PTQ semi finalist list. SUFFOCATION side!? Can someone explain because I am beyond lost on that one.
Edit: mistranslation from French of "choke". Sideboard makes much more sense now, my bad haha. They're not splashing blue with heirarches to cast a sub par blue hate instant hahahaha.
I'm pretty sure that flagstones of trokair is not what you wanna be doing in a leonin arbiter deck. I suggest Plains. And I had pretty bad experiences with main decks swords. They belong in the SB imo.
I agree with Havrekjex. Not running the Blade Splicer/Flickerwisp/Restoration Angel package is probably wrong. I suggest 4 of each.
Yes, i switch Stony Silence and Aether Vial against G/R Tron. I'm still trying to figure out what's the best strategy against Mono U Tron.
I don't think we need Stony Silence against to Pod decks. We board in more removal and more search hate to make their Birthing Pod even less effective. Sometimes they even board out all their Birthing Pods and Chord of Calling because they are that weak in this MU.
I understand that running Kataki, War's Wage is more intuitive, given the fact that he's a hatebear. But he's just a lot weaker than Stony Silence. Kataki gets killed a lot easier and often you will encounter a boardstate where he doesn't do a lot. Stony Silence is a game winning play in the vast majority of situations against affinity and it's a lot harder for them to kill it. At first I didn't want to have Stony Silence in my 75 because I thought our decks relies too heavy on Aether Vial. While this is true sometimes, it certainly isn't against affinity. After getting experienced in the MU I found myself boarding it out every match.
First GW list is TERRIBLE. No gaddock teeg side? NO GAVONY TOWNSHIP? It tries to pull every cute trick in the book. Realistically you're not gonna be able to consistently cast thragtusk, and he's running THREE. Bleh I just hate it. Also stop trying to make spirit of the labyrinth happen. it just won't. Card draw simply ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH IN MODERN TO BE A SIDE CHOICE, LET ALONE MAIN. the only deck i'd want this against AT ALL would be storm, and if it's storm why not play an actual hoser?
I vomit a little each time I see a list running epochrasite. It's exactly the kinda cute trick we don't wanna do. I would pretty much rather this be an arb or tidehollow, scooze in GW's case. It has no immediate value. We want creatures flicker for value, not flicker TO BE DECENT.
ANYWAY moving past my bile and hate, my match against Dr.Nutzlos was solid, He just ended up going over my head with multiple restos and big scoozes. Mana denial was failing due to heirarchs, and I just couldn't seem to draw any of my finishers. The second game was pretty nice though, mana denial was going well for a long time, but he seemed to be packing a fist full of removal so every time I tried to stick a threat it just got killed. One thing I found very nice in the mirror was EE. It's a good card to dig you out of a hole, catching peoples golems and unflipped akroma in one go, and can blow up their vials and heirarches in a pinch. Since vial is my only 1 cmc, I tend to not care as much. All in all, the fact is that GW just goes bigger, and without the right hand, I just wasn't gonna get there. I feel I needed my tidehollows I never got more, and that messenger would have been nice.
Looking forward, I think I need to start examining the number of threats I am running. I've been a big proponent of the 4 flickerwisp, 1 resto plan, but maybe it's time I rework my deck to run the full 4 flicker 4 resto.
GG Sheepz. We played 2 very close and interesting games.
About the Restoration Angel: A lot of people seem to be afraid of crossing the CMC 3 mark and go up to 4. But I've been playing 4 Restos since I started playing the deck and haven't looked back once. I admit, it can be tough sometimes to get to 4 mana or tick the vial up to 4. But once you get to that point, playing a Restoration Angel is just the most powerful thing this deck can do while still being consistent!
I am struggling a lot against mono green devotion deck :/ Have you guys tried? They just have bigger creatures sooner than us :/
Sheepz is absolutely right. They are very inconsistent and vulnerable to Land Destruction. Usually the only bigger creature they are running is Primeval Titan. Try to hold your Path to Exile for that.
Sure, if they are able to play a turn 2 Garruk Wildspeaker or a turn 3 Primeval Titan it looks like an impossible MU. But if both players have a reasonable draw, we can usually prevent him from going nuts. Overall i would say it's a favorable MU.

Is it the Genesis Wave/Wistful Selkie/Burning Tree Emissary/Kalonian Behemoth thing? Ghostly Prison makes fun of that matchup. Make sure you've got enough Tectonic Edges, since removing Nykthos is key, and you need loads of fliers because you're probably not getting through on the ground. I like to run about 12-13 fliers, and that pays off in this matchup. If you're GW, Gaddock Teeg stops Genesis Wave and Garruk, and they've probably got no way to deal with him.
Ghostly Prison? Are you trolling? If they get a reasonable draw they produce insane amounts of mana. I agree that it's very important to kill the Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and keep them on low mana. If you're able to do that, you easily win without the Ghostly Prison. But if you're not able to execute the Mana-Denial plan Ghostly Prison doesn't do anything. I must be missing something so could please explain how Ghostly Prison helps us in this MU?
What is better to have 4 snapcasters or 4 mutavaults? I am going to trade the snapcasters for mutavaults because they are hard to find. None likes giving them up but people give up snapcasters easily. Any thoughts or opinions
Keep the Snapcaster Mages for sure! Mutavault's price will drop a lot when M14 rotates out of standard in a few months.
With the fact that the Modern Event deck is going to be BW tokens, I would assume that we'll be seeing a bit more of that match up. I'm running a mono-w version of D&T. Are there sideboard cards you have to have to beat that deck, or are we already equipped for it?
Any thoughts on slaughter pact side for the WB version? Could be very good against twin.
Isn't Dismember just better most of the time? Against Twin you can just leave up a colorless mana to not represent Path to Exile and then blow them out with the Dismember. Against most other decks a removal that can only be played after turn 3 and time walks you the turn after you play it, is just not playable. And not being able to kill a Dark Confidant can just cost you the game.
Hmm I see. Why don't I see Runed Halo in that much sideboards? How many would you run on average. I run 2 spellkites main, 1 in sideboard against a heavy combo and control Meta where I play.
You don't see Runed Halo in that much sideboards because it's a very bad card and doesn't solve any of D+T's problems. I suggest playing exactly 0 copies of that card. Running 2 Spellskites and 1 additional in the board is more than enough to cover your bogle matchup (which isn't that bad in the first place).
Well my plan against bogles is to just not play against it. I don't think it's worth the SB-slots.
Heh.
Seems to me any good anti-aggro, anti-enchantment cards in your deck would be just as applicable here.
Sure, but I'm not running any anti-aggro or anti-enchantments cards. And I never felt the need for cards like that...
Engineered explosives is your best friend
I know it's a game-winning card in some matchups. But as i said, the deck doesn't need it. If you wanna do well at big tournaments, you can't just waste SB-slots with unnecessary cards.
It's so generalized and solid when you're 3cmc focused why is it bad?
I never said it's bad. On the contrary! I said it can be a game-winning card in the right matchup. But i don't think it deserves the SB-slot because i'm focusing on the more important matchups.

Suffocation is french for choke.
She's worth it though. It's such a powerful card in Modern.

Akroma, Angel of Fury is a big Player in this matchup.
