Can you think of any fun stuff to use with the newly unbanned Painter’s Servant? It doesn’t seem to do much with the current build, but possibly opens up new avenues?

I like the changes so far. Had a couple of interesting games on Friday:

    • Narset, Enlightened Master went crazy early and finished their turn with a Karn Liberated at 14. On my turn, used Catch to restart the game. Narset proceeded to lose the following game quickly.
    • Finally had the chance to use the Precursor Golem combo after getting Traumatized and still having the pieces in my hand and library and drawing a ton of cards to get to it.

A cool potential add, while not turning any permanent into a creature/golem, Shields of Velis Vel (along with Blades and Wings of Velis Vel) could possibly do some cool things.

Altar of the Brood will mill with the Sakashima loop. Eldrazi would mess the loop up without Rest in Peace though. Good source of incidental mill otherwise.

For the other discard outlet, Nahiri’s Wrath would probably be my go-to. Possibly add Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Kormus Bell for the feel bad jank to avoid interaction. Those don’t add value elsewhere unless you want to run something like Karma to support it as well.

Been a while since I've posted here but I've been following along the way. Looking forward to your next update! Compared to your most recent list, I've reverted a bit back to the previous version. I was missing Nahiri's Wrath as an enabler for Barren Glory since I could never seem to have enough targets for Firestorm with how many cards I'm drawing. What are your thoughts on Spark Double as another Sakashima?

Edit: Meant to ask, are you looking to put this primer elsewhere since it looks like MTGS is closing down?

It's been a while since anyone posted here, but I have slowly accumulated the cards to build your version of this deck.

Mine originally included more harsh cards like Aggressive Mining, but I'd like to play the deck how you intended so I can get a better feel for how a less-hated Zedruu deck would run.

I'm currently 4 cards short from your list (Diamond, Sakashima, Mikokoro, Time Spiral), but decided to just use Sol Ring in place of Diamond and chose not to put in Mikokoro for the same reason you had for Temple Bell.

I don't have the deck with me right now, but I've slotted in Storm Entity and Capsize to help out your "Combo 1" and I'd like to hear your thoughts on those. Sure, Entity could be just a 1-shotter, but it would basically speed the combo up a bit, especially if one player doesn't have any blockers.

Sliver Overlord - 9 - My first deck, built to be purely Sliver tribal (with the exception of Sun Quan, Lord of Wu for fun), unlike most decklists I've seen with a ton of 'goodstuff' included. The deck is very resilient with the exception of graveyard hate. Once I start to get my graveyard filled, there is plenty of reason to worry. Can also easily win through conventional swarming tactics.

Thada Adel, Acquisitor - 7 - Built to copy and/or steal anything and everything. With the ability to have multiple Quicksilver Fountains, I can also throw quite a wrench into most strategies. Taking artifacts out of other decks is enjoyable as well.

Toshiro Umezawa - 6 - Just your typical 'kill everything with instants' build, but not too sure how I'd like it to win in general.

Experiment Kraj - 7 - Built as a combo deck revolving around Kraj, with either infinite mill or +1/+1 counters. Can work well if I come across my combo early or later in the game where I can put everything down and go off in the same turn.

Gabriel Angelfire - 3 - Mostly gimmicky, intended win condition involves Gabriel Angelfire, a creature with banding, a source of trample and a Lure effect. Can win through simple damage and Beastmaster Ascension if necessary. Nothing special, I consider it to be near the level of a precon even with the synergy.

The Gitrog Monster - 4 - Newly built, still really trying to figure out how I really want it to play.

I'll be building Zedruu the Greathearted which should be fun and definitely different.

No Careful Study, Cabal Ritual, Cephalid Colisseum, Nether Spirit, Oath of Druids, Chainer's Edict, Aquamoeba, Circular Logic, Astral Slide, Mirage Fetchlands, Pyrostatic Pillar, Gemstone Mine, Reanimate, Contagion, Priest of Titania, Lotus Petal or Goblin Matron.

Their selection of $0.50-2 and $4-10 commons and uncommons could have been much better, their selection of bulk rares could have been much better, they could at least have given us stuff that does not have a Modern border reprint and is played in Commander or Cube, instead we get a *****load of cards from the past 7 years that are readily avaliable in bulk binders and dime bins.

Anyone who buys this set above MSRP should rather use that money to threat their gambling addiction.

At least Konami had the balls to publicly state they went pachinko because gambling pays more than gaming.

