Tree + Solifuge on consecutive turns is hard to beat, but....Mana Leak +Helix then Wrath does that. The Meloku next turn to win.
SB: -3 Hinder
-2 Weirding
+ 4 Descendant
+ 1 Mask
Result: 2-0 Me
Round 2: UR Magnivore
Game 1: I dunno what happened this game, he had god-draw. Going first into Sleight, Eye, Stone Rain, Demolish, Compulsive, Wildifre, then Triple Mag. O_o
Game 2: Sacred Ground turn + Counter-Backup=Game.
Game 3: Weirding hit him hard and fast this game, locking from anything useful.
SB: -3 Wrath
+ 3 Sacred Ground
Result: 2-1 Me
Round 3: Ghost Dad
Game 1: This guy really hates my deck, he plays Boseiju + Cranial Main. Cranial for Firemane= Game.
Game 2: Turn 3 Mask eliminated his Cranials and next turn Wrath + 6th turn Meloku= Game for me.
Game 3: I really hate shoals. Early Mask again, this time he had a KOALA, but a Weirding next turn, followed by reasearch into 2 Firemanes( O_O!) should win the game, no? Stupid shoal kept diretcing Firemane's damage to itself, this game took forever.
SB: - 3 Remand
+ 3 Mask
Result: 2-1 Me
Round 4: Owl
Game 1: Oddly enough, I won this game. He seemed to be owl screwed + all of his kamis + my early weirding was enough for game.
Game 2: Early POM + mask + lack of good draws=One looooooong game.
SB: -4 Wrath
-1 Meloku
-3 Remand
+ 3 Mask
+ 3 Grasp
+ 2 POM
Results: 2-0 Me
The Key to beating Wildfire/Magnivore is eary Weirding or Sacred Ground. I've tested this match-up 50 times or so and those are they key. Against Izzetron, I have no clue. o_o
Love the deck. I'm running the original Kamiel Cornelissen list but replaced 2 Gifts Ungiven and a land with 3 Remand. A few questions:
1. Most people are running 4 Sacred Foundry but I only have 2 right now. What should I replace it with? 2 Battlefield Forge? A Forge and a Shivan Reef? Maybe a Forge and a Boros Garrison?
2. Remand or Electrolyze in the main? I somewhat like Remand in the maindeck better.
3. Against aggro, what's a good SB aside from Electrolyze or Repeal? From limted testing, Zoo and Gruul is a decent match-up but Giant Solifuge is a real pain. Is countering it our best option? How about Ghostly Prison? If say we SB 5 cards (3 Electrolyze and 2 Prison) what can we take out? 2 Zur's Weirding are the only cards I can think of. Maybe a Signet and a Compulsive Research?
4. What to SB against BW? Electrolyze and possibly Guerilla Tactics are the only cards I can think of right now.
5. How about the control match-up like Greater Gifts and UR Izzetron? Jushi, Descendant of Kiyomaro and maybe Rewind/ Quash?
To answer your questions(hopefully): I think Pyroclasm or Shard Phoenix are good answers to Solifuge/BW Aggro. Electrolyze is good against the BW deck too. Why would you side Descendant aginst GG? They get a lot of card advantage, making him subpar. O_o Remand is definately better than 'lyze, as it slows down Zoo/Gruul's tempo and acts as buffer.
I''ve managed to grab first in 2 FNM tournaments with this deck. It may look a little weird, with the Melokus all in board, but this guy is a house. I've won games when my oppoent had some surprise I hadn't expected, like a Scour, which really wrecks this deck's plans, like Cranial Extraction.
I dunno, dondens just seem too slow to me, like the guildmage, I did, however, pull the signets out and put a 24th land and 4th fetters. I cut the Angel so my deck looks something like this
1x Frost Marsh
4x Snow-Covered Swamp
1x Snow-Covered Forest
1x Swamp
6x Forest
4x Island
Creatures: 17
5x Krovikan Mist
1x Phobian Phantasm
1x Frost Raptor
1x Ohran Viper
2x Zombie Musher
1x Blizzard Specter
1x Drelnoch
1x Adarkar Windform
2x Arctic Nishoba

1x Chill to the Bone
2x Surging Aether
1x Surging Might
1x Into the North
2x Krovikan Whispers
1x Snow-covered Mountain
1x Fury of the Horde
2x Martyr of Sands
1x Martyr of Spores
1x Martyr of Bones
1x Jokulmorder
1x Rimebound Dead
1x Luminesce
1x Kjeldoran Outrider
1x Highland Weald
1x Martyr of Frost
1x Boreal Griffin
2x Sun's Bounty

Hmmm....
1) Rune Snag New, viable replacement for Mana Leak, I will definately play this.
2) Sunscour A new, free Wrath effect? Wow...
3) Haakon, Stormgald Scourge An unkillable, knight-reviving, playable legend?
4) Ohran Viper Ophidian's new, younger, better brother.
5) Adarkar Valkyrie I've always been an angel fan and she continues the tradition
Underrated: Rakdos Augermage
A 2/2 + Timewalk? I'll take it.
Uncommon...? Defineatly Savage Twister. It's the best board sweeper avliable in RRG limited.
Rare...Glare of Subdual. The ability to tap your oppnwnt's creatures is invaluable and the ability to do it repeatedly in limited, broken.
