A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

My very first game of MtG was against a Wellwisher/Ageless Entity combo deck.

Put me off green for months. Put me off Elves for life. That's probably the main reason that I started playing black. Black kills things.

Lets hope that they do a cycle of new/unused tribes. Rebels >> Soldiers. Kithkin >> Humans. Drawfs >> Golbins. etc.

I noticed that as well, but it though that it was such a blatantly obvious hint that somebody else would beat me to it.

Some of the older cards in my hap-hazard collection (I have around 400 random "old" cards from before 8th edition) have amazing flavour, and didn't really have that distinctive "magic" feel to them. Hopefully I can get that feeling back with Lorwyn.

Plus, I came into magic with Fifth Dawn, so I missed the Odyssey tribal bandwagon.

I've been working on my own RPG system for the last 5 years. (It's called Twilight, and may actaully be finished before the end of the universe. Maybe.) I had just made a first draft of my Monster Creation rules, and had to think of something to make.

Random neurons fire, and I end up creating a creature called a Grassdragon.

It's not an actual dragon, it got the name for the first people who saw it (and survived), and the title has stuck. It's actually a kind of mobile plant (imagine a miniature T-Rex minus the arms and eyes, and made from bark). It has long green strands coming off its back - that look like massive blades of grass - that it uses to absorb moisture, detect scents, and sense movement by changes in the air. It's a pacifist and gains its sustinance from water and sunlight, but can kill most adventurers with its sharp talons and teeth if attacked.

(I might just add an awful image I drew of it a couple of years ago to this post in the near future)

I made use of the deck change on the first day. Made a little WR build that turned out to be rubish (even managed to flood myself with only 16 lands). Remade it as WB Aggro and actually managed to win a round! (If you know how bad I am, this is quite an achievement.) Turn 2 Blade of the Sixth Pride, turn 4 Plague Sliver! I really hope that Delve appears again because it is just insane!

Second day I tried something new (for me), RG Beatdown. It seemed to work and I had fun with it (even though I went 1-5!). Stormbrow + lots of trample for the win!

Highlight of the weekend came from a trade with a nice young man named Scrabble (apparently he's a judge, been playing since revised, and might even play in the pro tour). In exchange for a couple of PC/FS rares that I had no intention of ever using (Akroma, Angel of Rage, Shivan Wumpus, Epochrasite, Torchling, Magus of the Vineyard, ect.) I got this massive pile of over 200 foils! (They were all common and uncommon, apart from a Brood Sliver and a couple of Kamigawa promo cards)

Can't help but feel that I somehow got ripped off...

EDIT: Thanks for the pm Soulflame. So I've 'traded down' for a large number of foils. I collect foils, and only keep rares in the hope of trading for more foils (apart from the black and white cards I'm hording for my little WB Zombie Madness build.

I'll be in Adelaide, Australia both days.

Just look for the slightly overweight guy with short brown hair, dressed entirely in green. (I would try and describe my pathetic little wannabe beard, but it defy description. Lets just say its thin and starts about halfway between my chin and my cheekbone.)

I should be at the very bottom of the ranking from the second round onwards.

I see Nix as an attempt at a solution to Ravager, about 3 blocks too late. (The least you could do would be to stop some of the artifact lands in the early game).

In terms of serious discussion, Nix would be a good hoser for the pact cycle (in the same way that Big Game Hunter and Shivan Meteor were good hosers for the bling dragon cycle).

"Boldwyn intimidator", I'm going to stake whatever dignity I can find that this is from Lorwyn block. They have 5 letters in common!

    Quote from Hunter
This was just on the news:

Newsflash! Police are investigating a mysterious death in the uptown of our city. A woman was found murdered at her home yesterday. Her husband, said to be working for an international toycompany based in America, has vanished without a trace. The police is calling forth witnesses and is also asking the help of the public in deciphering two clues that may shed some light on the gruesome happenings. In her hand the woman held a crumbled note with the mysterious text: "..... enchantment, instant, land, planeswalker, sorcery and tribal." Also, stabbed on her chest a kind of playing card was attached that reads as follows:

    Fatal Attraction 2R
    Enchantment-Aura
    Enchant Creature
When Fatal Attraction comes into play, it deals 2 damage to enchanted creature.
At the beginning of your upkeep, Fatal Attraction deals 4 damage to enchanted creature.

Does this mean the end of your card previews, Hunter? Or do you think the husband is going to show up at some point?

Love the stories, keep up the amazing work.

If I may just comment on the art... It's beautiful!

The pouncing pose really shows off flash. The fact that it is covered in gold stripes and has some kind of gold/pearl crown drives home the whole Aztec theme for me.

Plus, 3/3 flash for 4cc is always a good deal to me. The fact that it can protect me from potentially ANY targeting is just the icing on the cake.

You people are missing a very subtle clue about the new card types. Since the types listed in the reminder text are in alphabetical order, the two new types don't have a name that starts with "Aa-" through "Cr-".

EDIT: Not much of a clue, but a clue nonetheless.

If by three you mean "Three known cards across the entire block". The rule of three is if two expansions in a block do something, the third one does as well. Only one expansion in this block has had Bogardan natives thus far, and it only has two. Two cards does not a trend make, and even less so in a single expansion when you're talking about an entire block.

Damn. This card is so bad it is actually limiting my ability to think rationally!

Wasn't there a mechanic just like Absorb 1 in one of the custom sets on this forum? (Was it Broken Borders? I can't seem to find it anyway).

EDIT: I think that Reach should be Range instead.

    Think about it

    1G - Spiderclimb
    Enchantment - Aura
    Enchant creature
The enchanted creature has range (It may block as though it has flying).

He's Bogardan. In TSP block. Ergo, he should have flash and a CIP ability, because that's what Bogardans *do* in this block.

Interesting. I'll add "Rule of Three" to the list of things this card does badly.

    "Cranberry Cricken"?

    You, good sir, are sick.

In all seriousness, this does at least sound better than the wording on Mesmeric Sliver, but I still think something like "then Scry 2 that player" would work. But bounce and fateseal for 5? Seems just a little bit overcosted.

EDIT: Was the photocopies pic attached to THE TOP of the pizza? Eww.

My money is still on "Mount" (or some variation like "Transport" or "Backup") as one of those new card types. Would seem to fit (although I doubt many people would want to ride on a Sliver, even one of the nice looking ones).

And yes, the use of Fateseal really grates with my sense of grammar. Problem is, I can't think of anything that would sound better and still be in flavour.

EDIT: What's wrong with some sort of variation on
"When this permanent comes into play Scry 1 target opponent".
