What do you all think of a more midrange build of the deck? I'm tired of getting hit with all the sideboard cards that people have for mono red. This is what my list looks like right now. Sure you sacrifice some of your explosive starts, but we still have toolcraft into 2 drops. The sideboard needs work.
what's everyone's opinion on running an elsepth knight errant in the side board. she comes in all the same spots as the 3rd entreat or a keranos would come in (grindy MU's like BUG and stoneblade)but she is a trump in the mirror. The mirror relies so much on jace, and elsepth is the jace killer. Not to mention she is another 4 drop to counter jace with a counterbalance and she cannot get red blasted like jace.
ive been running patrick dickmanns list he posted on twitter right when junk was on the rise (pre khans) during last ptq season. i've been testing alot with my buddy who plays bg/x and so far its been about pretty 50/50 Huntmaster is a house against these decks, even if it seems like a 2/2 wolf isnt that great. literally every time i get a huntmaster out and he flips just once, i win the game. also keranos is a beating against bg/x.
So in my opinion if you want to beat bg/x you want huntmaster and keranos.
Ya I'm really liking the ponder build. At first i didn't like miracles too much, but after switching to the 4 ponder build it feels like i have so many more shuffles if needed and I can find top way easier. Nothing against Joe Lossett's build, its awesome too, i just feel for a miracles noobie like myself finding top easier is more important right now. And playing with so many plows (4 plus 3 snapcasters) feels like training wheels.
Hi I've been wondering why people don't try preordain over ponder in the 4 ponder lists. It seems like alot of times with ponders i just want one card and the rest are bad. unless i have a fetch also, I'm stuck drawing those three cards. Anyone tried 4 preordain in the ponder slot? or maybe a split of the two?
Hi, Is there any way to un-alter a card, like strip some of the paint off? The card I'm buying has the name covered up, and i would like to strip the paint off to make it more judge and tournament legal/friendly.
hm, thats an interesting idea, not sure if Stony is better than ancient grudge. I used to play stony in my UWR lists and I've still lost games to affinity on turn 2 stony. Ancient grudge seems like it does enough work in the affinity matchup. Plus i like it against other things like batterskull.
Just curious but I've been seeing UR twin lists lately that do not run any spellskites mainboard, and some even without them in the mainboard. It seems like spellskite is the perfect card, and I'm just curious as to why people choose not to mainboard them.
I think helix is cut because zoo is not a very popular deck, so the only matchup helix really shines is affinity and maybe merfolk. Against decks like jund and pod, your life totals aren't as relevant as board state and card advantage, so in those matchups, helix just serves as extra bolts. which two mana bolt isn't worth it a lot of the times. Currently I'm running two helix, but I have been thinking about cutting them all together for either main board shadow of doubt or think twice. I feel like cycling through our deck is more important than gaining 3 life in the current meta game (not a lot of zoo)
Also affinity doesn't even really function as a normal aggro deck, they are more of a combo deck, killing you in one shot. If you can't handle their important cards, even a helix's lifegain wont' save you because they are doing absurd amounts of damage early on in the game.
Is this bayou tournament playable? i bought it for 30 dollars lol. you can't visually see a difference if it is a completly opaque sleeve, but the corner of the sleeve does bend easier at that location since there is no card material there to keep it stiff.
I think people run tec edge over ghost quarter because UW/x decks can't afford to 1 for 0 themselves. tec edge is a 1 for 1 always. ghost quarters is more for decks that don't operate on very many lands like hatebears/aethervial decks. UW/x your always trying to keep card advantage, and ghost quarters does the opposite of that.
in my opinion its not worth running. i've tried both lists and enjoy the control build more. honestly they are just two different decks, with different play styles. If you do play kiki, note that playing against a full uwr control is a tough match since you have to cut so many cards to make way for the kikis and walls.
the kiki versions runs more like a tempo deck, but IMO if you want to play a tempo combo deck, i would just play twin. The kiki UWR tries to be two decks at the same time, and I personally would rather just stick with either a full control build, or play combo twin.
what do you guys think about siding in 4 geist versus tron and other decks with inevitability such as scapeshift, the mirror, and storm?
i played the post board MU against scapeshift and it seems to help, also against RG tron even if they resolve a turn 4 karn, a geist clock is pretty damn quick.
