Hi Guys,

First post in competitive and I'm a little worried about breaking some kind of rule, but here goes:

I've heard a lot of opinions on Ajani, Mentor of Heroes in the Standard Aggro Meta, and a lot of them posit that he is too high on the Mana Curve. However, I think that as the end of a 5 turn combo, he's pretty deadly, and here's why:

1. Turn 1, mana and Experiment One or Soldier of the Pantheon
2. Turn 2, Voice of Resurgence or another two drop
3. Turn 3, if you go first, Loxodon Smiter if you don't go first, leave mana open for Rootborn Defense or some other anti-Supreme Verdict card
4. Turn 4, again situational. If you go first, drop another Soldier of the Pantheon if you go second and have already blocked their Supreme Verdict, go ahead and drop a Loxodon Smiter or Brimaz, King of Oreskos
5. Turn 5, drop Ajani, Mentor of Heroes and start beefing/smacking

The great thing about this combo is that even if they manage to wipe your beefed up board with another Supreme Verdict, you can get your card advantage back with Ajani's secondary +1. This gives you the ability to keep up with the tempo and creature removal of control/removal decks

In a fight against a mono-black deck, drop a Aegis of the Gods as your 2-drop. If they can remove it, that consumes their creature removal on turn 3 so they can't go with Lifebane Zombie. If they can't remove it, Lifebane and Thoughtseize become useless.

Thoughts on this in the standard meta? Would love some opinions!

Honestly? Meh.

Too many temples to be "aggro". Domri seems really out of place. Scavenging Oooze is NOT aggro. If you're going Naya, where are the Boros Charms? Iroas is pretty bad. I prefer Brave the Elements over Gods Willing, however Experiment One makes it awkward.
Iroas as a 4cmc drop in an "aggro" deck is terrible. If Iroas wer 3cmc he would be a.. god! Haha :p

Shocklands are the only viable solution in a 3 color aggro deck. And 4 Mana Confluence but, ugh, that's gonna hurt.

Play what you like though, don't change YOUR playstyle or enjoyment based on what strangers say on a forum.
Solid advice, though I like to be sure I won't get Roflstomped at FNM. I can see your point about Iroas, I do wish he were a 3-drop (but then I feel he'd be broken).

I dunno, I feel as the end to your first 4 turns he nicely rounds out a solid attack. Assuming your opponent has played 3 creatures the first 3 turns (or 4 in their first 4) they can only block 1-2 of your three creatures, meaning definite damage, and you can likely kill 1-2 of their blockers, meaning when you hit again next turn they can block even less.

But maybe it works better in theory than practice

I'm surprised. I can understand the Scooze swap (I have lots of options to replace him with). I'm lacking Boros Charms because the deck is really just splashing red for Iroas and Domri, though I suppose I could swap the Selesnya Charms for the Boros Charms instead.

On that subject, Domri is to keep up pressure post-Iroas drop by continuing to pump cards into my hand or as removal with his fight club mechanic. As for Iroas, I really fail to see how he's bad AT ALL. He pretty much ensures damage without repercussion during attacks with at least 3 monsters in play, and I wittle away at his defense line in the process.

I put in the temples to prevent mana problems, what would be your suggestion instead?
