If you have the cash, the best bet to go towards making a deck is buying a playset of Theros or M15 from an online vendor. Don't spend money buying packs or boxes, or etc unless you just like opening packs. Getting playsets or singles are the way to go.
If you're on a budget, drafting is a nice way to build up a collection over time.
Recently signed up with them a week ago, and have received a handful of cards without any issues. It's pretty useful if you're looking for the odd/janky rare, or playsets of commons and uncommons. ALso you can finally do something with your unplayables that collect dust. They also give you a a number of points when you sign up for free, so if you have a vast collection you probably don't need to pour any more money into it (aside from postage.)
With the recent news that Khans will be a wedge set, do you guys mono color decks being weakened or overpowered by multicolored decks when the set rotates?
But if you still want to use it for standard, I'd probably go with a Mono-red/Sligh/RDW build. $50 would probably be enough to get you a complete deck. And it seems that RDW has been a staple recently. Take it with a grain of salt as I am biased, running my own mono-red.
Let me know what you guys think, and possibly any sideboard suggestions? I'm leaning towards more burn, but have thought about Guttersnipe or Young Pyromancer
It's 1 card though. The thing about bombs is you usually have to wait 5-7 turns before you can cast them. Until then, your commons and uncommons will play a huge role in whether you're ahead or behind when you cast your bomb.
It was my first ever prerelease, so I was nervous. Had a bunch of fun and went 2-2 with a G/U. Notable cards were two Phytotitan and a Soul of Zendikar Basically stalling with bounce and a couple of walls until several of my green fatties come out.
Dropped the first two matches, but won my next two. No prizes but alot of fun was had, and met some cool people.
Went with green, so I played the Phytotitian and I just so happened to pull out another one in the rest of my pool.
It actually was pretty solid when I got it out, giving me virtual card advantage and stalling boards. It's pretty good in both aggressive and defensive/control decks.
I've looked around a bit but couldn't find a straight answer for this.
I know that in a tournament during a game, I'm allowed to take notes while playing. I have a question about referencing those notes in later games of a match.
For example, I take notes during game 1 of a match. After game 1 is over can I then refer to those notes again before and during game 2?
Hey ya'll, just wanted to get your experiences or opinion on this.
Now I'm somewhat noob that plays both MTGO and paper Magic. However it's pretty super casual with my friends irl, while I've been playing more of the online daily events. Obviously as you all know, the quality of play/competition is quite different. I've gotten the hang of limited events online(and have won several.) Recently a LGS has opened up near me(did not have any lgs to go to before), and I've preregistered for the M15 prerelease.
I know it's different depending on location, but do you find the online limited events to be more/less/same compared to paper in terms of quality of play/players?
I know it's all about having fun, but just wanted to get an idea.
For example if I cast Phyrexian Revoker, can I name Sylvan Caryatid?

I've heard that it's better to draw due to having that extra card advantage, but I just can't seem to kick the habit of playing first.
What are your thoughts?
