I don't like it at all... But tenth is in the current frames so I doubt they'll use the new frames for anything other than to broadcast the "futureshifted" cards
I was mostly referring to the set, not the frames. With so many things that are 'back'-- only different. I mean, the plausibility in the rules for a lot of things in the set have been there, they just decided to go for all of them in one fell swoop. That's why I'm a bit concerned.
Maybe it's just me, but I think this is all too much too fast. We all knew, due to the (not so subtle) hinting by WotC, that they would be bringing back everything that they COULD do at some point. But right now, when I'm looking through the spoiler, it seems too much like change for the sake of change (Gogo rebel enchantments...).
I don't know about anyone else, but this set doesn't really feel like Magic. It feels like it belongs in a different game. As Flamebuster said, this set just doesn't fit in with the rest of the block that well.
I must admit, this is the first time I've been really pessimistic about a set. Nostalgia only works if we have experienced it a first time. Since this is a nostalgia block, it seems like MaRo wants us to be nostalgic of the future, which is kind of redundant and impossible.
That being said, I'm still most likely going to the pre-release and give it a shot.
P.S.-- Wow, it's been a while since I've posted, anyhoo, does anybody else think the timeshifted frame looks like the cards from the late Star Wars TCG? (Conveniently made by WOTC)
I'm 99% sure it can't be a Timeshifted Urza's Avenger, there would have been a banding insert in the rules primer if it was in the set, also, banding isn't even listed on the abilities set to return.
Edit: And my argument can be covered even further by the fact that banding isn't in the Orb...so I'll make that 100% sure.
Am I the only one confused on the redundancy on Akroma? I mean, why would they put uncounterability and morph on the same creature? It's interesting, sure, and the morph is still a useful 3 drop, but it just bugs me as to why they'd do it. I'm just hoping I never have to explain to a player that when I counter their morphed Akroma, it's really countered.:-/
Anyway, I'm very excited about Groundbreaker... (Goes on thinking about the awesomeness of WW if a white Memory Lapse made it into the set:rolleyes:).
I flipped through the podcast, (fastforwarding, not listening) and there were no new images, the only image that I saw having to deal with Planar Chaos was the image of Radha we already have. Although, there was a pic of Ambassador Laquatus, (the card), maybe they were talking about him coming back, but in terms of images, that's all we got. I'll edit this post after I listen if there is anything groundbreaking.
EDIT: I'm listening to it and the reference to Ambassador Laquatus was actually the author of the Planar Chaos book talking about the Torment storyline when asked about the favorite book he's written. So..., nothing really about the card set.
Of course, by default no one playing in the scholarship series can possibly be old enough to remember when the card was good. :-P
Unfortunately, that's not even true.:D I'm 17, and have been playing Magic for long enough to have played when this card was good (just, it's not good now...:D). Anyway, I'm just exited to get back into the "JSS," seeing how I haven't been able to play for the past 2 years. I hope the participation foil is better though, since I had to miss STE while I was too old...
This Scholorship Series has a weird feel, it feels like I've gone back in time 2 years in my life:cool:.
Just a small nitpick, while yes cards were always taken from the sideboard on a one for one basis before Research, often (in wake decks) a Mirari was involved, which left your sideboard at 14 cards anyway, so basically, that ruling has been outdated since it was printed.:D
Interesting idea, but it runs into memory issues. Wizards doesn't seem to like cards that require you to remember modes on permanents without some visual cue. I suppose it could be handled by marking the relevant side with a token, but I think the basic idea could be handled more simply with a more traditional flip card.
Which is exactly why they won't print split creature cards. Think about it, you'd have to use a token to remember which creature you chose, which is beyond what wizards uses with memory.
Although, flip cards don't seem so farfetched, maybe because of the speculation that they are doing abilities from MRD through DIS, which includes CHK block which had the flip cards, and as it also was mentioned, A. Ruel's submission was a flip creature, who could flip itself back and forwarth, with a triggered ability each time it flipped.
Yes you may do this, none of these are non-mana activated abilities or spells. A triggered ability would still go onto the stack with a split second spell on the stack, and you are still allowed to play mana abilities.
This just happened on MODO and I just want to make sure before I send a bug report. I had Shared Fate in play and had removed a Mistblade Shinobi, and the game was allowing me to use the Ninjutsu, I shouldn't be allowed to do that right?
I know it's not the best list, but I thought I should comment because I took the deck in a completely different direction than the deck in the first post.
This deck is a lot different in that instead of ending the loop and winning by attacking, it tries to deck your opponent with Jester's Scepter. Also, my mana base is smoother, only being in 2 colors. The biggest question I'm going to get about the mana, (I think), is why no Stomping Grounds, well, I don't run Heirarch because I'm only R/G, and I don't want to keep paying life to get lands into play that I can use to cast Warp World again.
If I cast Warp World, getting creatures and Pandemonium, does the Pandemonium trigger. Does the fact that the Warp World puts the enchantments into play later during the resolution make the difference?
Hey, I can dream can't I...

It's there because there is an artist named Zoltan Boros.

Overall, great article as per usual.
