Molten Rains is worthless against Twin in my opinion. I do feel that Burn is very viable in this meta, but there are way too many fetches. Splinter Twin is definitely back, Abzan is very strong, Amulet Bloom has a chance (But like all combos, Bloom can be very fragile). If Lee hadn't sided in Molten Rain, I wonder how the Pro-Tour would've played out if he drew a Boros Charm instead of Molten Rain. But it's all what-if situations here.
Still rooting for burn. That Amulet Bloom looks very efficient as a combo deck, and may be a hard game against Abzan, but only the luck of the draw will decide I guess.
Hey guys! Looking at getting into the modern format and I am going to start to slowly collect cards in order to play in Modern!
Favorite Type of Deck: Aggro/Midrange
Favorite Colors: No preference
Budget: Refuse to pay for individual cards that are valued $60+
Competitive Level: PTQ
Staples Owned: A good portion of Shocklands, no complete playsets though. 4 red fetchlands (KTK), 1 Polluted Delta, and 2 Windswept Heath, 4 Thoughtseize, 4 Hero's Downfall, 2 Mutavaults, 1 Cavern of Souls.
Thanks for all help!
I've found that 2 Satyr Hoplite and 2 Firedrinker Satyr are the best combinations. Instead of having 4 of one or the other, the split allows for faster damage to get pushed through (can mini pump Firedrinker or permanently pump Hoplite, great to have both). Test this combo out at FNM, as it worked great for me.
What are the opinions on War-Name Aspirant? Seems like a good sideboard card or maybe even mainboard. A 3/2 for 2 CMC and can't be blocked by creatures with power 1 or less (Sylvan Caryatid and other mana dorks). What do you guys think?
Unhinged lands that are foil are extremely special. I do have to admit that full art lands will never loose their value. If they released full art lands in Khans of Tarkir, Unhinged will not even suffer a scratch in value. Everything else that Keep traded can rise in value too and probably will as well (especially the shocks), but at least Keep gets to be that guy with the pimped out foil full art lands.
I do realize that everyone likes to pimp out their EDH deck and what not, but I think that the cards you traded away had more functional value. While he lost a couple of Foil lands, he now has a giant pile of amazing cards that could create endless possibilities in the other formats. Each to their own in terms of value though. As long as you like what you got on your end of the trade, that's what counts.
So I pulled a foil Garruk Apex Predator at the M15 pre-release and I set up a trade with a guy and we meet on Thursday. He's offering me 3 Thoughtseize, 3 Overgrown Tomb, 3 Lifebane Zombie, 1 Hero's Downfall, 1 Erebos, God of the Dead, 1 Devour Flesh (I need Devour Flesh and Lifebane Zombie for a Mono-Black Devotion build, even though their value isn't much). Should I do the trade? I'm worried of Garruk skyrocketing in Standard and me loosing out on potential profit, like what happened with Courser of Kruphix that went from $5 to $20.
Wait, Blinding Light is in the M15 Coreset? I can't find it. But other than that, the list looks great, the Boros Charm is great for when you have opponents using control, but what about Detention Sphere and other things that U/W have?
Patrick Chapin's deck still works quite effectively in the Standard Format. Very controlling, but also lets the player play aggressively, making opponents discard, kill their creatures, or have massive creatures on the board with Elspeth cranking out tokens.
Storm Crow is the almighty god of blue creatures. Black's creature go is Chimney Imp, and these are the most powerful cards in the game. Only Charging Badger could be the runner up!
I really like Patrick Chapin's Junk Midrange deck he made for Journey into Nyx Pro tour. I've studied how to play it and how it works so I don't waste the deck, but before I spend $600 to get the cards, are there any other ways to make Patrick Chapin's Deck more Standard suitable. I know he only could do the Theros Block, so that's why I am asking.
Edit: Misspelled "Lee" by accident.
