@SilvergillMaster I was just about to inquire about Coco Merfolk haha. I think you're right about the control cards, that seems like it would really hurt.
What's the opinion on discard in general in grixis twin? It seems like it's better in the sideboard rather than the mainboard, and probably as a two-of. However, between Inquisition/Thoughtseize/Duress what do you all find to be the most efficient discard package?
As the modern meta has continued to develop, unfortunately I have started to drift away from this deck; it just seems to lack power compared to many other decks. Has anybody else been experiencing this lately? The lack of counter spells, hand disruption, and targeted removal just makes this deck inferior to other decks. Don't get me wrong, I love the dream hand of the Ghost Arbiter lock, but how often does it happen? It seems like twin combos off and kills us on turn 4 way more than we lock them out. Hatebears tries to play the game fair and force the opponent onto a level playing field, but at that point why don't I play Abzan and be able to go over the top in fair matchups? Plus, it seems unfair that they get to play legacy staples while we play some past-standard staples that barely cut it in modern as vanilla beaters. With all this being said, don't get me wrong, I still love the deck. However, it just feels inherently very weak to me. I don't know where the deck will go from here, I guess it just depends on innovation from you guys keeping the deck alive. Hopefully some new things can be printed to boost the power level of this deck, but for now, I guess I'm probably retiring it.
How so? The modes seem pretty weak to me, and it doesn't hate the opponent in any way. I'd rather run Selesnya Charm over this command, and I don't even like the charm. We have enchantments covered through Qasali Pridemage, a single +1,+1 counter seems weak to me, the fight ability is okay, and I guess the prevention mode counters a Lightning Bolt or a Pyroclasm/Anger? I don't know, it just doesn't seem like the kind of card this deck wants.
What's the general consensus between Volcanic Fallout, Pyroclasm, and Anger of the Gods in the sideboard? I feel that 2 clasms and 1 fallout may be the sweet spot right now, with an Engineered Explosives to compliment it, but I'm not exactly sure. Thoughts?
Also, what is your guys' opinion on Gauntlet of Power? Has this card helped you enough to nullify the downside of helping opponents? Have there been instances where the group hug-ness has screwed you over? Just interested in hearing your thoughts.
Is Sheoldred, Whispering One really good enough to warrant an inclusion? This may be a stupid question as I'm new to Chainer, but does the effect really add up all that much or is Sheoldred just a fatty with a gigantic target painted on her head, especially in a more competitive meta?
On another note, which is better: Grim Haruspex or Infernal Tribute? Or do they perform completely different roles in the deck?
How is Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver? Has anybody ever tried testing it? And on another note, is Think Twice just not good enough for modern anymore? I can't decide. When it's good it's good, when it's bad I wish I had a more proactive card. Thoughts?
I was running Gryff for a while when it first came out. It was never very good. The best use I usually got out of it was responding to Snapcaster Nage. Most of the time it was just an underwhelming 3 drop, and I was losing out on pressure by replacing more threatening cards with it. I ran it in several PTQs last season and did not have very good results with it. The deck was better before, and I came to the conclusion that Gryff was just watering down my game plan. My list that I took to GP Minneapolis was a lot stronger, and I've been having better results since I've dropped Gryff from my list.
@Epi: The list looks solid. I've not played with Ajani Steadfast, but it seems good. Lifelink and First Strike are some of the main reasons I like Baneslayer Angel so much. I like Orb more than Gryff in the sideboard, and would probably double up on it before running a 1/1 split. I also don't know if you need 2x Fracturing Gust, but I suppose it's a card that will win games just by resolving one. I've actually added in a Gaddock Teeg to my list and have been fairly happy with him. He's not nuts, but he does a fair amount of disruption against a lot of decks.
@vegantoad: I haven't played Rebuff the Wicked, but I could see where it can be good against certain decks. I really like 1 mana instants, and also like the idea of countering Cryptic when they try to counter/bounce (usually targeting Choke). My list is pretty tight and I'm not sure where I would make room for it. It could be worth testing though.
Ive discovered more than ever lately that there is no constant set list, and Hushwing Gryff is no exception. So what I've been doing is carrying around 2 Gryff's and 2 Mirran Crusader's with me, so I can change my deck to beat whatever kind of meta I predict.
This is just a rough list I threw together that focuses more on the decicated control route by not committing very much to the board. Let me know what you guys think. The sideboard hasn't been created yet.
