GoT: Game of Thrones
Maesters: Men who devote their lives to studying and mastering all types of fields, from medicine to alchemy to warcraft, who are then assigned to a keep to administer to the needs of it's people, neutral to the politics of the family who controls it. They wear large chains around their necks, and each link represents mastery of a particular field.
Alright I tried to make a thread like this several days ago, with an Unsullied theme, but the general consensus was that it would be standard R/W legends, which I've played before. So I did some thinking, and realized the Maesters from GoT were awesome, and decided a deck based around them would be fun.
Colors:
B/U/W seemed perfect, white gets the good side of the maesters, with lifegain and the like, blue gets the intellectual side, with counters and card draw and tricks, and black the dubious morality that some maesters display, like Pycelle, and the even more dubious practices some like Qyburn.
Commander: Oloro, Ageless Ascetic makes sense to me, he's passive but allows a great deal of flexibility and flavor with his abilities. He can begin influencing the game on turn 1.
-]Amulets -- Almost every card on this page could have a place in this deck, signifying the Maester's chain, and different skills the maester has acquired.
-If (and I believe it can be) Druidic Satchel can be played, it could add utility in a way that compliments theme.
-Femeref Healer and any card like this that can 'tap: prevent damage' would be a good addition. Healer of the Pride would provide a strong source of lifegain while fitting the context. ]These are a situation kind of like the Amulets, where almost all of them could fit into the deck.
-A standard Counter suite is very helpful in my playgroup, so that could be included, while not breaking flavor. Any counters that are particularly 'Maester-y' would be an extra bonus
Wants:
-I would really like a few creatures that could represent some tough fighters I could play to push toward a win, with help from my Maesters. The characters I would really like to represent are:
Ser Ilyn Payne - Flavorful with cards like Executioner's Swing and Public Execution
Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane - Some tough soldier fatty I could slap a Sword of Vengeance on, or that buffs itself or some strong effect.
-I could use useful enchantment suggestions, I'm not very good about how many to use/which ones work well. I suppose card draw and life gain are always good. I'm not sure what other flavorful effects I could use.
Any strong additions that would provide utility or flavor are always welcome. Any other Commander options are welcomed. Any help at all is welcome, really.
I like Moltensteel Dragon because he's versatile, But I don't know who he'd represent.
That being said, the main priorities for me are to build up an army of unsullied and get creatures to represent Daario, Jorah and Barristan, (who we have covered.)
Hello all, Game of Thrones is my current obsession, and commander is my favorite format. So let's do this.
(If there's anything spoilery in card inclusion reasoning, include alerts at least, I've only finished the first book along with the whole TV series.)
Grey Worm is a favorite character of mine, and the unwavering loyalty of the Unsullied (coupled with the tragedy that inherently comes with the idea of orphaned warrior-eunuchs) has created easily likable characters that back Daenerys. I want to craft a flavorful deck with Grey Worm as my commander.
Things I would like to have in the deck:
-Faithful representation of the Unsullied and Grey Worm (Ideas that immediately come to mind are Tajic, Blade of the Legion and Assemble the Legion, but I feel standard R/W Battalion could lose sight of the flavor/be boring) Wall of Spears seems to be an auto include.
-At least two creatures who are controlly/lockdown/combat tricky to represent Jorah Mormant and Ser Barristan Selmy
-Some kind of creature Deathtoucher/Otherwise nasty trick to represent Daario Naharis.
-Slavery/Rebellion/Mercenary would be a great subtheme, but I don't want to get lost in card interaction like with Allies.
-If it would be possible, three dragons to represent Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion (Not super important because I care more about the Army that supports Dany as opposed to her and her dragons.)
-If the dragons are included, I would like a Daenarys type creature. Maybe Kaalia of the Vast? But she's too situational for how few dragons there would be.
-Artifacts and spells should generally stay flavorful, e.g. Firebolt (Fire and Blood/Dragons/Generally very Targaryen) Dragon Throne of Tarkir (Perfect for the Iron Throne) Throne of Empires,Crown of Empires, Scepter of Empires. These lend themselves to Unsullied flavor and Iron Throne/Rulership/Power Struggle flavor.
I'm completely open to suggestions of any kind, colors are up for fluctuation, nothing is necessarily permanent.
It has always seemed to me, that when playing Sharuum, a lot of your deck is chosen for you, so to say. The artifacts you run are going to be roughly the same sort of combo-y stuff. I couldn't list them off the top of my head, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of variation, at least not in the ones I've seen.
Generally when you play an artifact heavy deck, it feels like a lot of the choices are made for you. I may be wrong, but I would play Brago if you want lots of variety.
If you're okay with Storm, you could take a look at my Keranos list for reference (link is here), as it runs pretty similar to a Melek list. There are also a couple good comments from Rowen in the thread that are worth looking at.
There are a few good Melek lists on the site as well, I believe.
If you don't like the deck, you can always evolve it into something else, like adding a color for a general with a similar theme, and seeing if that gives you a theme you love. Having a starting place helps.
For example, I love +1/+1 counters. I branched out through Jund's colors until they printed Marath. After I played him once, I was sold on his flexibility with my favorite mechanic. Once you figure out what it is you love to play, it will be easier to find a commander and colors to fit that.
I've actually read your Keranos thread before, and I like it, but storm has always intimidated me for some reason.
So I've done some thinking on the matter, and spell doubling may be a route I want to take. I'm still kind of wary about it, it seems like it would get a bunch of hate/be unfun to play against. Multiplayer would make it easier to deal with though. Melek, Izzet Paragon and Wort, the Raidmother are the two that I'm most interested in. I feel that Wort needs to run a burn heavy token deck? And I have no idea where to start with Melek really... Does he do a bunch of burn with a counter suite?
I was in the same dilemma a long time ago, before I decided to build my deck. The things you're looking for really remind me of what I was and still am looking for in a general. Everything about that I found with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. I think that you might be interested in reading my deck guide, it's linked in my signature. Hope that helps.
Very well done stuff. I haven't read it in full, but it's bookmarked and I'll be sure to look over it again.

Flavorful cards:
Elixir of Immortality, Elixir of Vigor,Thousand-Year Elixir. All the Elixirs are very 'Maester-y', as it's sort of representative of all the concoctions they make/have access to.

Tower of the Magistrate = Citadel?

Thanks!
Kamahl is an interesting choice for Grey Worm, but Mono-red would handicap me.
I may have to stick with R/W, I'm not sure though. I could use Eternal Dragon or Alabaster Dragon for Viserion, Balefire Dragon, Stormbreath Dragon or Flameblast Dragon, for Drogon (Really any "Deal damage to player/creature" dragon would work for Drogon. and possibly Fledgling Dragon or Siege Dragon for Rhaegal

Thanks for any help!
If you're on a budget, and really want Esper control, may I suggest Oloro, Ageless Ascetic?
EDIT: I should read more. Woops.
I've actually read your Keranos thread before, and I like it, but storm has always intimidated me for some reason.
Everyone replying to this has been very helpful.
More lands. at least 35 at a bare minimum.
Any suggestions or elaborations?
