May 2, 2018Gerrard's Mom posted a message on All Sets Are Good: Legendshyalapterouslemur broke the mechanics down well, but interestingly, the flaws we might find with Legends are almost all due to the incredible shifts in game literacy and game design theory that we have seen in the decades since this set came out. There are many cards here that are not fun because they slow down play, hose really specific strategies, or seem cool but are not efficient enough to play in most formats. Many cards break the current color pie and there are not really any cohesive themes that make the cards play together in fun ways as a set. Sure it's a bit of a fallacy, but it's totally valid to look back and say this set was all over the place if we accept a modern design standpoint.Posted in: Articles
Nobody is denying that there are powerful cards, flavorful cards, or design innovations that had a big impact on sets to come - this article is talking about what is good about the set, after all. In the spirit of this article series, please feel free to share what you love about Legends, but recognize that the article's point is not to say that Legends is "bad".
Anyway, I'd say Born of the Gods is probably your next best bet for sets people like to dump on. Maybe Dragon's Maze. -

On the other hand, the original ability here was pretty prescient - just got printed as Morophon, the Boundless.
Final Salvation
We skipped from the first CCL in 2007, ahead four years at a time revisiting past mechanics. Subject16 and void_nothing made it to the present, and have prepared a set of cards following some design notes from this year while tying it in to some meta flavor.
Get to voting!
Challenge:
Create any number of cards that collectively fulfill all of these criteria
Final Salvation
And now we jump the final four years in the history of the CCL to the present. Good times and thanks for the fun, to all past hosts and competitors!
Competitors:
Subject16
void_nothing
Challenge:
Create any number of cards that collectively fulfill all of these criteria
Deadline:
Can we make it by Thursday at like noon Pacific time? Looking to run the poll for at least 2 days.
Just to clarify this again, while those certainly are different CMCs and therefore different mana costs, you can ALSO have different mana costs within each CMC, like the example explicitly laid out on the card.
Fun card but I don't know how this is in a core set instead of like Modern Horizons - multiple people here have already confused how it works.
The land is the most interesting card of Eventide's for me, but soft countering every turn seems kind of unfun. Hemlock's land ability is clean and cool.
Eventide's atog fits a Dominaria theme but it seems really hard to do much fun with. Eating historic stuff would have opened some possibilities. The Forceatog is an interesting source of burst damage, feels like it could almost be red.
Neither of the lords really did anything new.
Sorry about the color identity Algernone I may be totally making this up as I go...
Creature - Artificer (R)
Whenever a Plains enter the battlefield under your control, create a colorless Equipment artifact token named Razorgrass Blade. It has "Equipped creature gets +1/+1", equip 1, and living weapon (When that Equipment enters the battlefield, create a 0/0 black Germ creature token, then attach this to it.)
2/2
It makes BLADES OF GRASS and WHEAT GERMS
