The best way to describe it is it's sort of a Delver of Secrets that you control flipping. You get to hold up cheap permission to protect it and if they tap out or low enough, you can pump and protect it, etc. It does some damage, dies, and then you burn them out.
It's not hard at all really. And you just have to be judicious with activating it. You shouldn't be planning on playing it on turn 1 and having it go all the way. Sometimes you play it on turn 1 and they kill it, sometimes it lives and becomes a 4/4 and puts them into burn range. You're playing a bunch of other threats as well, so you don't have to rely on Figure.
So...this Figure of Destiny version of Jeskai that's been running around. Has anyone else been playing it? I've been on it for the past week or so, after it got posted in one of the recent 5-0 dumps. It also finished in the top 8 of GP Hong Kong today. I think it actually could be quite good.
I tried out that list shortly after it got posted and oh boy was it dog*****. 22 lands and Opt is not enough, it needs either more lands and keeping Opt or playing 22 and playing Serum Visions.
Had a disappointing 5-4 this weekend at Regionals. Unfortunate, but sometimes that's just how Magic works. Made a few changes from the standard Jeskai lists that I'll be trying over the next couple of weeks.
I'm not big on 3 Azcantas. I tried it and it just seemed like that was one too many graveyard based cards at 2 mana. Two seems to be the perfect number. If you do play three though, I think serious consideration should be given to Thought Scour as the cantrip of choice.
I've been iffy on Sphere in general. I think it's good enough to have in the board, but I wouldn't bring it in for the matchup. I feel like the times you get to extra spell in a run you are already ahead, so Sphere isn't that relevant. Do you think of it differently?
I ran up against Hollow One in a league last night, which was nice to get a few games in. I've got a Settle in the main right now over the second Verdict, as well as an Anger in the board so I can dedicate my Paths to the big stuff more often. Considering a mainboard Abrade since it has such great crossover with the Humans matchup.
I'm pretty high on Anger right now too, as well as Settle.
This is what I'm working with at the moment as I prepare for SCG Louisville next week. Not a fan of the Negate in the main, so I'm trying out a Remand, and I'm trying to fit and Abrade somewhere in the 75. I might take the Remand slot, I'm not sure. It's great against both Hollow One and Humans, which is a huge sell for me. Also considering cutting the 4th Cryptic for something like a Clique or Gideon 4.
Hello Hollow One friends. I'm considering playing at SCG Louisville in a couple of weeks and I will be playing Jeskai. Our matchup certainly seems to be difficult from my side of it, and I was wondering if you guys had any advice for sideboard cards to look at for the matchup? Is graveyard hate really that good? Obviously access to Path is be, but we only have 4 actual and 8 functional copies.
Aaron Forsythe has previously said that if Jace were to be unbanned, it would have to come alongside a reprint. That, combined with their statements in the article, make me think that they had been looking at Jace for a while, and knew that this would be their chance to unban if they wanted to.
I've always preferred the Queller version because it gives you better tools to win your bad matchups. Nickolich must have some insane luck to just never play against Dredge, Tron or Valakut (though Halos help with the latter). I would much rather walk into an Open or GP with Queller than Control.
I've been trying out Settle the Wreckage as my 4-mana sweeper of choice since it interacts better with Geist and Queller than Supreme Verdict, is better against Dredge and can snipe a Thrun. I also think it is still under the radar enough that it has a surprise factor still. I'm most worried about the big mana matchups (hence the Molten Rains), more specifically the Valakut matchup. I know it's definitely beatable, but it's heavily dependent on a turn 3 Geist and having Logic Knots for their payoff spells. I've considered Flashfreezes in board, as well as Disdainful Strokes, just not sure on the way I want to go with the board plan yet. 3-mana Gideon has also been a consideration, alongside going up to 2 Runed Halos.
I'm also trying out the 6-cantrip version for this week, I'm usually playing 4 Opts and then +1 Colonnade and +1 Electrolyze. I've also been trying out the Avacyn for a couple of weeks now. It's felt good, but definitely airs towards the "win-more" side, though I do like the fact that it protects our threats in combat and from removal spells. There's every chance that it doesn't make the final cut.
I've had my eye on her, to be honest she seems a little medium to me; this would be for a flash list that only has 4 snaps 4 quellers 2 clique as the creaturebase, so there is no Geist to protect. Without that she'd be mostly just a Serra Angel with flash
Other than that she fits the bill quite well however; ideally I'd have a 5drop (pushproof but not too expensive) with flash that closes out the game quickly. With Rivals of Ixalan coming up I really hope the legendary blue dinosaur will live up to those standards
EDIT In other news I've started updating the OP from the ground up. Instead of adapting it to whatever flavour of jeskai is getting results in this month I am trying to keep it very general information majorly and having a section on subtypes as well, outlining what is doing the best right now without always having to completely redo everything
Any suggestions are highly appreciated: I'm writing the matchups of tier 1 right now which will always be met with disagreement
I would argue that playing a full flash list makes Archangel Avacyn even better because it protects your Quellers and Clique.

Thoughts? Feelings?
