The LGS's EDH night is tomorrow. The store owner and I are great friends and he trusts me enough to close up the store so we can stay there much later into the night. Not saying I have some power with store rules, but I push for 1) spirit of EDH (ex no dick scooping) and 2) use the normal rules current set forth (ex banlist, sideboards, mulligans) unless players before the game agree. There are no set play groups but some of the guys come in groups of 2-3. And each are of different power levels.

I don't want to be 'that' guy tomorrow but I really don't want to play with silver bordered cards. I already know a few guys are going to abuse it and get as much fun out of it - regardless if it sucks the fun from other players. But there are going to be those with casual/fair deck people that might onlyadd a cool card or none at all.

Trying to think of a way to approach it. Plus there might be a max of two games (6-8 people)...so it might be hard to dodge those they want to play with them. It is the only night I get to play magic during the week.

    Legit though
The kind of person who abuses the silver border stuff for degenerate combos were probably never fun to play with to begin with

This is the best thing the rules committee has ever done. I'm glad it makes EDH tourneys harder. Competitive edh is excruciating and ruins the whole concept of the format.

The one with first strike/death touch would give you life and kill the enemy before the other lifelinker gets to hit it.

    Also wrong board

I just don't see much point in going with Akiri + Tana. They don't really synergize well and if you are going to go partners why not go four color combo instead?

    Tana:
Tymna lets you generate card advantage with go wide strategy and Ravos, Soultender lets you punch harder with go wide.

    Akiri:
I think Silas Renn is the best partner for Akiri. Dimir fixes a lot of problems boros has and red gives access to cool artifact matters type cards like Scrap Mastery.

Honestly I find 4-color to be pretty overwhelming in terms of options and both of those combos are pretty overdone afaik
Tana and Akiri do have some synergy, you just have to find and dig for it, which is what EDH is totes all about!

Playing against a Nekusar deck with Sydri, Galvanic Genius 1v1. I'm going to die on my draw step, because Nekusar.

On my upkeep I tap all my mana into Whir of Invention to see if I could find an answer to save me.
I end up spitting out a Scourglass I totally forgot I had, and lo and behold, it's my upkeep! Probably the only time either Scourglass or Whir were ever useful.
I blow up the board and proceed to stabilize and win. Go me.

So everyone has a Mayael the Anima deck, and Uril, the Miststalker is for knuckledraggers who can't play Bruna, and Marath, Will of the Wild is indeed awesome, but is he really the only choice for this color combo if you want to play something interesting?

Let us stop to consider Akiri, Line-Slinger and Tana, the Bloodsower.
Two cheap and awesome Voltron commanders. Akiri goes tall while Tana goes wide.
And yet over on EDHRec, they're near the very bottom of Naya commanders when it comes to # of deck lists.

Let's brainstorm cards that mutually benefit both Commanders, like Sigil of Valor and Leonin Sun Standard!

Yeah it's a flavor fail, will perform worse than Zurgo Helmsmasher 90% of the time and the art is more crappy early-00's looking CGI.
Hell the only vampire general that looks like a vampire is Edgar, the other two could say Human Knight and Human Rogue in the typelines and I wouldn't question it.

    "CGI"

KTK had one Vampire in the whole block. Ravnica now has conventional Vampires aligned chiefly with Orzhov as well as the psychic Vampires of Dimir. So why did Tarkir get attention over Ravnica?

Shoot, Alara qualifies more for Vampire material thanks to Grixis Vampires like Vein Drinker and Blood Tyrant, though a full-on Grixis Vampire is obviously out of the question for a Mardu Vampire deck. But Kheru Bloodsucker is aligned with BGU Sultai and by extension UB Silumgar, so a Vampire from Alara shouldn't be that big a stretch.

They could use it as a way to foreshadow the return of the Clans/Khans. A vampire old enough to remember a time before "The Khan Fall." starts setting things into motion that begin a rebellion against the Dragonlords.

Or they only had 20 minutes to podcast and they chose the most interesting examples of Vampires that had active work put into their designs, and not the fairly generic and uninteresting ones from Ravnica/Alara.

Considering there is -one- vampire that we have seen on Tarkir I don't say we can say they chose "The most interesting examples." Now I am all about learning more about why there is one odd vampire on Tarkir but Szadek in the very least is more interesting as the Founder of one of the Ten Guilds, I only bring up the possibility of seeing some lore on Tarkir because they have said that one of them major complaints about the Tarkir block is that it ended on "Dragons win forever." and this would be a really good place to put in a story line hook for a future set to revisit that.

They talked about it because its art design is bizarre and they actively put effort into the worldbuilding of Tarkir vampires, even though only one appeared on a card. It was a fascinating example of how the species can drastically differ in appearance and culture. Christ.

i just want to remind everyone that this is one of the worst cards ever made and looking at it makes me upset

if a WotC person is reading this thread please fix this when the game inevitably returns to Theros

there is no excuse for this card ever seeing print
who the hell looked at this and said "yeah, seems legit"

Takes 3 turns to and 6 mana to say "your opponent draws two cards" while also wasting the appearance of one of the most iconic pieces of Greek mythology

    Jesus christ smh

How is an instant named "Refuse" that targets a spell on the stack not a counterspell?

Honestly the spell should have been called "F*** Off."

But why is everyone ITT mentioned X-cost spells? Isn't an X-cost spell's CMC usually like 1 or 2 because the X doesn't count?

To be fair, when this Gideon was designed, BfZ was meant to be out of standard, but they changed the rotation schedule while he was already set to print
