the buddy-buddy relationship between Shanna and Raff is classic. Kinda reminds me of Tangarth and Squee. speaking of which...no Minotaurs on the new Weatherlight crew? really?

Also, I'm wondering if Lili's new soul searching was inspired in any way by Jace's rather harsh treatment of her. It's easy to use, manipulate and discard people you don't really care about. but I imagine watching her bridge with Jace get burned to cinders might be a real come-to-Serra moment for good ole Lili.

    SLIMEFOOT! YAY!!!!!
Now the party can officially start.

"Because she agrees with us that it has to be done before we face Nicol Bolas again. I don't even know what you're asking me. Are you trying to find out why my first impulse isn't to use information given to me in strict confidence by one friend to manipulate another friend?"

"No, of course not!" Liliana strode away.

Slimefoot heard Gideon murmur, "Her capacity to lie to herself is almost infinite."

Wow. seems like Gideon knows Lili better than she knows herself. (although that doesn't seem to be much of an accomplishment).

Yeah, but don't forget, Bolas has overpowered Oldwalkers, too. He got his start by taking out a giant leviathan PW, and in Spiral he made light work of both Teferi and Leshrac.

Depends on what you think the Gatewatch should be focusing on right now. if the focus is Beating the Big Bad, then Jace and Ajani are still doing what they should be doing. Ajani is looking for allies to fight Bolas, and Jace is heading back to Rav with a focus on formulating a way to stop him. if the focus is helping whatever plane you're on at the time, then Lili is technically on task, because the biggest problem on Dominaria is Belzenok, which she just happens to be on a mission to seek and destroy. in Jace, Chandra and now Teferi you have the best of both scenarios. they are going after the Cabal, but the ultimate goal is to get strong enough to take another shot at Bolas. Gideon wants Liliana unfettered by her demon pacts so she can take on Bolas at full strength - and he also might want that blackblade. Chandra is using the Cabal mission as training so she can be better against Bolas. we don't know exactly why Teferi takes the oath yet, but I'm sure he's also eager for a rematch against Bolas.

Maybe this Cylix was the weapon decapitated Urza head was thinking about when he suggested the Weatherlight crew blow up half the plane to kill Yawgie?

Urza just happen to bury this artifact in Yavimaya? Close to the site where he ended the Brother's War with the Golgothian Sylex? You know assuming we go with Time Spiral updating the location from Argoth. While slapping a similar name on the object in Question? And said you know what Multani will protect it? That seems like a hell of a stream of coincidences to me.

Meanwhile Teferi had to go tomb raider for his artifact. I said Urza's last defense wasn't Oldwalker Proof but this one especially was not at all. You think Urza would put more protection on device capable of at least according to Karn destroying an entire plane.

And don't forget, Autumn, This Cylix was buried in Yavimaya, under the direct protection of Multani. without the help of two pyromancers and a time mage, Karn's attempts to get the Cylix would have been just as futile as Teferi's attempts to get his Urza artifact.

The cylix spelling thing is prickly. I can remember it being spelled "Cylix" on certain pieces of media and "Sylex" on others. there was a huge debate, and much bloodletting over the issue back then, if I remember correctly.

the whole "timing" issue between Chandra's stay on Dominaria and Jace's return can be explained. remember, it took a bit longer than mere days for Jhoira to rebuild the Weatherlight and put the band back together. so from the time that Chandra bolted to find Jaya and her return, that time could have (in theory at least) have passed. Also, we have no evidence that time flows the same on Ixalan as it does on Diminaria. so 2 months on Ixalan could equate to less on Dominaria. it's possible.

Roster update time: The Jace predictions were wrong, as he came and promptly left, probably heading to Ravnica for some Guildpacting. And he doesn't like Liliana anymore, but that's another thread.
Jaya's now official, and she brought Chandra and Karn with her. the big question is whether Karn is going to stick around, or if he's going to go ahead and take that Cylix to new Phyrexia.
Also. Multani's back, but it doesn't look like he's interested in joining up.

So with Digges now being gone (and the thread discussing that going waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off the rails), do you think his absence will have a negative effect on MTG storytelling going forward? or if you weren't a fan of his influence, do you think things will improve now that he's gone?

Cool story, introducing the other major players of the story (Jaya, Karn, Multani, Chandra...basically everyone but Squee), and confirming what a few of us suspected all along about Mother Luti. Quite a few of the predictions by this group have been spot on. hope this doesn't mean MTG storylines are getting to be too predictable.
Looks like Chandra is going to be hanging around longer than I expected. I actually thought she was just going to run into Jaya at Regatha, and send her to Dominaria while she continued training or something. yeah I know that sounds dumb, but that's what I thought.

Also, I just realized...they're bringing the old Weatherlight band back together...without a Minotaur? how they gonna disrespect Tangarth like that? I call foul.

Why is this "unsettling news"? It's an occupational choice. People make those all the time.

there's a chance, though, that the choice wasn't his to make.

MTG Creative has made a lot of strides under Digges. He'll be missed.

To those who were arguing about Teferi settling down and starting a family, it looks like this story is your answer...or at the very least more fodder for debate.
It looks like Martha Welles was reading your minds...

Frankly, it feels like Raising Steam, Terry Pratchett's second-to-last novel snd a farewell to Ankh-Morpork characters. The characters like Moist, Vetinari, Vimes are all there, but feel weird.

    By the way...
Any excuse to reference Terry Pratchett and Discworld is a good one.
    that is all.

Was it discussed somewhere by Wizards why, on the 25th anniversary and on the most prominent plane in Magic history, they decided to only do a one set block? A lot of our issues with representation of other Dominaria things and the rushed story could have been solved by having more than one set. Seems strange to me. I mean, we're still having four sets a year, right? They couldn't dedicate at least two for such a big anniversary? Shrug.

MaRo said that the 2-set paradigm was kind of a fail, so that's part of why they switched to one big set at a time.
HOWEVER, he also said that Creative was no longer beholden to the "New block, new plane" standard. so they do have the freedom to have back-to-back big sets on the same plane, if the storyline dictates. So there is a possibility, however slim, that the next set will still be on Dominaria.

Also, how do we know killing all the demons won't wipe out their deals with Liliana? What kind of system would that be if you could just kill them and keep what they gave you? That would also be a twist if by killing her last demon, she destroys their gifts and speed-ages.

...which would have her desperately searching for a new solution, and could put her....

    ...wait for it....

    ...right In Bolas's Clutches!
