Remember even i Legacy gets less support EDH (sorry Commander) still sucks em up when they can get em. The general guideline with duels is the best time to buy is always now historically they always recover from losses and go up.

    Quote from APurePhyrexia »
I skimmed a bit through the manifesto of the Unabomber ( a lot of points repeated and whatnot, and some of his ideas seem a bit out there), and found myself with a question.

Is technology our downfall? Are most of the problems that we suffer purely from our own making and our desire for "progress"? It raised a few interesting questions, though I don't think that justifies his actions.

But that aside I want to know you guys thoughts? Are we digging our own grave under the illusion that we are saving ourselves?

No Technology is our salvation, it has repeatedly improved and bettered the lives of humans everywhere. While their may have been some growing pains, and still are some, overall the good made far outweighs the minor price paid, With out technology, we would likely, not be living past 30, suffering from massive hardship just to survive, have 100000's of people die from preventable disease, not be be able to effectively communicate with our fellow man,

Wow what a difference, Our store quite often deliberately "spice" up their bargin bins with afew $5-$35 cards just to get people interested in "finding the treasure" and often get quite afew inpulse buys becuase of it. "oh missed out finding any value but this card is great for abc. what a difference.

Wotc is making the smart choice, bottom line it would be stuiped for them to cater to us (and by extention vintage players as well). say they print up "Legacy the block" loaded with legacy playable s and reprints enough card diversification to make several different T1/T1.5 decks, death to the reserve list! , Say they printed it at enough volumes that everyone could get their hands on it (like a normal standard set unlimited print run for 2 years), This will likely be one of the best selling blocks of all time, TRUE! however it will deal enormous damage to their client base, once you have afew legacy decks you don't need to purchase more cards, This means WOTC has very few choices, either a) print more powerful cards so we keep buying, (not practical in a legacy setting with the power level as high as it is, or b) print brutal hate, but even if they did this, they are shooting themselves in the foot long term, or c) they ban cards from the format so they can sell new cards, this defeats the main goal of Legacy which is to allow the best of the best to thrive. This is the definition of massive short term gain for horrible long term loss.

No Cash transactions at stores, never seen ANY store allow that to fly AT ALL. only time I have seen it be "tolerated" is if its a large card trade and someone is chipping in $1 or less to even out a trade. and even then the store owner was NOT happy about it (tolerated it becuase both of the clients in quetion were very large clients and it was only $1 to even out some commons) but still not happy.

Eddit was unaware about the income tax thing THAT could explain alot about the attiude.

This is alot of guess work but not all, I DO know wizard has made surveys asking "if money wasn't a factor what formats would you play check all that apply" Standard isn't cheap long term you are correct HOWEVER alot of people have VERY poor budgeting skills (its a true failing of the public school system) They view a $300 deck as a cheap thrill Sure it may only be good for 1-2 years but thats a long time from now. but a $300 card as sticker shock. People are also pretty bad (our entire generation) at delayed gratification.

  • posted a message on [[Official]] Reserved List Discussion
I am solidly in the camp of WOTC is not removing the reserve list not because it would make them more money (it would perticuarly in the SHORT TERM) but because it would cost them catastrophic money (long term). Funny thing about Legacy/EDH they are REALLY REALLY TRULY fun formats. where the difference between a 1.5 tier deck and a tier 1 deck is VERY small, Its a format that DOES NOT CHANGE, once your in with your deck or two you don't really modify stuff very much if at all. Axing the reserve list would kill Standard, people would buy and play legacy (its more fun) then they wouldn't play standard because they have ready access to cheap legacy (the more fun format) You can't influence Legacy without printing stuiped powerful cards, to get card sales back up to levels where it was before, (say you lose 30% of your hardcore standard players just 30%) they need to sell more packs to make up for these peoples standard decks they used to be buying all the time. They can't without threatening to destroy the game. Legacy is just too big to "shake up" without printing bonkers cards, and a LARGE number of them would be needed to make up sales......

Translation Quitting isn't the problem Migration is. Legacy/Vintage players don't buy as much product as Standard players. Each standard player that "Migrates" to Legacy/vintage is lost future sales. ALot of people would play legacy/Vintage if money wasn't the issue. Their is a population of people who play standard because its cheap, not because they enjoy it as the "best of all formats" Due to the size/debth/nature of legacy once they GO legacy their spending $$ are not coming back to WOTC.

I am going to be the guy who asks this, Why does it matter what skyman he believes in? People elected him on his policy's, he has done a presentable job on many of the problems the nation was facing, perticuarly employment, Is not America a nation where church and state have separation? Has he made any blunders? Of course he has, find me a politician who has a spotless perfect record? You can not expect 100% perfection from man, not feasible.

Keep things as balanced as possible always use update prices from either star or ebay (but use the SAME source for both sides), accept a maximum of $5 (for low value cards)or 10% High value cards, loss on either side as within acceptable tolerance level. If you see someone sharking perticuarly new players help them out they are the life blood of our hobby ripping them off is a good way to slowly get magic to die.

Italofoca isn't their something to be said about the idea of waking the industry for a mistake. This shows that you need internal controls otherwise everyone suffers so watch yourself and your neibour, because you could lose your toys if anyone misbehaves? I would argue that the public are NOT gaining, unless you say want to add a massive tax (lets say the 80-90% range) on these risky gains that the tax payers (us) are footing for your risk management....

This (the bumping thing) happens quite often we are big people in a small space. Many shops do not have enough room for us to play comfortably. Bumping does happen in such cases. I have often be bumped by everyone to my left once each round at very minimum.
