Has anyone tried shatterstorm as sb tech against affinity? Costs 4 which is ALOT for burn but it sure as hell would be a huge blowout.

You'd probably be dead by the time you'd cast it.

Quite possibly but it's our only out against etched champion. Also with a bolt or two in hand for their critters we'd probably have time to cast it.. It's not in our best interest to play the control player usually but shatterstorm could change the gameplan completely as we probably have a more consistant topdeck than them (affitity's outs are mostly going to be cranial plating + critter as the'yre going to be dead before they can rebuild a board presence).

Anyways, I'm probably wrong here but I just wanted to see if anyone had tested it before.

@ikbuh good point regarding flames. It doesnt help that I'd also have a shard volley that I theoretically can't use until i've drawn my 3rd land and played the flames.

Regarding brimstone, I think it would be worth a try. Let's say you're on the draw (doesn't know you're playing burn) and opponent starts with fetching an untapped shock bringing him to 17, brimstone hits for 5 on turn 3 so we would only need four 3 dmg spells instead of 5 for the kill.

    Our "Wraths" are as follows:
    Pyroclasm
    Slagstorm
    Flamebreak
    Volcanic fallout
    Firespout

They all have +'s and -'s so this is a meta call.

Don't. You have 4-5 dead cards in your opening hand. If you had a goblin guide, it's ok, because it's repetitive damage, a blocker, it gains you time. But with a lava spike, mulligan. Tell yourself that you lose one card by mulligan but you had 4 dead cards anyway.

One more thing, what do you guys think about keeping a one lander with a lava spike and >2CMC spells? (Something like Spike, Mountain, Skullcrack, Hellspark, Shard Volley, Flames of the Blood Hand and Eidolon?
I would not keep that hand, the chances of not drawing another land are too high. If your on the play and you don't draw one turn two or three then you've basically lost the game.

Ok I may have taken it a bit too far, lets say my hand is Mountain, lava spike, rift bolt, skullcrack, shard volley, hellspark elemental, flames of the blood hand and I'm on the draw? I have 18 out of 57 chances of getting a mountain, so a bit over 30% chance of drawing a mountain and I have 2 draws to draw one hence giving me an approx 60% chance of drawing one which is quite good. For me personally I'd keep it given the odds, plus if we draw it on our third draw, it's still a close to decent hand (much better than getting flooded).

Here's what I've been running dailies with for the past two weeks, always seem to get 2-2 with it (4-0'd once and 3-1'd once). Merfolk is a pain, I've played the matchup maybe 3 times and seems like my smash just arent enough for his vials and chalice of the void, even though it is for affinity because you just need to hit their cranial with smash and bolt the steel overseers and your should be fine (lost once to double etched champion but I flooded 3-4 lands in a row and he was at 4). Besides that most matchups actually seem favorable if I draw correctly.

So, Serious question. I don't have the cash for Fetches and have been using Cities, Gemstone Mines, Pain Lands, and Fast Lands. Eidolon is fantastic, but there have been times where I've cast a bolt for that reads "Deal 3 damage to each player." Is it worth splashing B/W for Bump/Charm+Sideboard options, or should I go to mono-red as Eidolon seems to have bumped it into a sweet spot? Someone made a good point that Mono-Red could be doing well because there was a lack of Leyline to counter burn, and someone else countered with it's not worth boarding in a few cards to counter Leyline when you could instead play more of a sligh instead.

Which is honestly the better choice at the moment? They both seem to be doing just fine based on reports, and if that's the case, which is better for my situation?

I've been looking at mtgo results alot lately and most of the daily 4-0 and 3-1 lists are straight up red burn. I guess you just have to get lucky in not facing the leyline decks as there aren't that many. IMO they're our only "Un-winable" matchup.

Just started playing modern burn on mtgo this weekend and got the following finishes:

Daily #1 - 4-0 This daily sold me on the deck, it just seemed so streamlined and consistently being one step ahead of my opponent.

Daily #2 - 3-1 (lost against boggles.. not much i could do here)
Daily #3 - 0-2 (lost to a mirror and UW control who ran leylines)
Daily #3 - 2-2 (lost to twin and another leyline deck)

I'm running the normal burn package with hellspark and spark elementals as well as eidolon and goblin for creatures. As for spells, it's similar to the lists above but I removed the flames of the blood hand. I just felt like skullcracks were enough to mitigate lifegain and they cost 3.

I would really like having an answer for the leylines, wear // tear would be awesome but I don't have the fetches to go Rw and getting duals and white in will probably slow down the deck a bit. Thoughts?

Just wanted to share my results with the deck as it certainly is a viable deck for dailies.

    Cheers!

I was thinking of all the removal these colors provide us and it's pretty insane. Here's a untested decklist of what I had in mind:

This is an untested decklist, but I really want to get back into magic after the RTR Block rotates out so I don't want to invest in any cards that will be rotating out in 3 months.

I'm a casual player that likes to go to FNMs once in a while so nothing too competitive, I want a deck that can win a few matches against the proven decks.

    What do you guys think?

If you have a spell on top you start with kiora, and then jace to set up for a land (lets say you run 26 lands out of 60 cards is 43% of your deck so chances are you'll find one land in three cards). I'd probably run this in conjunction with the new nissa in a land heavy deck and throw in a soul of new phyrexia or two with all that fog. Anyways, not saying this would see competitive play but it sure would be something fun to play with. Or maybe I just want this jace to be good wayyyy too much lol.

with him, courser and kiora on the field you can dig and ramp a ton. start the turn with a land on top? play it, then if you have another land on top use kiora, draw and play land and then jace to set up next turn, if not you can use jace to set up your next card and then use kiora. I don't know but digging 3-4 cards plus playing 2 lands a turn seems pretty good. In a turbofog list maybe? digging for continuous fogs until you hit your win con or ultimate kiora would be worth a try if you ask me.
