If creature A deals damage to creature B, then later in the same turn creature A gains deathtouch somehow, is creature B destroyed (as a state based effect because the game sees a creature that has been dealt damage by a source with deathtouch)? Intuitively I would assume not, as when the damage was dealt, deathtouch was not present, but I could use a clearer explanation of the way this interaction works.
For a somewhat practical example, let's say I attack with a Razorclaw Griffon equipped with Rogue's Gloves and a Preeminent Captain, and my opponent blocks the captain with a Kird Chieftain. First strike damage is dealt, and I draw a card with the gloves' trigger. I draw Necrobite and cast it targeting the Captain. Is the chieftain destroyed?
702.2c A creature with toughness greater than 0 that’s been dealt damage by a source with deathtouch since the last time state-based actions were checked is destroyed as a state-based action. See rule 704.
704.5h If a creature has toughness greater than 0, and it’s been dealt damage by a source with deathtouch since the last time state-based actions were checked, that creature is destroyed. Regeneration can replace this event.
Again, I'm almost positive that in my example, the Kird Chieftain lives, I just want to be absolutely sure.