Agreed, they could have chosen better bulk - deadbridge shaman, silent departure, glimmerpoint stag, etc. All of those cards could have been replaced with older cards. Overall, this set doesn't feel old-school nostalgic at all. I would have preferred more Portal, Three Kingdoms and pre-modern cards in the set. Boo on a wasted opportunity. Now, I'll just play the pre-release and that is it.

No pre-release for this. That just happens for new standard legal sets.

Experiment Kraj would be fine if you just put a bunch of activated abilities into the deck. However, the combos can be several pieces where some look rather unassuming by themselves. A simple example being that Bloom Tender and Horseshoe Crab goes infinite (green mana), while one is a simple mana dork and the other looks like it just allows you to add 2 counters per turn. Yeah, if you have them both in your hand, commander on board and a couple of available graft triggers you'd figure it out, but it isn't always obvious especially for a loaner deck.

Not combo like you probably mean (most of the lists I've seen are dredge combo), I'm going to build mine with Triskaidekaphobia, Tree of Redemption and Magus of the Mirror as a wincon, at least initially.

I have a Thada Adel, Acquisitor deck that has an overall copy/steal theme with stuff like Quicksilver Fountain and Whim of Volrath to get through and and either take stuff that helps me or exile what I don't want to deal with later.

Definitely not like Arcum, Sharuum or Daretti, but fun nonetheless.

I have a Gabriel Angelfire deck that can work well at times, but requires several pieces to work as I intend it to. It revolves around banding and Gabriel's rampage. Since it requires my commander, a banding creature, something that grants trample, a lure effect and creature-heavy opponents it doesn't work as intended a lot of the time. I had to add a Beastmaster Ascension to help out. Many of my creatures are (very) sub-par and high-costed banders, so this route is much slower but works occasionally. Otherwise I'll chip away with my commander or something like Teeka's Dragon, lol.

Overall, I usually play the deck when I know it'll be a slower game.

I really like Ingot in my Sliver Overlord deck so as to have a target for Harmonic Sliver if I've destroyed everything already, or want to keep some things around.

After seeing this deck in action I must say that it is fairly balanced. Nothing truly came up as overpowered or unfair, though some Fiend Hunter + Blink/Bounce shenanigans were obnoxious at times. Overall I feel like the deck is great for Casual Magic players and more advanced players just for the fun of sitting down and playing with specific cards.

    Final Score: 7/10

Man if you blink that guy he will just return the creature and you will exile another. How ever, the one that kills zombie is op because he will kill an infinite number of zombies when infinite is the number of blinks you have.

"9/22/2011 If Fiend Hunter leaves the battlefield before its first ability has resolved, its second ability will trigger and do nothing. Then its first ability will resolve and exile the targeted creature indefinitely."

Out of the rules that can be find in the Gatherer. So if you blink "that guy" before his first ability has resolved you will exile one creature permanantly and another one from his second etb trigger.
So yeah, this guy is pretty nice with the Momentary Blink in the deck.

I believe you they made this rule how ever I do not find the logic. The second ability says: When it lives the battlefield... All the cards that blink remove a creature from play and then they return it. In other words the creature returns into play after it leaves, so yeah, the second ability should trigger. The rule is artificial as colorless mana is.
I like playing with blessed and I do not think it needs this rule to win. So when I am playing with my friends, when you blink it, it will leave the battlefield and trigger his second ability. It makes no sense to may otherwise, as much as it makes no sense to play colorless mana with generetic mana. Play as you like because it is your game. Happy playing and enjoy this product!

The reason it works like this is that the second clause does not apply until the first resolves. Unlike the newer cards with similar abilities that have both parts in the same sentence. In the newer cases, this doesn't work because essentially both sentences from Fiend Hunter and Oblivion Ring. Compare those to something like Banishing Light, where you can clearly see that they patched over something that was broken.

  • posted a message on Lower Power Level/Interesting Builds
Not sure if it is what you are looking for (obsolete mechanics), but I recently built a Gabriel Angelfire Rampage/Banding deck that has its moments, but has a really low power level since I wanted to focus on a lot of Banding and Lure effects to take advantage of my commander and Teeka's Dragon. Its other win-con is a Beastmaster's Ascension. The Banding is not only for getting a bunch of Rampage triggers, but to also to get rid of (or deter) attackers.

    I'd consider it on-par with a pre-con.

Otherwise, I like the watermark idea.
